My Kia fobs were hermetically sealed with superglue from the factory. 5 HOURS!!!! to change my key fob shells. BUT, your video is priceless. Once you get the circuit board out of your old key fob, this operation takes minutes to complete. Also, your old key (OF COURSE)!, spring and chrome button should be used as long as they are not damaged. The new shells I ordered from Amazon came with springs that are longer than the original and the chrome button is too short to be functional. Thanks for the great video.

Phillips Vision yes the original circuit board is in there
DJ WOW I would take it all apart and reassemble just in case something got out of place
Phillips Vision ok will do
nice video, after swapping my key, it wont open the car.
Make sure all the internal components (chip) were transferred properly.
So, u didn't need to program or pay a dealership to program?
A G no, because I just replaced the case, not the chip
@@PhillipsVision thanks for replying.
Should I order an OEM remote? Or does that not matter with a "case only"?
A G not if you have the internal chip from the original. If you have the chip, just move it to the new shell. If you don’t have it you’ll need the entire factory device.
Any tips for opening new case? Cant get it open
no nopeno9 sometimes they are tight. Use a small flathead screwdriver or hard guitar pick and gently pry it open, should un-clip
I have a problem, I have changed the case and the key works, open and clode doors but the engine won't start.
Did you move all the components (chip) from the original to the new? The chips are programmed to your sentry key immobilizer and ECU. If they don’t all match your car will not start.
@@PhillipsVision yes I put circuit board to the new plastic case. is there anything I can do now?
@@daniele-nocentini sounds like a computer issue with communication between the chip and ECU. There are locksmiths that can create a new chipped key to match the ECU
Would have liked to have seen him go immediately out to the car and start it.
I’ve been using this key to start/drive the car for the past couple years with no problem. If you replace the chip (intact) from one case to another you’ll have no problem. The plastic case means nothing, it’s all the chip to communicate with the ECU to start the car, and of course the metal key to turn the ignition cylinder.
@@PhillipsVision I transferred everything over with almost surgical precision. I went to my vehicle and it now locks/unlocks (didn't before because of old battery), but it won't completely turn over? The dashboards lights up like it's Christmas, and I'm getting a P0441 code? A locksmith is quoting a few hundred dollars to help me out. :( I took the fob apart and reassembled it again (just in case) and got the same result. It's a puzzler.
@@msdee7444 this code pertains to the EVAP purge flow; it has nothing to do with your key’s chip. Not sure why it’s not working. If your chip was transferred without problems it should work fine
It flips open but it does not lock down in place
Desmond Oneal sometimes the weak clips will not hold if the key tension spring is too tight. Try releasing some of the tension by unwinding it one turn, that might help.
PEOPLE!!! When you change your key fob make sure you include your transponder in the new fob it’s a little black thing for people that don’t know. or else your car will not start !
SGPGHOST the transponder is mounted to the original chip.
Phillips Vision yeah but sometimes the transponder isn’t and it’s just in the casing gotta make sure if you come across it to put it in the new fob
What year and model is this key for ?
Alanna H 2013 Kia Rio, but this process is for most of this key type
Okay, but we’ve literally spent TWO days trying to get mine apart and cannot get it to open! 😭
It might be glued and may require using a blade to slight break the seal
Great tutorial, except that it gave me a false sense of security.... Nothing is mentioned about the security transmitter chip so after switching out the motherboard and switching the key, I tested the door locking mechanism and was all set!! Or so I thought.... the next morning the car was disabled and wouldn't start for me.. upon towing to the shop and them running a diagnostic a P 1693 immobilizer error came up. I found the old key chassis and sure enough the transponder chip was in the framing across from the board. Something for others to watch out for..... 👎
No need to reprogram it?
No, not if you move the original chip to the new case
Where do I get the fob housing?
Notorius Vg I got mine on eBay
Where is the chip dude?
I tried this but now that key won’t start the car
max beard changing the case has nothing to do with starting the car. All you’re replacing is the plastic housing.
Actually it does. After I changed the shell with help of this video my car did not start as well. I tried with original old key and it started the car. Immobilizer is stopping it from starting. Tried to reassemble the old key, did not work
Once the key fob was replaced, does the key fob need to be programmed, I replaced the new housing but the car could not start, just engine running.
If you moved everything from the original case to the new, then no it does not need reprogramming. It should work fine. If you replaced with a new chip, then yes it will need reprogramming
