Dr. Sowell wouldn't be happy being called conservative. He wasn't a Marxist because he thought the system in it's current state was optimal. It's worse than calling Joe Rogan a conservative because he hunts. Because Sowell was offered the power of presidential appointments by conservatives and turned them down. Not to mention he's stated he doesn't like being defined by others. The enemy of my enemy is not my clone.

It always interesting to see comments that say Sowell is full of half truths and lies. That he skews data. Yet those commentators rarely show where this occurs. When they do, it is usually a cherry picked, out of context, partial to a concept made by Sowell. They will take a shortened edited statement and argue it in bad faith. They won't take into account the before and after said cherry picked partial. They won't watch his long form discussions. They do not read his books. They never touch his sourced references in any if his writings. Just ad hominem attacks and inaccurate arguments against out of context partial sections of points.

They all had good jobs and most were in the military or veterans or in the aerospace industry. I could see no difference in culture it quality of parenting. My closest friends dad was a Marine Master Sargent and black. My dad was an immigrant from Spain in 1929, a veteran of WW2 and a quality control accountant at Lockheed. His best friend in 1940 was a Nesai Japanese kid who was imprisoned on the orders of FDR after Pearl Harbor 1941 with his entire family and yet he joined the US Army to fight in Europe. Most of our neighbors were second generation immigrants and worked hard to raise their kids right. They all went to church on Sunday and our neighborhoods were safe and I hardly saw a police car until I started driving like a damned fool at 16.

So glad to see you are learning truths that aren't taught in school. I'm a history teacher and am fascinated by Thomas Sowell. Booker T. Washington is another person you'd be interested in looking into if you haven't already. He was born into slavery, yet after he was freed, he started the Tuskegee Institute where blacks were taught trades. As a result, they could find jobs and/or start their own businesses. Washington is often contrasted with W.E.B. DuBois, a socialist, who arose in the Progressive Era. DuBois' ideas closely match today's mainstream narrative as he gained a lot of power by convincing people that they were owed something. This was in major contrast to Booker T. Washington's philosophy of personal success and good character. I'd recommend looking into both men. It is very eye-opening. Truth is best path to freedom! Truth is also often simple.

What I have always admired about Thomas Sowell, and I have read many of his books, is that he scrubs the data before he analyzes it. What I mean by that us he always compares apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Many, if not most, sociological studies are done with an agenda in mind and its goal is to prove said pre-set agenda. Sowell has never done that, he is a man of great integrity, great intelligence and one of the great minds of the past 60 years. It is criminal that this man is not a household name.

He studied under Milton Friedman who was a champion of free market economies.
He went to go work for the government (like a good Marxist will do) believing the government is there to help. But he quickly learned the ‘help’ being given isn’t really help at all. This woke him up. He saw government programs don’t work. He sought the work because he wanted to help people, poor people. He real eyezed that government programs keep people down.

I have this book “Economic Facts and Fallacies,” highly recommended. As for the differences between white and black income, those differences vanish when you control for things like IQ, educational background and job experience. In other words, smart and educated black people make no less money than their white counterparts. This suggests that discrimination is not the source of the disparity in overall income. Sowell theorizes that Black American culture itself-“black redneck” as he terms it-is mostly responsible for that overall disparity. The interesting thing is that this “redneck” culture was inherited from poor British whites who became slave owners in the American South. Fascinating theory, he goes into more detail in the book “Black Rednecks & White Liberals.” Thanks for the amazing content!

I grew up in the LA Riots 95. $135 million were given to impoverished parts of the city. 30 yrs later. South Central has very few black owned businesses, prosperity, and upstanding citizens who don't trash the neighborhood. Similar situation with homeless. LA continues to devolve no matter how much $ we spent on it.

There really is nothing positive that can be gained by wallowing in the pain and shame of the past. Especially when it is something you never experienced personally. It tends to give people an attitude, and it is the attitude that holds them back. Not history or their skin color. Unfortunately, they won't believe that, and invariably, will claim discrimination or racism as the root cause.

He is one of the most brilliant thinkers I know of, but until very recently his exposure has been to an entirely different kind of audience. The "dialogue" you hold between his videos and your thoughts is very effective. It makes us all think again about our own preconceived notions. BTW, I hear you comment that you're not sure "what side" he is on. I think he is on the side of TRUTH, neither Demo or Rep, just factual truth. Which as someone who is black this is strange to me because it's only majority white countries that are being asked to "diversify" otherwise it's racism if they don't. The very words "slave" and "slavery" get their etymological origin from the capture and sale of Slavic people. This was so prevalent that their ethnic name became common to the practice and nature of owned humans. So many Slavs were sold at the markets they became known as Slav Markets and people sold in those markets known as Slavs, like the markets. Soon all sold there took on that name. The people sold there were called slaves as a generic term despite their place of origin or ethnicity.
Make no mistake about it...Slavs are Caucasian. They were victimized in such great numbers simply because they had no organized government and were easily accessible to raiders from both Persia and Western and Southern Europe.

Racism is certainly learned, through observation and experience growing up. To eliminate it means to begin treating everyone as equal. Set the example for younger generations to observe and experience. Morgan Freeman once said the best way to end 'racism' is to "stop talking about it". If you are going to dislike someone, even as far as to have animosity toward that person, make sure it is because they are of poor character with irredeemable qualities, not because their skin isn't like yours. I recently heard it said that you should get to know a person's name before you pass judgement on them. We all have struggles to overcome. Finding a way to help each other will not only make us stronger as people regardless of ethnicity or appearance.

I have come to look at the American version of racism as a result of slavery not the cause, we are the only country where the slave owners were required to morally justify the institution.
