  • After being restored in 2009, Santa Fe 3415 would run on the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad for the next 13 years. At the end of the 2022 operating season, she would go down for the 1472-day inspection with the last operating day being October 2nd, 2022. I was fortunate enough to document her 1 day prior, on October 1st.

    This thing just looks rough, I know that most steam locomotives get dirty but this thing looks so bad it could pass off as being an engine that sat in a park for 20 years, I can’t wait to see how it looks once it comes back into service, I love the Santa Fe and this engine is just amazing

      I like it cause it looks real! Personally I like a colorful paint job to be nice and clean but if it's a utilitarian one like here, it looks better with an "in service" type look

    This thing is in HORRIFIC condition. I've even seen a video of it with a clearly leaking staybolt on the firebox. Like others have said, I am shocked this engine hasn't blown up and killed. It literally looks like a rusty park display had a fire lit and was sent on its way. And of course that wheelslip at the mere suggestion of it moving is just.... yikes. I hope the people in charge of this thing can somehow be restricted from touching it again.

    This engine was not well taken care of when it was restored in 2009. Now its in dire need of new rod bearings and axle bearings. Sad to see this poor engine in this shape now its worn out to the point where it needs a full rebuilt etc. I seen the this engine being restored in 2009 on tv.. Now i see it to day on RUclips. Its sad really. knowing a steam engine built in 1919. I looked for some about this engine. This engine should not be ran its boiler is in dire need of a full rebuild.(Edit at 1:31 to 1:32 That much play in the coupling rod on the number two driver that tells me that the bearings are warn out..)

  • @TrainTrackTrav
    @TrainTrackTrav Год назад +4

    While it's so great to hear that she got an extension on her run time, I must say that 3415 really doesn't look too good. I'm not an expert on the intricacies of how a steam loco's power reverse should work, but I'm guessing it shouldn't move the center driver when the direction is changed. That, along with the rust and visible wear is kinda sad to see. I'm sure it's all superficial but I do hope her upcoming overhaul gets her looking a little better.

    While it is a bit sad 3415 is out of service now I hope this next rebuild will be done properly compared to how wasatch did it. I mean, it amazes me it didn’t suffer a catastrophe incident like cp 1278 did in 1995 during the last 14 years it ran. I just hope they take their time on this rebuild as from what they said in their Facebook they want to have the engine back within the next 2 years, which imo I doubt they’ll be able to do with how bad the engine is in its mechanical shape.
