I love this advice. I shop mainly at secondhand stores because it’s how I can get the best quality clothes on my budget. The items I seek out are classic pieces that I can wear for a long time and create lots of outfits with. One of the best compliments I ever received was from my best friend’s teenaged daughter. My friend told me that they were talking about me after I had left their house one day, and her daughter said, “Kimber always looks so elegant!” Best. Compliment. EVER! 😎
I stood behind a woman today who had every designer label on display and actually looked cheap. I think real style is the ability to put yourself together in a effortlessly simple way. If you own pieces that you have worn for more than 15 years and nobody knows then you are stylish.

I could not agree more!....As an English women living in California I do stand out amongst the sea of athletic gear that all around me wear and am always getting comments about how stylish I am....the truth is that 80% of my wardrobe is from charity shops.I tend to wear little black dressses with ballerina flats and my signature is fishnet hosiery. I add a pop of color with maybe a red beads and flats or pink flats....always less is more.... Finding what is right for your shape is also the key... I have been following you for a long time and I keep on telling women about your videos....I cannot bear all the yoga pants and leggings I see on all women even my age.... It has nothing to do with style, and individuality. Expensive brands do not make us "impressive". For that we have to rely on our own style, and on our confidence in ourselves. Hi Marie-Anne, wealth has always been a beauty ideal. When people are poor, curvy women with a little more body fat are seen as desirable. When the high class people where working inside and the low class outside, pale skin was a beauty ideal. When the rich people could afford travelling south, it was being tan. So I do not even blame the label hunters, even if I think they got it wrong. I have seen some videos on how to look "expensive" and the stylists I trust usually advise to take understated quality pieces and curate an outfit around one key piece. Might be a piece of clothing or accessory
Marie-Anne, honestly, it’s one of the downfalls of so many American women. It’s so important and all-encompassing for them to look rich. Too much value is placed on looking like you have money. It’s LABELS, LABELS, LABELS here. Funny thing is, people spend so much money on designer items to look rich, but they still go out looking messy. Looking stylish while being true to ourselves is appropriate and good. The outside should express the inside, what is in the heart. You are correct that trying to look expensive is vulgar. Who is being pleased by this? Is it an expression of greed that is satisfied, or a deep inadequacy about who we are that we must hide from the world? This is a philosophical issue you have raised about the nature of what is good. You had me laughing my head off at all the silly videos on how to look expensive. What is good? What is beautiful? I recently finished a course where we were advised to find our "Fashion Icon" from among the rich and famous and I recall saying, what good will that do for me, I am not going to be on the red carpet anytime soon and I'm not rich enough to mimic their style, and personally in their day to day they don't look very well put-together. I prefer to dress the way you discussed here Marie-Anne. As my mother modeled to me and advised me. I went through a period where I tried on different styles of clothing after watching you tube clips or Dressing Your Truth, which I found none of were my truth anyway, and I would catch myself in windows or mirrors and think "that's not me" it didn't feel easy or right. No, I prefer now to dress in a way that feels right, its so much easier to be yourself. I don't have to worry about wearing labels and logos, because I cant afford them (laugh) and I have always wondered why a handbag this is plastic but is covered from top to bottom in someone else's initials is so sought after??? Why would I want to advertise for them, they're rich enough already. I recently watched a film called Yves St Laurent and I was shocked and saddened by his life story and his apparel which was anything but elegant. It started out elegant and became vulgar. I don't know why he was so applauded. So let the rich have their diamonds and furs. It didn't do Liz Taylor any good, her life story was so very sad too.

I love the Dressing Your Truth series - I always wondered why I didn’t look or feel right in Boho, no matter how many times I tried different things - it looks good on SO many people, but on me it looks sloppy and like I’m trying too hard. As much as I wanted to wear pastels and soft colors (type 2), they washed me out. I used to dress in type 1 colors (pretty much defined the 80’s) but I’m the opposite of type 1 energy. Figuring out I’m type 4 was so refreshing - no more trying to make pastel floral patterns, flowy lace, and muted colors look good on me. It’s funny because I’ve been drawn to stripes, polka dots, and clean lines all my life - if I hold up a striped shirt or sweater and the lines aren’t even around the neck (for example) I will look for one that is perfect or I pass. My eye goes right to the flaw and lopsided bugs me. If I go by the “rules”, I should be wearing light colors, low contrast, but I’m not drawn to them. That serious makes me wish everyone knew about it. It’s a lot easier to shop for clothing when you can rule out 75% of what’s on the rack. What type are you?
Shallow people will always be attracted to shallow ideas and concepts! People with depth are attracted to things that have meaning that goes beyond and above the mere crass concept of money!
I love this message and format and you are looking so lovely in your white linen with the jacket draped. With my confidence and knowledge, encouraged by you, I have been able to purchase a few understated, fine quality pieces at the summer sales I would have overlooked in the past. I spent the same on two pieces that previous years I would have bought a half dozen mismatched pieces that would hang in my closet. Clothes that make me smile and feel good wearing them. I also loved learning more about France in your birthday gift video. How life there is expensive so quality is saved for. Less is more - and the enjoyment of quality. Great advice to focus on looking YOUR best, not trying to copy a celebrity. But then again, look at Christine Lagarde -- usually in Chanel, and looking 1) age appropriate, 2) stylish, 3) tasteful, 4) wealthy. Of course, she is not faking it! I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing expensive shoes, jewelry, accessories, clothing etc. when you can afford it and if you genuinely love the item. The trap is when people pile it on, wear something that doesn't suit them because it's "designer" and let their clothes wear them, instead of the other way around.
Ah Marie-Anne, that is an interesting topic: quality vs "recognizability". And there is going to be a difference in look, drape, comfort etc. between a silk blouse and one made of a synthetic. BIg logos? Jamais chic!

We didn't have alot of money when I was growing up, but when it came to my mother getting dressed for work or any occasion, she had a way of making any outfit she put together just right....it was always perfect to me. Even as a little girl, I loved watching her getting ready.....whatever she chose to put together, down to her earrings, scarf or pin, showed a special style all her own, and that even as young as I was, I knew and could appreciate. She had a special flair or talent for always looking so special....she had, like ma grandmere, that special french, je ne sais quoi ! Even as an adult, as I would be packing for week long business trips and meetings, I would always love it if she was visiting because she would be there and give me her ideas.... we'd often agree, and come up with the same ideas, but I had a good teacher, and sometimes I had my own style ideas too ;)
Marie-Anne.......I forgot....when ma mere and I would go to the beach, we would be on the blanket and late in the season, The NY Times would come out with their Fall Fashion Magazine. It was our favorite season for clothes for the year! Even though what they showed was extremely expensive.....we would go through the pages and each one of us would pick out which outfit we individually liked the best on each page...(Mon Dieux!), or, we would critique them and sort of mix and match outfits we didn't think were that special and how we would each change them. The NYT Fall Magazine Edtion was soooooo thick, it would last us a couple of weekends at the beach....and by September, it was fairly battered and sandy!! Those were the days, .....I miss her so much still, and missed out on playing that "game" with ma grandmere as she died young. I so missed out on not having a teenaged and even young adult relationship with her....it is one of my great regrets in life :(

Wearing huge garish logos makes me feel like I am an advertisement billboard! Another thing that is vulgar are fake claw fingernails with multiple design or loud colors Yuch. But some ladies think that is classy and spend oodles of money. Bottom line: to each her own.
Wonderful video! I wish every American teenage girl could see this video, then maybe re-watch it every couple of years thereafter, to help them maintain a healthy perspective in our crazy, materialistic culture! I had to chuckle, reminded of the time many years ago when I lost my head and bought a very expensive designer handbag (on clearance sale) because it was so beautiful. I never like obvious designer logos, so I ended up carrying the bag backwards, to hide the name. 😂 Despite the deep discount, I felt foolish for having spent as much on it as I did!
I agree. We need to dress for first, our silhouette, and then our color. I have purchased clothes at second hand stores that have given me many great looks, attracted many compliments, and above all else, given me joy to wear. If I like the outfit, I leave the house feeling confident, and have a good time. I recently dressed for a night out with friends to a high end restaurant. I kept it simple, but knew the outfit was well pulled together. As I entered the piazza in my village in Italy, a young lady man exclaimed, “you always look so beautiful “! Trust me, at 67 years of age, and 5 feet tall, I am far from a fashion model. But, that brings Marie Anne’s point home, we all have the capability to pull a cohesive look together, within a reasonable budget, and leave home knowing we look chic, and stylish. "You look beautiful" resonates better than "I love that dress" - it says they are seeing you in totality. Love this video! This reminds me of what my mother taught me growing up (she studied clothing technology): clothes and accessories need not be expensive or to have conspicuous logos for one to be well-dressed. What matters more is they are of good quality and they suit the person wearing them.

Ivettie I assure you, here in London it is the same thing. Rich people wear labels. Everyone else blends into the woodwork. It is dull and depressing on the tube, bus or train. Everyone looks dull, boring and banal. Zero style or individuality apart from some Italian woman. French women have an innate sense of what is chic, tasteful and create their OWN style. Oh my goodness- I couldn’t agree more! Here in the United States women of all ages follow ( dare I say even worship?) celebrities and will go into debt to emulate them. Luxury brands with their garish logos (because if one buys a Gucci belt everybody must know) are so popular....it seems somewhat silly to me. Mind you, I invest in good quality shoes and clothing that will last, but I could care less what Kim Kardashian is wearing! 👗👒👜
All I have to say is WOW! This could not have been stated more simply. I am loving what you said. I recently sold my LV bags because I was ready for a different experience. I noticed that women would often notice my bag before they noticed me and I want people to see me for the quality woman I am....and how I present myself...not the labels I’m wearing. I prefer no labels (nothing against those who do) and look for quality at all price ranges. I never understood those videos of how to look expensive because like you mentioned, it’s a facade and anyone who has any quality of intellect and not empty can see. 🌹 I also see it as a way for the industry to try to keep us in a state of discontentment and want more. 💕
And I usually tell my daughter that people who are actually wealthy vs “rich/expensive” and can afford designer for everyday wear prefer to spend their money on experiences and not “looking” expensive.

I think that many people think that if it is expensive that it is stylish. They don’t understand what style is. Hopefully some will be fortunate to see you wonderful videos and find out what their style is. I was taught that we teach by example, so keep up the good work everyone.
I do not even understand why someone's main aim is to look expensive. As you say that is not the same as being stylish. I also feel looking like that, and being covered in logos, will attract friends who are shallow and judgmental. I mostly buy my clothes from charity shops as I can find good quality clothes in a wider range of styles than in the shops. With the money saved, I can also pay to alter them to suit my figure better. I occasionally venture into Harvey Nichols to have a look at the designer clothes and I am genuinely surprised at how poorly made some of them are.

Hey fellow early-grey person, I myself use henna to make the grey reflect the same way as my auburn hair. I do not hide them completely. I suppose your hair is dark. Zhey say dark hair greys earlier - which is not true, it is just more visible. Do whatever you are confident with. You need to feel beautiful.

I think the focus on looking "expensive" in fashion mirrors the trend for "compliment getters" in perfume at the moment. For me discovering your style (in clothes or perfume) is an understanding of yourself, of art, and of culture. That is when it is exciting and thought provoking. Most people nowadays want conformity that helps them "level up". So happy when I come upon communities like this where it still is about creativity.

I have looked at many of those "how to look expensive videos" and I realised recently, from watching your channel and a couple of others (Audrey Coyne and School of Affluence) that when I was thinking 'expensive' I really meant 'stylish'. I don't think I would have realised this and made the very important distinction without your (plural) help, and this has been invaluable, priceless. I thought for many years that I would have to spend a lot of money on hair cuts and colour, nails, make-up, skin-care and potions, shoes, bags, clothes, jewellery - oh and lose 30kg of body fat - before I had a hope of looking expensive/stylish. From what you have shown me in less than 6 months, I am looking more stylish RIGHT NOW, from simply being the best version I can be, right now, following simple, effective guidelines; I got a good haircut and stopped worrying about the greys; I gently file and paint my own nails a very neutral colour a couple of times a week; I culled my wardrobe of tops, sending two huge bags of no-longer-suitable clothes to goodwill (I only wear black pants and black shoes, so they didn't need culling); I culled my costume jewellery by 90%, surprised at how cheap most of it looked, now that I was looking at everything with a fresh, clean attitude. Since doing all of this I have been asked a number of times if I have lost weight - I think what these nice, complimentary people are responding to is the fact that I simply look 'fresher' now - everything that I wear now has cleaner lines, fits properly, are more subtle in colour and simple in style, and that makes me look better than I have in years - and has cost me hardly anything. Marie-Anne, thank-you for changing my life.

You are right, Marie-Anne! "Looking expensive" is about ego and is fake - or, "tacky" as we say in the south! :) Style is about making your own statement and is genuine.
When I first saw your video notification on how to look expensive, I thought here we go again another video on trying to impress others with brand names I am so happy I opened it and you are so right. Why be a designer billboard advertising what you are wearing and how much it cost. For me it screams “look at me” ! A secure lady knows what looks great on her and the most expensive look is her priceless well groom style. She wears the clothes the clothes don’t wear her. You don’t need a lot money to acquire the traits of poise, Friendly, Kindness and grace these traits are priceless.

My grandmother taught me to look for clothing and accessories that are made well from good material and fit well- and to take care each. Jewelry to be classic -pearl necklaces in all lengths, simple Silver,gold or diamond stud earrings, several statement pieces made include watches and bracelets or rings.
Great Information Marie-Anne! I just watched 'Roman Holiday" again the other day. After I watched it, I realized that the reason Audrey Hepburn became a style icon might have been because she definitely knew how to dress for her body type, etc. She knew what worked for her and she always looked so put together. I think it's all about confidence. Because someone confident could walk down a street in a simple black dress and know she looks good. When you feel like this it instantly takes your whole look up a notch. Women need to be kinder to themselves and dress for how they want to and enjoy being feminine. I am so glad you talked about those trying to look expensive videos. I really agree, if anyone flashing around the big labels, to me that is infact cheap and off putting. Marianne, I clicked on a few "How to look expensive" themed clips. I was expecting some hacks to be honest, but I was wrong. Everything actually WAS expensive. The shops I use were spoken of with disdain. Imagine how unworthy I could have felt as I embarked on my journey of re-inventing myself; if I hadn't found you first and found out that it is style that reigns supreme? On my shopping trip last week, I wore my white button-down shirt, my navy straight-cut trousers, a navy blazer, some large stud pearl earrings, a simple scarf, and my large burnt orange shoulder tote bag, all high street. A much needed video on RUclips! Such an affirmation of the individual! Being an individual and original is stylish. Taking pride in how we present ourselves is stylish. The only reason anyone would want to look "expensive" is to let others know they like money and want to say that they value money most in their lives. Some people want to look expensive because they think it will open doors for them to get into elite circles. I love what you said about what the world really needs - YOU - not another rich celebrity wannabe.
So well said, Marie Anne. You are speaking my mind! I love how outspoken you are! Showing true-self requires self confidence and self acceptance. It comes with life experience and maturity. Style requires understanding of trues-self and the skill to express it in a unique way. That requires continuous learning /improvement . My husband sometimes teases me when I try to put an outfit together : You are trying so hard to look not try too hard! There is a lot truth to it. I love this advice. I shop mainly at secondhand stores because it’s how I can get the best quality clothes on my budget. The items I seek out are classic pieces that I can wear for a long time and create lots of outfits with. One of the best compliments I ever received was from my best friend’s teenaged daughter. My friend told me that they were talking about me after I had left their house one day, and her daughter said, “Kimber always looks so elegant!”

I could not agree more!....As an English women living in California I do stand out amongst the sea of athletic gear that all around me wear and am always getting comments about how stylish I am....the truth is that 80% of my wardrobe is from charity shops.I tend to wear little black dressses with ballerina flats and my signature is fishnet hosiery. I add a pop of color with maybe a red beads and flats or pink flats....always less is more....
Finding what is right for your shape is also the key...

Hi Marie-Anne, wealth has always been a beauty ideal. When people are poor, curvy women with a little more body fat are seen as desirable. When the high class people where working inside and the low class outside, pale skin was a beauty ideal. When the rich people could afford travelling south, it was being tan. So I do not even blame the label hunters, even if I think they got it wrong. I have seen some videos on how to look "expensive" and the stylists I trust usually advise to take understated quality pieces and curate an outfit around one key piece. Might be a piece of clothing or accessory

Who is being pleased by this? Is it an expression of greed that is satisfied, or a deep inadequacy about who we are that we must hide from the world? I was a bit surprised when I saw the title of today's video-- it didn't sound like something you would promote- I'm so pleased to hear your views about the topic and that you were true to your character. I recently finished a course where we were advised to find our "Fashion Icon" from among the rich and famous and I recall saying, what good will that do for me, I am not going to be on the red carpet anytime soon and I'm not rich enough to mimic their style, and personally in their day to day they don't look very well put-together. I prefer to dress the way you discussed here Marie-Anne. As my mother modeled to me and advised me. I went through a period where I tried on different styles of clothing after watching you tube clips or Dressing Your Truth, which I found none of were my truth anyway, and I would catch myself in windows or mirrors and think "that's not me" it didn't feel easy or right. No, I prefer now to dress in a way that feels right, its so much easier to be yourself. I don't have to worry about wearing labels and logos, because I cant afford them (laugh) and I have always wondered why a handbag this is plastic but is covered from top to bottom in someone else's initials is so sought after??? Why would I want to advertise for them, they're rich enough already. I recently watched a film called Yves St Laurent and I was shocked and saddened by his life story and his apparel which was anything but elegant. It started out elegant and became vulgar. I don't know why he was so applauded. So let the rich have their diamonds and furs. It didn't do Liz Taylor any good, her life story was so very sad too.

I love the Dressing Your Truth series - I always wondered why I didn’t look or feel right in Boho, no matter how many times I tried different things - it looks good on SO many people, but on me it looks sloppy and like I’m trying too hard. As much as I wanted to wear pastels and soft colors (type 2), they washed me out. I used to dress in type 1 colors (pretty much defined the 80’s) but I’m the opposite of type 1 energy. Figuring out I’m type 4 was so refreshing - no more trying to make pastel floral patterns, flowy lace, and muted colors look good on me. It’s funny because I’ve been drawn to stripes, polka dots, and clean lines all my life - if I hold up a striped shirt or sweater and the lines aren’t even around the neck (for example) I will look for one that is perfect or I pass. My eye goes right to the flaw and lopsided bugs me. If I go by the “rules”, I should be wearing light colors, low contrast, but I’m not drawn to them. That serious makes me wish everyone knew about it. It’s a lot easier to shop for clothing when you can rule out 75% of what’s on the rack. What type are you?

I love this message and format and you are looking so lovely in your white linen with the jacket draped. With my confidence and knowledge, encouraged by you, I have been able to purchase a few understated, fine quality pieces at the summer sales I would have overlooked in the past. I spent the same on two pieces that previous years I would have bought a half dozen mismatched pieces that would hang in my closet. Clothes that make me smile and feel good wearing them. I also loved learning more about France in your birthday gift video. How life there is expensive so quality is saved for. Less is more - and the enjoyment of quality. Great advice to focus on looking YOUR best, not trying to copy a celebrity. But then again, look at Christine Lagarde -- usually in Chanel, and looking 1) age appropriate, 2) stylish, 3) tasteful, 4) wealthy. Of course, she is not faking it!
I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing expensive shoes, jewelry, accessories, clothing etc. when you can afford it and if you genuinely love the item. The trap is when people pile it on, wear something that doesn't suit them because it's "designer" and let their clothes wear them, instead of the other way around.
Ah Marie-Anne, that is an interesting topic: quality vs "recognizability". And there is going to be a difference in look, drape, comfort etc. between a silk blouse and one made of a synthetic.

Even as a little girl, I loved watching her getting ready.....whatever she chose to put together, down to her earrings, scarf or pin, showed a special style all her own, and that even as young as I was, I knew and could appreciate. She had a special flair or talent for always looking so special....she had, like ma grandmere, that special french,
je ne sais quoi ! Even as an adult, as I would be packing for week long business trips and meetings, I would always love it if she was visiting because she would be there and give me her ideas.... we'd often agree, and come up with the same ideas, but

Marie-Anne.......I forgot....when ma mere and I would go to the beach, we would be on the blanket and late in the season, The NY Times would come out with their Fall Fashion Magazine. It was our favorite season for clothes for the year! Even though what they showed was extremely expensive.....we would go through the pages and each one of us would pick out which outfit we individually liked the best on each page...(Mon Dieux!), or, we would critique them and sort of mix and match outfits we didn't think were that special and how we would each change them. The NYT Fall Magazine Edtion was soooooo thick, it would last us a couple of weekends at the beach....and by September, it was fairly battered and sandy!! Those were the days, .....I miss her so much still, and missed out on playing that "game" with ma grandmere as she
died young. I so missed out on not having a teenaged and even young adult relationship with her....it is one of my great regrets in life :(

Wonderful video! I wish every American teenage girl could see this video, then maybe re-watch it every couple of years thereafter, to help them maintain a healthy perspective in our crazy, materialistic culture! I had to chuckle, reminded of the time many years ago when I lost my head and bought a very expensive designer handbag (on clearance sale) because it was so beautiful. I never like obvious designer logos, so I ended up carrying the bag backwards, to hide the name. 😂 Despite the deep discount, I felt foolish for having spent as much on it as I did!
I agree. We need to dress for first, our silhouette, and then our color. I have purchased clothes at second hand stores that have given me many great looks, attracted many compliments, and above all else, given me joy to wear. If I like the outfit, I leave the house feeling confident, and have a good time. I recently dressed for a night out with friends to a high end restaurant. This reminds me of what my mother taught me growing up (she studied clothing technology): clothes and accessories need not be expensive or to have conspicuous logos for one to be well-dressed. What matters more is they are of good quality and they suit the person wearing them.

Oh my goodness- I couldn’t agree more! Here in the United States women of all ages follow ( dare I say even worship?) celebrities and will go into debt to emulate them. Luxury brands with their garish logos (because if one buys a Gucci belt everybody must know) are so popular....it seems somewhat silly to me. All I have to say is WOW! This could not have been stated more simply. I am loving what you said. I recently sold my LV bags because I was ready for a different experience. I noticed that women would often notice my bag before they noticed me and I want people to see me for the quality woman I am....and how I present myself...not the labels I’m wearing. I prefer no labels (nothing against those who do) and look for quality at all price ranges. I never understood those videos of how to look expensive because like you mentioned, it’s a facade and anyone who has any quality of intellect and not empty can see. 🌹 I also see it as a way for the industry to try to keep us in a state of discontentment and want more. 💕
And I usually tell my daughter that people who are actually wealthy vs “rich/expensive” and can afford designer for everyday wear prefer to spend their money on experiences and not “looking” expensive.

I think that many people think that if it is expensive that it is stylish. They don’t understand what style is. Hopefully some will be fortunate to see you wonderful videos and find out what their style is. I was taught that we teach by example, so keep up the good work everyone.
I do not even understand why someone's main aim is to look expensive. As you say that is not the same as being stylish. I also feel looking like that, and being covered in logos, will attract friends who are shallow and judgmental. I mostly buy my clothes from charity shops as I can find good quality clothes in a wider range of styles than in the shops. With the money saved, I can also pay to alter them to suit my figure better. I occasionally venture into Harvey Nichols to have a look at the designer clothes and I am genuinely surprised at how poorly made some of them are.

Hey fellow early-grey person, I myself use henna to make the grey reflect the same way as my auburn hair. I do not hide them completely. I suppose your hair is dark. Zhey say dark hair greys earlier - which is not true, it is just more visible. Do whatever you are confident with. You need to feel beautiful.

I think the focus on looking "expensive" in fashion mirrors the trend for "compliment getters" in perfume at the moment. For me discovering your style (in clothes or perfume) is an understanding of yourself, of art, and of culture. That is when it is exciting and thought provoking. Most people nowadays want conformity that helps them "level up". So happy when I come upon communities like this where it still is about creativity.

I thought for many years that I would have to spend a lot of money on hair cuts and colour, nails, make-up, skin-care and potions, shoes, bags, clothes, jewellery - oh and lose 30kg of body fat - before I had a hope of looking expensive/stylish. From what you have shown me in less than 6 months, I am looking more stylish RIGHT NOW, from simply being the best version I can be, right now, following simple, effective guidelines; I got a good haircut and stopped worrying about the greys; I gently file and paint my own nails a very neutral colour a couple of times a week; I culled my wardrobe of tops, sending two huge bags of no-longer-suitable clothes to goodwill (I only wear black pants and black shoes, so they didn't need culling); I culled my costume jewellery by 90%, surprised at how cheap most of it looked, now that I was looking at everything with a fresh, clean attitude.
Since doing all of this I have been asked a number of times if I have lost weight - I think what these nice, complimentary people are responding to is the fact that I simply look 'fresher' now - everything that I wear now has cleaner lines, fits properly, are more subtle in colour and simple in style, and that makes me look better than I have in years - and has cost me hardly anything. Marie-Anne, thank-you for changing my life.

I absolutely agree with your statements and I do see people trying too hard as sometimes an indication of being a little too interested in their own looks, or sadly not having enough confidence by just being their "natural you" and because of this, sadly sometimes projects a fake personality. Being dressed stylish and timeless and to be well kept, projects to me personally, confidence of how you see yourself. Thanks for your great insight (and humor at the end of your video! You are right, Marie-Anne! "Looking expensive" is about ego and is fake - or, "tacky" as we say in the south! :) Style is about making your own statement and is genuine.

When I first saw your video notification on how to look expensive, I thought here we go again another video on trying to impress others with brand names I am so happy I opened it and you are so right. Why be a designer billboard advertising what you are wearing and how much it cost. For me it screams “look at me” ! A secure lady knows what looks great on her and the most expensive look is her priceless well groom style. She wears the clothes the clothes don’t wear her. You don’t need a lot money to acquire the traits of poise, Friendly, Kindness and grace these traits are priceless.

Great Information Marie-Anne! I just watched 'Roman Holiday" again the other day. After I watched it, I realized that the reason Audrey Hepburn became a style icon might have been because she definitely knew how to dress for her body type, etc. She knew what worked for her and she always looked so put together. In many ways she had a classic style, at least in my opinion. Thanks for all you do.

One company that I worked at said that Friday was "dress down" day. But dress down did not mean shabby and NO logo shirts were allowed.
I think it's all about confidence. Because someone confident could walk down a street in a simple black dress and know she looks good. When you feel like this it instantly takes your whole look up a notch. Women need to be kinder to themselves and dress for how they want to and enjoy being feminine. And if women are unsure what really flatters them, go and ask advice from a personal shopper or watch more of your channel! x 😄

I am so glad you talked about those trying to look expensive videos. I really agree, if anyone flashing around the big labels, to me that is infact cheap and off putting. Hopefully many people will learn from you and pay more attention on style that actually suits them. A person with a good taste in fashion and style is way more attractive.
Marianne, I clicked on a few "How to look expensive" themed clips. I was expecting some hacks to be honest, but I was wrong. Everything actually WAS expensive. The shops I use were spoken of with disdain. Imagine how unworthy I could have felt as I embarked on my journey of re-inventing myself; if I hadn't found you first and found out that it is style that reigns supreme? On my shopping trip last week, I wore my white button-down shirt, my navy straight-cut trousers, a navy blazer, some large stud pearl earrings, a simple scarf, and my large burnt orange shoulder tote bag, all high street. I felt good, and I felt stylish. I remember leaving a comment to you a while ago where I complained that as a plus-size woman,I couldn't expect to carry off the French chic look. After having compliments lavished on me, ( following my reading of your book, devoted to plus size ladies), I stood happily corrected. ❤❤

A much needed video on RUclips! Such an affirmation of the individual! Being an individual and original is stylish. Taking pride in how we present ourselves is stylish. The only reason anyone would want to look "expensive" is to let others know they like money and want to say that they value money most in their lives. Some people want to look expensive because they think it will open doors for them to get into elite circles. I love what you said about what the world really needs - YOU - not another rich celebrity wannabe.

Style requires understanding of trues-self and the skill to express it in a unique way. That requires continuous learning /improvement .
