Great review as usual, just loaded the Multi lua file into my X10S Express it was effortless, waiting for my iRangeX IRX4 Plus to arrive so i can test it out, Thanks again for the time and effort you put in this hobby. Cheers Adriano
If anyone is having issues getting this to work and could not see the different modules, i found the issue. Some radios (mine is specifically an x20s) came with the multi protocol option already available when i bought it. However, after updating the firmware the multi option has disappeared from the module menu and now when trying to put the lua scripts back on to use the multi module again or other module scrips, they are still not showing up. The fix is, in the scripts folder, there is a folder already in there called "modules". This is the old multi lua script and seems to be causing a conflict and is overriding everything else preventing other lua scripts from working properly. If you delete this folder from the scripts folder, leave in all your other lua script folders, restart the radio, you will now be able to see module options. The general menu is also different than what is shown in the video (im running firmware 1.4.8) and i found i did not need to change anything as the options described in the general menu are no longer relevant for fw 1.4.8 it seems. i was tearing my hair out trying to get this to work and have found zero info anywhere else. Hope this helps someone. it should just simply work with out doing anything special.
thank you i updated my x20 and i lost functionality of my multiprotocol external module followed your directions and it fixed it now i can fly all my bnf spectrum stuff again thank you so much

Not currently. The Yaapu LUA with the AHI is for ArduPilot. I do know that FrSKY are trying to get an INAV LUA developer involved, to get the INAV LUA working on ETHOS.
To be honest, I have no clue about Spektrum receivers. The list of supported protocols are at www.multi-module.org/basics/supported-protocols If they’re DSM2 or DSMX receivers, they should be fine.
are all these irx4 lite modules on ebay the same or is there a good one to buy? can we control spektrum DSMX with multiprotocol now? when you install this module does that switch the TX to always use it even for frsky 2.4 receivers or can you take it off and go with the oem config?
Being eBay, who knows. iRangeX are a company. But I don’t know if their stuff gets cloned. DSMX is in the list of supported protocols. But I don’t have a module or Spektrum receiver to test. www.multi-module.org/basics/supported-protocols No, you set the RF on the model to use the external module. Then set up the actual protocol you want to use. For FrSKY 2.4, use the internal module. The exception being if you want to use D8, which isn’t supported by the internal ISRM module.

Thanks for putting out these helpful videos. I ran into an issue when copying the ELRS script into my X20 Pro, I copied it into the scripts fold within a subfolder. The ELRS header didn't appear in the RF "type" pulldown but was found in the protocol type pulldown under the "twin lite pro" header. I wasn't sure if it was going to work with this RF type header so I remained the main.lua file to include ELRS and pasted it outside of the ELRS folder but still in the scripts folder. My reasoning behind renaming the file was that the multi Lua script main.lua was already present in the scripts folder and I didn't want to replace it with the ELRS main.lua script. I powered off and powered back on the Tx and low and behold the script was in the RF type pulldown like you had shown in this video. No, I get everything populated, and can change settings. One thing that was left as a comment. Check your scripts folder on the SD card. If there’s a folder in there called modules. Delete it. This is older LUA scripts, and they conflict with the newer scripts. So that may be causing your problem.

Hey D! I can not for the life of me get this to work. I'm running an X20S, latest FW, followed these steps as you did them and ELRS will not show up in the type/protocols. Actually when I go into general settings to see if LUA is run from SD or Radio, I can't even find that screen. I have placed the file into both and still nothing. I'm dying to use this system but going thru hell trying to figure it out. Help please!?!?!?
On the X20/X20S/X20HD you don't get the option for storing on the radio or SD card. That is only for transmitters with NAND storage.. On the X20's SD card you should have the folder /scripts/elrs/ and in the elrs folder have a file called main.lua. That contains the actual script. If you open that file up in notepad and the first lines don't read: -- Express LRS Module local translations = {en="ELRS Configuration"} the contents of the file is incorrect.
Hey Darin can you show me how to get voices back on my x18se,I think I changed the name of the folder in the radio from en to something would that have wiped them, because they still show up in the radio under file manager but I can't get them to work in 1.5
Hello, thank you very much for this video! I would like to install the Multi Scripts into my radio. I tried to follow your video but at the end when I look into "RF System" > "Type" the multi is still not appearing. Is it possible that it does NOT work because I am trying with a iRX4 lite external module ? Thank you for your answer !
You will need to check in System > General and see if it is expecting scripts on the radio or the SD card. Then you would need to create the scripts folder on that drive. Don’t forget to restart the radio after copying the script over.
Not currently. The LUA Script would need to be rewritten for ETHOS. Unfortunately the transmitter firmware developers haven’t standardised the LUA commands.
Sorry, I don't have a multiprotocol module or Spektrum SAFE receiver. You should just need to assign a switch to the correct channel to change your modes. You would set that up in the ETHOS mixer with a free mix. Then output that to the channel that the SAFE receiver is expecting the mode switch to be on. I guess that information should be in a Spektrum manual for that receiver.
Hi, Nice video. Could you help me please? I have a Problem I can't understand! @MrD Thank you, for future upgrades would you use Edgetx or Ethos? I do use arduplane and a little INAV. Just trying to find the best radio to use Telemetry widgets.
This is something that I am thinking about for the future. At some point I will need to update my Horus X10S Express. It’s currently still on OpenTX. But, development for that is virtually nonexistent. At this point in time, I would go with ETHOS. I really don’t like EdgeTX in its current state. There are also things that are in ETHOS but I noticeably miss in OpenTX/EdgeTX. The Ardu LUA script from Yaapu works fine on ETHOS. I’m hoping that the INAV LUA will get a port at some point in the future.

hi ,your site is amazing , still i'm no computer wizzard , i've the ethos - twin lite S , but i want to install some lua scrips , you make it easy as it shown ,is there a another way ? thx
Thanks Andre. Unfortunately not. This is the only way to install these LUA scripts at the moment. I have asked if they could be installed by checking boxes for the LUA scripts you want in ETHOS Suite. I think this would be much easier for everyone.
Dear FrSky, Why don't you give your potential customer base a boost by giving them choice? Choice of operating systems, namely OTX, Edge TX and ExpressLRS. Why would a viable growing supplier of equipment ignore such an enthusiastic and growing segment of the hobby with which you once dominated? Your radios operate, look and feel great. What purpose is served by making a LUA script mind numbingly complicated when almost anyone can do this, mapping, INav, Ardupilot, TBS ect. ect. ect. by dragging and dropping simple files.
I can understand some of that frustration. I have actually asked FrSky to incorporate these RF LUA script installations in to ETHOS Suite. I think it would be so mush easier for pilots. Of course, other scripts, such as mapping, INAV, etc would still need to be installed manually (as they are with OpenTX/EdgeTX). These aren’t in a central repository, so there’s not really much choice with that. However, I don’t think FrSky need to support OpenTX/EdgeTX. The developers of EdgeTX could make a target. But to be honest, I’ve seen countless posts on Facebook where people have asked “If I install ETHOS to my X10, can I go back to OpenTX if I don’t like it?” The answer is of course yes. The ETHOS bootloader fully supports OpenTX still. But, they don’t change back. I swear I’ve not seen a single person change back. Why? Because for 95% of things, ETHOS is as good or better than OpenTX. There are a couple of places where ETHOS isn’t there, like flight mode settings (especially trims), global variables, and a couple of minor details. But for most things, it is there. And, unlike the latest version of EdgeTX with it’s sausage finger interface, it works well for touchscreen and regular screen. I will not update my X10S Express to EdgeTX, because the new interface is horrible for regular LCD screen. You have only a couple of lines of information, because every has been made huge for touch. I still use OpenTX on my X10S Express. Purely because of being able to disable trims and reassign them to other functions, depending on the flight mode. But, I do find myself getting frustrated when I use it now. Some things are just much nicer with ETHOS. As for ELRS. It has been supported since ETHOS 1.4. You just need to install the ELRS LUA script to activate the RF part. Though I have no idea it the setup LUA works with ETHOS. That’s a 3rd party LUA made by ExpressLRS. So it’s really up to them to make sure it’s compatible, if they want people to use their products with and ETHOS transmitter.
@@MrD My daily driver is the first run Jumper T16Pro MPM running ELRS 2.4 on the latest OpenTx, I have an Eachine T16S running Edge, but it is a backup for the much maligned Jumper ribbon cable X10 clone that just keeps going.
So far I haven't missed touch screen for anything I do, but while playing with it I don't see any major issues. Not being able to easily read my color screen in the sun plagues both. I am cheap though, My Original fist run X9D was a hand down, and these 2 T16 TXs were on sale for peanuts.
Whatever works for you 👍🏻 At the end of the day, so long as we’re all enjoying the flying, that’s what matters.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thanks for all the comments too 👍🏻
I got this FRSKY 20S and I wanted to program this thing so I could fly my RC model here in my ranch. not to fly a SpaceX or NASA rocket into orbit. Cause im not a rocket scientist…
I’m gonna return this transmitter tomorrow. This is just a bad nightmare. Couldn’t even find those menus. Very frustrating to try to switch to this radio brand. What’s the best brand ? The old one JR that works wonders. Not going thru this.
Thanks!
