    Important to make note that there is a small plastic bit from the old fob, as it is the transducer, and it needs to go along with the board or the car won't start. Its deceiving cause it falls out and only looks like a broken piece of plastic. I threw mine out and had to sort through the trash to get it!!

    You didn't show the most difficult and important part. Taking out the security chip that is glued in the top corner. You didn't even mention it, given that it's glued it requires some effort and sometimes heat to get it out.
    Your car will not start without this chip.

    • @PhillipsVision
      @PhillipsVision  4 года назад

      mmdias87 the chip was not glued in mine, and is not always glued. Normally these are placed inside the frame and held in by the corner supports. You simply lift it out and simply place the new one inside the framing. Nothing more than a 2 second process. Not sure where you’re encountering this as the most difficult part.

    My Kia fobs were hermetically sealed with superglue from the factory. 5 HOURS!!!! to change my key fob shells. BUT, your video is priceless. Once you get the circuit board out of your old key fob, this operation takes minutes to complete. I had every slot head screwdriver out, 2 pair of pliers, 2 box cutters trying to pry open the old fobs. If you have as much difficulty as I did, just make sure you do not damage the circuit board. Also, your old key (OF COURSE)!, spring and chrome button should be used as long as they are not damaged. The new shells I ordered from Amazon came with springs that are longer than the original and the chrome button is too short to be functional. Thanks for the great video.

    • @amyc664
      @amyc664 Год назад

      I am finding the same issue I think. Trying to get the old fob open. It is NOT as easy as it is here in the vid. And mine doesn't appear to be a Kia sticker on the back of the old one. I think it's metal and part of the shell itself. Not sure if there is a screw under that. But I'm not having luck getting that off either.

  • @Pontiacman1964
    @Pontiacman1964 3 года назад +3

    Thanks for posting. However, trying to pry my old one apart didn’t work. I had to apply a lot of pressure and it still wouldn’t come apart.
    So I went to plan B. I pried the rubber button assembly off the new one; removed the busted up, cracked buttons from the old one, and simply switched. It works fine.
    I’ll buy another housing and do the same for my second key fob. I’m paying a total of $16 for the rubber buttons but that’s better than $500+ for two new key fobs.

    • @davidchapa8957

      I had trouble prying the old fob as well (starting around 2:00), I wish the guy would have explained that more in depth, but I was able to salvage the board and key with no damage, I bought a 3rd party shell for my Kia on Amazon for $6 and everything transferred over no issues.

    Great vid, there is one item I would add to it tho.
    If you look at 3:25 into the video, on the back panel of the remote ( the panel with the battery hole, at the top of it opposite the spring and pin ) you will see a small cavity. ON SOME MODELS, in that cavity, there will be a small white panel. This model doesnt have it. Under that panel is a ferro rod or sometimes a induction ID chip. Thats part of the security system on some models and that panel and ferro rod or chip must also move over or your car will not start. All other functions of the fob will still operate without it.
    i completed the assembly without moving this and no start ( "key error" if you have a code reader plugged in ), went back and grabbed that from the old fob, installed and bingo, first try ( no error on code reader ).
    Hope that helps others.
