I enjoy your videos. You're very good and informative. I've started a RUclips channel recently and I'm discovering,... Model Building is fun and easy,.. sometimes..... Video production is hard. I'm learning. Anyway, I'm a fan of your channel.
Welcome to the model community and YT production... The real hard part is answering comments... Lol Enjoy the process of it all. Been doing it for 4 years and still suck at it but were having jun... 😁 LLAP 🖖
@Bruces-Eclectic-World Hi Bruce, Thanks for the welcome. I'm truly flying by the seat of my pants with this video production but I'm enjoying it for the most part. I'm not very good at it yet but I'll keep learning. Saw your video, Good Stuff ! I appreciate you reaching out. Be well my friend.
Thanks Papas I really appreciate it. Your in a great community with a-lot of amazing people and talents. Yes the editing can have a learning curve, after a bit it's fun, I find it's one of my favorite part of my RUclips journey.
Excellent demo. Great cluster of tones. I add some sheen highlights to dead flats by just rubbing my fingers over it. My favorite Floquil color was Oily Black. I went to replace a bottle that dried out and was saddened to hear of another great supplier's passing. "other companies are making it..." Who makes the Grimy Black color?
Thanks appreciate it! When I found out it was no more, went to the Hobby shop near me that is now closed. Trains were all they sold, had everything in all scales, was like adult candyland lol. Tru-Color makes grimmy black I think it's a Rapido (model RR company) Paints, they have almost all the old Floquil colors. I have been wanting to get some Chessie yellow, orange and blue to paint a few HO locos.
@@kregskorner8851 Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize how difficult it is to find an oily engine wash until mine dried up. I asked AK and MIG reps at IPMS and they basically had nothing. Just 20 shades of mud and dirt. There are some folks selling NOS bottles of the original Floquil on eBay at opportunistic prices. They know what they got.😂
I learned very early in my comeback to modeling the advantages to being able to use varying shades of black when building models. Having this skill really improves your ability to build. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Kreg! I want you to know I really appreciate you making this video! I’m definitely going to be coming back to this video a lot when it comes to painting my models. 🙌🏼 Thank you
For several years, I used a paint made by either Testors or Model Master. It was called Euro Grey, and it was very close to the Nato Black you used. It was a flat paint but had just enough of a sheen that it could pass for leather. I loved using it for seats.
I was a Testors guy forever, just started using the other brands a few years ago for models. So cool to see how they look together. Have a good one Bob!
Awesome video Kreg. I do the same thing with silvers and chrome silvers. One trick I do is I paint the chassis flat black and take a bit of Quick Shine and highlight the areas I want glossy. I is cool to watch others and see how they do things and get that one thing that ya like for sure. Thanks and I need to use that Nato Black more often for sure... Lol LLAP 🖖
Yes the GTP is going good. Actually that first chassis was the Dart for the USACC group build. Anytime I have a extra in the airbrush I will dig out a next build and paint till it runs out vs dumping.
Interesting and useful info. Fifty years ago when I was actively building kits, we had only one black available to us in my neck of the woods, Testors black (gloss). You indirectly brought up something else I've been interested in since I'm coming back around to model building, and that's how much appearance difference is there really when using a color over the top of different colors of primer? Maybe that's a future episode by Professor Kreg! 😉
That's all I had for a long time just gloss and had flat. That would make a great video with a primer palette and hit with color to see the difference.. Will for sure look into this. Have a good one Ray!
Excellent information and excellent timing! I’m experimenting with this exact concept for the engine bay of a ‘65 pickup. Reference photos suggest (to me) that a brown/red-brown tinted black may work. Your Alclad example may fit the bill.
Thanks Kevin, II had been thinking on making this for a few weeks, I had a guy ask what color I used on my chassis, thought demo time lol The Alclad is soom cool stuff.
Painting with black was somethig a couple oof us were talkig abou just the other day so was good to see this. You would be an expert in cleaning an airbrush after this test
Thanks and your right there was a-lot of thinner and cleaning used for this. Plus on top of it I sprayed the wrong color on one and started over lol that was fun!
Very cool! I like the comparisons of the different hues of black and their possible uses. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Alan, cool to see them in comparison!
Great video Kreg. very helpful. Thanks for sharing .
Very cool seeing the various shades of black👍
Thought would be neet to see in a group, Have a good one Charlie!

Yes the comments can be time consuming, though it's cool to see the input from others and I always find new channels from people who have commented.
Welcome aboard! I'm pretty new myself, I just do them from my phone, keep it simple and have fun! Just subbed 👍
Nice video on the color of black, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Donnie, cool to compare for ideas.
Great video like the idea with the black paint 👍🏿
Thanks Leon, thought it would make a great subject!
Fantastic tips today Kreg! Gonna take my engine bay and undercarriage detail to the next level
Thanks for showing the different blacks. Great video
Thanks Chuck, it's cool to see them altogether.

Thanks Michael, I am so amazed how cool just some extra time with painting can give nice results.
Awesome information, thanks for sharing Kreg .
Hope it was helpful. Have a good one Ron!
Awesome info thanks for sharing Kreg.
Appreciate you checking it out Jon.
That is an awesome comparison Kreg! Thanks for this as it really helps distinguish the different blacks.
Thanks Larry, Had a few ask about the different colors. Figured this would be a good comparison..

Thank you for sharing
No problem, was cool to see them next to one another..
Yesss share away!!!!!
Thanks Paul, looking to do a similar video on silver paints
RIP Floquil. I miss their RR paints. Polly Scale, too.
Yes I miss them also! Check out Tru-Color paints they have almost the same colors.. I think it's a Rapido company paint.
Very helpful, good video as always, thanks!
BTW, those Mustang GTP parts are looking good, and, I assume that is a Thunderbird or Cougar chassis pan, looking good.
Yes the GTP is going good. Actually that first chassis was the Dart for the USACC group build. Anytime I have a extra in the airbrush I will dig out a next build and paint till it runs out vs dumping.
great Video thanks for taking the time to do this
No problem, thinking on doing one for silver/gray tones.
@@kregskorner8851 excellent idea
that is such a great idea
Thanks, thought would be helpful.
Thanks i will be there

Excellent video ! what do you suggest when painting a black dash where the dash is metal and the dash pad is vinyl?
Thanks I would do the dash in flat and the pad in semi gloss or I like using the MR Hobby primer. Works amazing on dash detail.
I love using the tamiya LP. Do you prime parts when you use it ?
Same for me Shawn, for most parts I will just spray on the plastic, drive train, suspension and engine if doing a body I will prim.. Have a good one!
Great video.
Do you brush any of these?
Or airbrush all.
Thanks Larry, yes I also use these with brush painting, I will put some in a cap and add a drop of thinner to help it flow better with no brush marks.
Great video, except I gotta go order some paint 😂
Lol, never seems to stop.
Just moved here to michigan do you know of any model car or model car swap meets here in michigan?
Welcome to the State. You need to hit up the show in McComb NOV 10th. it's a huge show!
