Worked there. The trains and railway, workplace and mountain will forever be in my heart. ❤ 🏴 Such an amazing place to work and of course to visit.
3:16-3:32, and 13:49-16:38 - what amazing footage of No. 2 "Enid", especially with the locomotive running solo for a test run. Getting footage of the front of the Snowdon Mountain Engines is very difficult as they push the coaches up the mountain. By the way, I visited this railway during my summer holiday last year, and luckily for me, my steam service was provided by No. 6 "Padarn". :)
I drew a photo of Moel Siabbod, the mountain engines are so beautiful! Edit: the part in one of the rev w awdrys book where culdee falls down the mountain is actually based on an event that took place shortly after the railway had opened, strong winds caused one of the steam engines to get blown off the track, and down a ravine! (Parts of the engine might still be able to be found, because the locomotive was never recovered)
@@arthurb354also I’m pretty sure the tracks had a problem causing them to snap and then no . 1 “L.A.D.A.S” came off the tracks and skidded down until there was a curve on which she went straight over the edge ! Also the not - so damaged pieces of her was recovered and used to mend the other engines of the line , I’m pretty sure only the motions , frame s, chassis , wheels , side rods , we’re intact when he’s reached the bottom
A stunning production Ger, you had the same loco to the summit as we did....the lineside footage showing how steep the gradients are, and what a hard job it is for staff and loco alike to climb to the summit.....Regards...Bob
Thanks Bob, I really enjoyed filming the trains although it was very hot & there were midges everywhere especially on me! The steam locos seem to have a distinct sound of their own. The gradients are very steep in places. The locos do this work day in day out hammering their way to the summit. Plus, they are all over 100 years old with Padarn 96 years! Hope I last that long, Geraint
I hear their was actually a number 7 and number 8 engine on this railway but it they where sadly scrapped The number 7 was named ralph the number 8 was named eryri
Come to Coonoor, Tamilnadu, India. You can make videos of Blue Mountain railways. You have roads to follow the train routes. You can make a documentary.
Just great thanks for sharing! I don't know what else to say! (That reminds me of a forgotten TV programme from the '70s Ryan and Ronnie the "Our House" sketches about an ordinary Welsh family (!!) the husband/father who was called Will kept saying "I don't know what to say!" I wonder if anyone else remembers that I'm showing my age!)
Yep, however...the engine was recovered in LITERAL, PIECES. You literally couldn't do anything with it, except use the parts in good enough conditions for repairs-
Snowdon really isn't a proper railway in my eyes, not like other heritage lines. It focuses more on just taking the passengers up and down, rather than being heritage and trying to tell its story, rather sad really
Sorry to to disagree with you but it very much is a heritage Railway. The line itself is uniqiue to the UK built in 1896, the locos all have unique history, other than in Switzerland you will not find such a line in the whole world. It aint sad at all its the opposite! But you are entitled to your opinion.
100 year old steam engines still in service. Now that's incredible.
Yes it is & as you can see they work very hard!
Talyllyn is a 155 years old
Isn't Dolgoch 153 years old or something around that?
I mean, stepney's 144-145 years old, I'm sure of that.
Oh yeah, whoops.

Thank you very much for your comment John. It really is aa amazing place to visit. Hoping to go back in September, Geraint
Incredible Video, the Mountain Engines are the Best there is.
Thank you, I agree about locos. I recently revisited Snowdon. Check out 'Above Hebron' Snowdon Mountain Railway too.

Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the video & that it brought back many happy memories for you.
I wish I could go here, guess I can always just go to the worlds first mountain railway (the cog railway), a state away from me!

They certainly are! Didnt know about the Rev Awdrey connection thanks for letting me know.
@@caerphillycastle no problem!
It's Godred, not Culdee.
@@ABellEngine thank you for your correction!

Yes I remember that programme too! Thank you very much for your kind comment.
Do you remember the phrase "And don't call Will on your father!" I do! I think it can be found on RUclips somewhere...
No I don't remember that phrase. But it was a good show!
Captured in action! Guard on the final train...
Interesting to see where the coal is sitting at 3:50. It wasn't what I was expecting to be honest.
Number 6 is lord harry! At 2:30
nice video bro
Thank you for your comment
When you realise how fast they go!!!!
I'd certainly recommend some insect repellent, particularly this year.
I totally agree with you, I didnt expect so many early in the season either.
2:41 Lord Harry? Is that you?
3:25 more importantly is that GODRED?
No it's aliric XD
Can go twice our speed in perfect safety
@@ECtransformertoysOfficalGodreds real life counterpart, Ladas, crashed on the railway’s opening day. I believe that Enid is Ernest’s basis.
what gauge is that engine standard or narrow?
Narrow gauge railway. Not sure of exact dimensions as they vary a lot depending on the different railways.
@@caerphillycastle These guys deserved more books
I see culdee and lord harry
I live in Wales so maybe me and my Grandad can go to the Snowdonian Railway
Its well worth a visit but call the station first to book & see if the train is pulled by a steam loco or diesel.
I wonder if anyone ever tried to put faces in these guys' fronts and backs
I really hope not!
Was Ladas scrapped?
Not sure sorry.

all I can think about is this video is poor L.A.D.A.S :(
It looks like culdee
Because the culdee fell modelled after the snowdonia mountain 🏔 railway 🚃🚂
Itu dimana
Kereta Api Gunung Snowdon di Wales UK
looks like an N scale layout too bad the people move and ruin the illusion
