Twenty-four Hour Dial for Dining Program at the IWK Health Centre

Dial for Dining is the popular and extremely effective 24-hour food delivery program at the IWK. This approach was implemented to replace the assembly-line method used in many hospitals. Patients, visitors and staff can place an order and have food delivered to them within the hospital anytime, day or night - just like room service.
Reduced costs and staff satisfaction have been significant since the program was launched but the real proof of Dial for Dining's success has been the clean plates. Food wastage dropped from 40-50% to under 5% as soon as the switch was made.
On June 8, 2010 the IWK Health Centre's Food Services team were presented with a 3M Health Care Quality Team Award, in recognition of the successful Dial for Dining program.
