Recovery groups are amazing but. Let's stop people having to run the mad gauntlet from the very beginning. Countries with better community facilities and social contract combined with more realistic drug policy. Namely Netherlands and Spain . Portugal from a more public health perspective probably have less Recovery meetings combined than the West of Scotland. Simply because there is less demand due to more nuanced approaches. Including taxing drig sales for treatment programmes from abstinence based 12 steps to same day Opioid replacement and safer consumption facilities. I absolutely agree that Recovery groups are strength for people but it is in a mileu of sparse desolation compared to other European countries.
Hi Bill. Did you film this on a Sunday? My Da was born in Lambhill in 1926, and they moved to Stonyhurst St in 1932. He and my Ma were married in St Theresa's further along Saracen St, in 1947. He then moved onto Auchinairn, around 1960. During the early 70's I was taken to visit Grannie, who still stayed in Stonyhurst St- she died in the early 80 there.. Me and a pal would go rummaging as kids around the area- there was always stuff to find in the back courts. We'd go explore the canal basin down past the old ABC factory . We'd play kick the ba' on St Teresa's slope, one priest used to chase you- another would join in the kick around. The Possilpark library is a true gem of a building- (as is the old Askit factory...) It has 5 hand painted murals depicting Science; Literature; Poetry etc- all done pre first world war. I still visit it when i pass through the area. As a kid, I recall a lot of drunks and fights spilling from the pubs- I would be too young to realise any sort of drug deals going on. I don't recall either, the area being known as Possoe... Possul certainly. But I guess every generation creates a it's own identity- a wee bit like the old Blackhill crew who would tell ye: Ah'm fae The Garngad.... I remember buying my first records from a shop on Saracen St- can't recall the name. Castles Maybe, or was that in Springburn? The walk back up Stonyhurst St hill seemed forever- however there was a wee corner shop up there - Carties, and sometimes the Black Mariah van would appear selling staples like bread, milk and cheese. This is a wee bit removed from most of the reminisces on here I guess, but I had fun times. Hari
Good to see you in Glasgow Bill. Posso as it’s known to us Glaswegians is a tough scheme but the people living there are good people. Yes there’s some who bring it down but all schemes have that my granny used to run the balmore bar on the corner of Saracen cross. I come from Drumchapel not too far away from Posso and we have the same problems. But it’s a great place Glasgow very similar to your Liverpool 😎
My dad was from the drum. Invercanny drive. Was born in 1955. I’m from Bournemouth where he moved to. Got out of there late 70s. He used to say Bournemouth was like st tropes to them coming from up there. Must of been. Not anymore, it looks a bit like Saracen street now lol. Great people in Glasgow tho. I miss the days of going up there.

A tough place but I’ve worked with a lot of really good guys from Possill. Like many of these areas there’s a lot of decent people in there. Like your videos Billy have a good time in Glasgow 👍🏻
At least you actually get in the heart of these towns and cities and mingle with the crowd. Dropped loads of cars n vans in Glasgow when working a red reg , fantastic stone grey architecture, with years of neglect n poverty etc all mixed in with industrial/ ports etc, to much to explain in a comment, but in a nut shell real nice people, the locals in the local shops on the council estate's would buzz of me being an English northwest lad, when I was trying to get some square sosage & the Scot bred loaf with crust on the ends. Like you said Bill they made me feel welcome.

Spent a bit of time up in Possil. Never felt anything but a good welcome. Made to feel comfortable. Unlike other parts of Glasgow the boys up here never expected you to become involved in any of their community violence. Very considerate and from both sides too. Strange but also very much respect for outsiders. I was brought up only a few miles away so not immune to the ‘activities’ 😏 So respect to ma man Tam Dott and to Gofer and all the troops. Hope yer doing okay troops. ✊✌️

While it's easy to point fingers at local councils for the deprivation we see, the core issues often stem from the actions and attitudes of the people themselves. A stronger sense of community and personal responsibility could address many of these problems, however, due to the rising poverty and the relentless barrage of globalism that is creating more division and weakening our local communities, these issues are only going to get worse - The UK is fucked.
Good to hear some passion Bill when you mentioned the government and councils it's sickening but if we all pull together we won't need them. There is a saying, 'Be the change you want to see in the world' councils and governments are too busy dividing and trying to control it's people hence the reason why we are where we are. And now they have turned their attention to housing and funding clothing and feeding others to drive the final dagger into their own people.
Saracen street used to be like sumtin out The Wire back in the day. Used to get taxi there from town after a night out could get Charlie from close entrances like a 24 hour shop.
Nonsense, most of Glasgow is decent now, a lot of regeneration has gone on, the Gorbals and the Gallowgate prime examples. There’s only a few areas left like this, hopefully they’ll get around to sorting out Possil soon.
That's crazy. I remember years ago, correct me if I'm wrong but Cranhill in Glasgow had a lower life expectancy for men than Iraq did during the War. It was 58 years old for men in Iraq and 57 in Cranhill

Drinking yourself into oblivion is also seen as a badge of honour Not much will change unless attitudes change

Off the Top of Ma Heid, Out of Area: 1) Toryglen-Prospecthill Circus Scheme 2) Barrowfield 3) Maryhill-The WHOLE Area. I Do Think We Delivered to Possil and Possilpark. Runs 21 and 22, but Let Me Ask one of My Aulder Former Colleagues. As I’m VERY Aware Saracen Street was WILD back Then as a Close Family Member is in The Police and it was NOT a Favourite Posting. I Do Recall a ‘Hibs Supporters Bus’ Coming Unstuck back from Firhill at The Traffic Lights next to that Pub I’m Sure, when ‘The Young Team’ Attacked It. Manchester born and mostly bred. i Love Scotland and the Scots, great people and great place. lived there for the second half of first year back in eighty three when i was eleven. there was another English lad went to the same school and he got bullied something rotten whilst i got left alone even made a few friends although i still managed to learn what prejudice feels like. i put the fact i didn't get physically bullied down to two things, one we lived in a touring caravan parked on a local park so maybe they probably thought we were more pikey than English and two, big Sister Vicky is hard as nails she never lost a fight when we were growing up. haven't seen her since she turned sixteen i only Hope she got a grip on her temper as she grew into adulthood and had kids of her own. another thing i learned at school in Scotland having just done "bonnie prince charlie" from start to finish in Manchester before we moved north i did it again there from start to finish and so the lesson was that history as taught to us in school is propaganda and no more than that. but yh i do Love Scotland, and i don't think i ever met a Scot living in England that i didn't like, great people, salt of the earth...
In Airdrie not far from Glasgow our council has pulled down all blocks of flats & the high stories bar one . They were an eyesore & new housing schemes have replaced them & what a big difference to the landscape . Those Africans youths ain’t Scot’s font know why your giving them the time of day tbh
Quite a notorious (to say the least) and interesting area from the stories I got told from people who lived about there. A stones throw away from where I used to live.
Certainly not the worst video I've ever watched, but it was rather anticlimactic. I'd hoped for more interviews and maybe like information and random wee facts sbout the area etc. Could've had the same experience just using google street view, but being said the video is high definition, sound is clear enough and it wasn't too long given the type of content contained. 6/10 👍
Ruining their own homes and areas ...shameful .. wheres the civic pride , ambition , morality and optimism ... This young generation are nihilistic ...
I grew up here and was a bus driver here most of my life and can assure you most people are good and will do you a good turn before doing you a bad turn. The pubs are very friendly and fights are very rare. The Government could do more to help young people gain technical skills if they aren't academically minded. The glass bus stops that cost thousands of pounds to replace every month in Glasgow has been happening for 25 + years you would think they would make them out of stone or something.
I had no idea this was even a rough area. I'm not from Glasgow and I live just up the road from here and around here all the time. I think it's quite nice, got some lovely spots close by
I grew up there and it was the heroin capital of Europe in the 80's and 90's. Most of the old closes and houses have been demolished now. Should've seen it back then it was wild man.

@@arronblack67 yeah the last time I was up there was in 2009 and it looked a lot different to when we used to go up as kids. All the old flats had been ripped down. A tough place but I’ve worked with a lot of really good guys from Possill. Like many of these areas there’s a lot of decent people in there. Like your videos Billy have a good time in Glasgow 👍🏻
At least you actually get in the heart of these towns and cities and mingle with the crowd. Most of these youtubers have channels with titles like 'visiting the roughest pub in luton' they will visit the pub in the afternoon and the pubs are always quiet 😅. I enjoy your videos mate from one scouser to another. 👍
Same here, use to run up to Rutherglen (Bullet Express) in my Truck 3 times a week ....................
Always a massive pizza waiting for me when i arrived with my trailer
Great lads Great memories up there 👍👍👍👍
I hope you didn't nick the cars lad.

Possil's no as bad as it looks, a lotta good people come from there 💯
Darn right
It is *every* bit as bad as it looks. And not doubting there's a lot of good folk in Possil, but reality cant be denied, it's fuckin grim.
Spent a bit of time up in Possil. Never felt anything but a good welcome. Made to feel comfortable. Unlike other parts of Glasgow the boys up here never expected you to become involved in any of their community violence. Very considerate and from both sides too. Strange but also very much respect for outsiders. I was brought up only a few miles away so not immune to the ‘activities’ 😏
So respect to ma man Tam Dott and to Gofer and all the troops. Hope yer doing okay troops. ✊✌️
I like Glasgow as well , least you know where you stand with the locals. Long as your not a beast, grass or loudmouth they are sound. They don't like or seem to stand for bullies either, which I respect.

All the very best to Liverpool!
What's the book called please?.
Very similar to Milton billy. Just up the road. Where my childhood was. Never forget yer roots
Never forgetting your routes is a great way to get around.
Especially the bus routes etc
Mine too! People make these places out to be the worst when in fact it was a great place to live. Don't know what it's like now though.
I never felt unsafe, would have walked the streets in the middle of the night and not worried. I have a lot of great memories of Milton
It’s not the council who put the rubbish over the fence , it’s the people who live there 7:43
Not always. There’s a huge amount of commercial fly tipping in these areas too.
Well this has certainly opened up a debate and a mixture of people’s thoughts.
Great content Billy.
W0W, I am of Glaswegian heritage & people forever ask me y I left Scotland & I now have a visual explanation; when asked in future I will point people in the direction of this blog & let them c 4 themselves!!
They think it's all bagpipes, lochs, glens and the highlands. Which are great (well maybe not bagpipes) but there's also another side.
I’ve never been to Liverpool bill so maybe you can tell me, but I assume, Liverpool and Glasgow are the same type of city and people hard working tough people that love a laugh! Possil is dangerous that Saracen bar is wild good to see you in the ends!

Dunno you Billy, but your style of reporting is reality. The main stream media doesn't represent any truth for normal people. You were accepted in Glasgow because people treat people as they want to be treated. The same as Liverpool. I lived on Shiel Road in the Newsham park guest house for a year. Exactlt the same. People were not rich but respected each other. No liberties. Love your content. Keep it real mate🏴👍

Liverpool like Glasgow is a great place for a night out
While it's easy to point fingers at local councils for the deprivation we see, the core issues often stem from the actions and attitudes of the people themselves. A stronger sense of community and personal responsibility could address many of these problems, however, due to the rising poverty and the relentless barrage of globalism that is creating more division and weakening our local communities, these issues are only going to get worse - The UK is fucked.
I need a hour of this Billy
So many young lives lost in that area , RIP Tommy Bhoy
Good to hear some passion Bill when you mentioned the government and councils it's sickening but if we all pull together we won't need them. There is a saying, 'Be the change you want to see in the world' councils and governments are too busy dividing and trying to control it's people hence the reason why we are where we are. And now they have turned their attention to housing and funding clothing and feeding others to drive the final dagger into their own people.
Just subscribed you're channel buddy some great vids keep up the good work 💯💯💯👍👍👍

Nonsense, most of Glasgow is decent now, a lot of regeneration has gone on, the Gorbals and the Gallowgate prime examples. There’s only a few areas left like this, hopefully they’ll get around to sorting out Possil soon.

@@williamcassidy9755 I hear folk often blame the government and yeah they are responsible to an extent but mainly it’s down to the people.

Another great video Billy.
Great little film 👍

Ruining their own homes and areas ...shameful .. wheres the civic pride , ambition , morality and optimism ... This young generation are nihilistic ...
civic pride , ambition , morality and optimism about what?
I grew up here and was a bus driver here most of my life and can assure you most people are good and will do you a good turn before doing you a bad turn. The pubs are very friendly and fights are very rare. The Government could do more to help young people gain technical skills if they aren't academically minded. The glass bus stops that cost thousands of pounds to replace every month in Glasgow has been happening for 25 + years you would think they would make them out of stone or something.
I had no idea this was even a rough area. I'm not from Glasgow and I live just up the road from here and around here all the time. I think it's quite nice, got some lovely spots close by
