What a wild concept this one was. Everything Everywhere all at once was a ride like no other. Some say this was the true Multiverse of Madness that we needed. The message alone in this movie that the writers put out is simply awesome! We were still thinking about this one days later. The power this movie delivers is real Hope you all had a chance to watch the Full Movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. Treat yourself if you can.
Plot:
Everything Everywhere All at Once” follows Evelyn Wang (Yeoh), a woman drowning under the stress of her family’s failing laundromat, her ailing marriage to Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) and the elderly father (James Hong) who disapproves of her life choices. But it’s the widening gulf between Evelyn and her daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) that threatens to unravel the fabric of existence as she learns that she’s just one in a vast multiverse of Evelyns - and the only one who can save it. And to add to this, Jamie Lee Curtis is fantastic in it as well!

Just a note on one of the last points you made, I think Gonggong accepted Becky so quickly because through all the multiverse it's the first time he's seen Joy care about someone. She is so nihilistic as Jobu that he might not have thought her capable of being in love with someone, but finding that she is, might have changed his mind about her. Its after that that he tries to help save Jobu as well.

In the end, Evelyn didn't want to be in any universe but hers, because in those universes, there was no Joy in them.

not necessarily, but that is a good thought. If there were no other Joys, how is she experiencing all these universes at the same time? Where is she tapping into for the costume changes? She'd have no power if there were only one left. Evelyn had alternative life paths where she was successful AND had Joy, hence the alpha universe where Evelyn was a brilliant scientist and pushes her own daughter too far.

Hearing Joy say 'Nothing matters' in Everything and Evelyn say the same thing, but with a different conclusion... beautiful and I cried a lot. 'Nothing matters so we can choose what does matter. and I choose you.' Tears. So many tears.

What’s depressing, is that Gonggong never cared or replied to Evelyn when she tried to reach out to him in the past (phone call when she was pregnant) Only appearing in her life when he needs to be taken care of.
Imagine having to take care of the person who has hurt and abandoned you.
Near the end of the movie, in one of the many universes she goes through, there's the director of the movie on a zoom call literally editing the movie 😂 A very pleasant surprise this movie was!

I watched this movie with my autistic 17 year old daughter. She is incredibly smart and constantly corrects my English. I often feel like I've failed her as a mother due to my having PTSD. We fight often but I've always told her I've never wanted any other daughter. She's my porcupine who doesn't like to be hugged and struggles with feelings and I never want to be anywhere without my porcupine. My mother is 77 and doesn't understand autism. I have to set boundaries when it comes to how she talks to and about my daughter This movie is phenomenal. My daughter understood it right away and it means a lot to both of us. I just dropped my daughter off at University of Southern California this week. I had to move to LA since she's unable to drive and wanted me nearby as support. I really didn't want to move to LA. But again, I love my porcupine more than anything else so...
Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for being the best mom you can be for your porcupine! I have both friends and family with autistic children and and familiar with some of the struggles they face. Please don’t ever feel like a failure if you’re doing the best you can. I love this story. And I love how you call your daughter your "porcupine". It reminds me of the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer's "hedgehogs dilemma". A metaphor about how hedgehogs want to cuddle for warmth but can't get too close lest they prick each other with their quils. Getting close to others make us vulnerable, and sometimes it hurts, but it's worth it for the warmth and companionship.

There are so many parallels you notice in a rewatch. like how she killed that cop by making him explode into confetti, she was tapping into the pinata universe and essentially switched them and turned him into his pinata self. He says the "story of a girl" lyrics and then the song is playing in the background in another scene, so it's talking about how maybe what we say is a lyric somewhere out there in another reality.
And many many others!
Oh, I did not connect the confetti and piñata… hmmm…
The song plays in the background multiple times and is different depending on the universe. The singer actually collaborated with the Daniels and rewrote it himself. When the script was written one of them wrote the scene and remembered those words were from something, so he googled it lol
One version is of the songs is "Story of a Chef" in the Racacoony verse and another is "Story of a Dom" in the BDSM verse
The Googly eye is the inverse of the bagel. Like ying yang. Nothing matters:( vs nothing matters:)
For a latino gay man with a bad relationship with his parents this movie destroyed me, but it made make an attempt to a least have a better communication with them cause like Joy i just wanted to be left alone and be as far from them as possible, and even thou it still needs some work, i can now visit and talk to my parents like a normal person and that is all that i wanted and it was this movie that motivated me to do so.

There is some really clever foreshadowing mixed into the absurdity and chaos of this film. The first time Evelyn verse jumps she has to tell Deidre that she loves her, because Deidre thinks she's unlovable, and that's ultimately how Evelyn helps her in the end. Showing her that she's not.
And when Gonggong wants to shoot Joy in the office, Evelyn speaks with Waymond's voice, because that's how Joy is saved. By Evelyn learning to think and fight with kindness, like Waymond.
The kung fu master said “kung fu isn’t just about combat, even this cookie can be kung fu”, combat represents Alpha Waymond who taught Evelyn how to verse jump and gain combat skills and cookies represent the current Waymond who gives cookies to Deidre despite Deidre being mean, thus cookies represent Waymond and how he fights with kindness
as part of the chinese diaspora, this movie made me feel all types of feelings

Yup, the Daniels realized the words were from a song after writing the scene, so they ended up collabing with the singer. He rewrote different versions for different universes, including "Story of a Chef" and "Story of a Dom". Even the one heard in the car is a country rendition to symbolize heartache.

“Kinda brutal honesty. And kinda harsh.. kinda insulting” welcome to having an Asian parent bruhs lol but for real, so glad you guys watched this. Definitely my pick for movie of the year, and being 1st generation Asian American, watching this put me through a lot of emotions that I didn’t realize I’d be able to look back on and understand now that I’m older. The pain I’ve had from how my parents raised me had me severely almost concerningly relate to Joy and the pain she felt and the idea of generational trauma and trying to break the cycle. Thank you guys for watching this ❤️

@@DanteRU0312 true, there is a lot of trauma, regardless of whether we understand our families have good intentions. Change is slow though, and to some degree we owe it to them to forgive them for it. Like based on how they were brought up, how could they really know different? Sure they can watch movies, and see other examples, but internally, it's really hard for them to come to terms with the idea that they are harming us. To do that, they kind of have to look through their own life and admit to themselves that they are hurt, and they never got a chance to confront that for themselves. So they go through their entire lives believing that trauma is normal, they just call that living, they don't even realize they're hurt, and that that internal pain can affect those around them. It's pretty much exactly what Evelyn is dealing with in this movie. She never admitted to herself that it was wrong for her father to let her go the way he did, and that seemingly small, ancient moment that clearly no one else is really thinking about directly is impacting her relationship with her daughter decades later. But like the movie shows us, you just keep trying, try to keep them because they're your family. Like Oak said, have faith in them that they have the ability to change, and that they care enough about you to try.

What's most impressive about this film is they made REALLY heavy concepts like Nihilism, depression, and suicide ideation digestible in a way that any viewer could relate to.
And Absurdism! They gave us a healthy dose of philosophical concepts in this movie ☺
You know, I've finally realized after rewatching this several times, the Alpha Joy, becoming Jobu means that in that universe that Joy was the "worst Joy", the one that failed at everything. Because Alpha Weymond said that in order for the mind to be able to handle all those and access all possibilities they had to be from the universe where every choice was the "wrong" choice. And then Joy at the end tells her mom, "Why wouldn't you choose to be in a place where your daughter is better than this", "this" being "me". So Jobu's Joy was a Joy that failed at everything, in a universe where her mother was the ultimate genius, and she went looking for the one universe where her mom failed at everything just like her. So she was looking for someone who's an ultimate failure like her to tell her there's an upside, a reason to go on, that she couldn't see.
So no matter where you are in the multiverse, where you are in existence, by becoming everything everywhere all at once, no matter how high you are, you get the feeling of your worst low, at all times and your worst low gets to see first hand at all times all that you'll never have.
So nothing you've ever done matters, and nothing you ever did mattered.

At first i thought jobu started being jobu because she wanted to find a better mother, a mother who understands her and in the same position as her(forcing her to "break her claypot" so she experience the same thing as her thats why jobu said "so close" when evelyn first died) and also she was afraid of jumping through the bagel alone thats why she got mad when Evelyn decided to stay because once again her mother let her down

Since she was looking for the “worst” one, just like her, her mother let her down because even her worse her was “better” than her.
That’s why she ripped her hand away and told her to just stop, and wanted to leave. It was a feeling of, “even her worst her, even the version of her that failed at everything, wouldn’t understand me, and is better than me”. Even the worst one instead of going evil, found hope.
It took her mother instead of saying like, “you’re not that bad”, it took her being honest and telling that she truly wasn’t the best, but that she still loved her for Joy to come around. That it all didn’t matter, and that if nothing mattered, then all her failures, all her mess ups, didn’t matter too. That she still wanted to spend time with her, even if it was just some “small specks of time”.
It parallels with the end. Her business is failing. The IRS is auditing her. She’s failed at every attempt to make her life better.
But nothing matters. She looks at her husband next to her, her daughter is healthy and went with her. Her dad is there. And all those problems are so insignificant, so unimportant, that she even loses focus and enjoys that small speck of time where everything makes sense. All that she’s ever gone through was so that she would be right there, in that moment.
The “best her” lost both her husband and daughter. Her rich her had neither.
All those bad choices brought her to that brief speck of time, and she enjoyed it. Smiled. And then reality brought her back again and she asks the IRS agent to repeat herself.
It’s crazy seeing this comment on so many videos… Jobu is not the “worst” Joy, nor is the Evelyn who created Jobu the “best” one. Your fanfic was kinda entertaining to read, not on every video though. Especially when it wants to be taken as fact, which it’s not.
I think we need to recognize that she had customer oriented parties where she served food and had karaoke. Those were legit business expenses.

Oak was DEAD SILENT the whole reaction, he was really paying attention and getting the message of the movie
Oak's a big and kind of quiet guy but he seems deeply emotionally intelligent. Out of all of the crew he seems to understand the more intricate movies the most and really connect with them
This movie is a Masterpiece, and when you realize that was made with only 25 miliion dollars, that's really impressive. The VFX crew was only 7 people + the directors. Amazing.
Initially, the directors offered Jackie Chan (68) the lead role, which he turned down.
Subsequently, the directors cast Michelle Yeoh (60) and Ke Huy Quan (51) and gender-swapped the story.
The mother-daughter dynamic is more compelling than the father-daughter or father-son dynamic.
I've been paying attention to movies for 60+ years and in production and concept this is the most astonishing work of film art I've seen this century.
It’s so refreshing to see a reaction channel comprised of a group of dudes and you don’t spend the entire intro and outro and most of the reaction a ‘yelling-over-each other’ match.

This movie was coming home to Thanksgiving dinner after eating only take-out food during college: you realize that just because you can survive off of - and enjoy! - processed foods (remakes, sequels, etc.) you just need some good homemade food now and then. A good movie with excellent effects and dialogue and one of the best messages makes for one of the best meals in a while for me.

I was lucky enough to get to see this on it's release to theatres. I experienced every single emotion watching this film. I never applauded at movies... I did at this one.
One of the best films I have ever seen.
As a person who has autism and struggles with maladaptive daydreaming this movie is the only movie I've ever felt so connected to ❤️
fun fact: when evelyn said that she confuses he and she, and that it's the same in mandarin, it's both true and not true. spoken, he, she, and it are all 'ta', like she said. but written, they are slightly different :)

The first part of the movie are full of moments like that, such as Evelyn saying that Joy might cause her grandfather to have a heart attack and then when Joy says something similar it's not cool; or Evelyn being lost in fantasy looking at the TV while her husband dances joyously.

An underlying theme that gets missed out of this amazing movie is the suicide/"going to the dark side" aspect of Joy and her family trying to save her.
So glad you reacted to this. One of the best movies of the last decade. This is real cinema. A profound, almost spiritual experience for me, wondering about the very many paths the other mes out there could have taken. Dr Strange MOM is entertainment. EEAAO is a masterpiece.

I noticed, for a while toward the end, The Oak was just silent while the others laughed. I read it as him being in deep thought, engrossed by the movie. I think his analysis at the end confirmed that for me. It was powerful, and I really appreciate his input and wisdom as I watch your guys' reactions. I think it is absolutely true that older people DO understand more than we give them credit for, as many of them may also be less open minded. Thank you.
I watched this WITH my Mom and neither of us knew what we were in for. I had one of my Truly Vulnerable Moments, which I can count on one hand, and wept on her shoulder, because she was raised with Southern Baptist "Wash Your Face" Stoicism. We were back to "normal" very soon, but it was a good airing out of sadness.

You should recognize Michelle Yeoh. Fantastic action actress (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) shows how wonderfully gifted an actress she is. Every mother daughter gets it.
I always love the oak’s commentary. I’ve been watching this channel constantly for a bit now and the oak never fails to give a heartfelt and impactful message that shows how much he appreciated the story of each movie. This movie makes me cry and laugh and cry again in over a couple of seconds, Truly an amazing movie.
It is the funniest thing when a reactor is more horrified by the paper cuts than the butt plug. This is my favorite movie I've seen in a long time.
Its been a while since i've watched a movie that has taken my breath away. Couldn't hold back my tears. One of my favorite movies aside from The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Love yalls reactions and cant wait to see what you guys react to next.

It was a much smaller team than you think it was. For example the special effects team was just 5 people on a high end home computer. Everybody involved went above and beyond to ensure that this film was the thing it became because they had so much pride in what they were creating.
The first time I watched this movie, I went into it thinning it was a sci-fi hero film.....and I was confused.
The second time I watched it, I viewed it as a family drama and it was SOOOOO good! The multi-verse was just a vessel to tell the family story.
I love this movie and y'alls reaction is as always the best!

The Oaks story about grandfather and grandson is so beautiful and wholesome. We are an individual with Dissociative Identity Disorder and we have lots of trauma around family, so it's good to know decent families exist. Love yallz channel!
I finally got to watch this movie on an airplane a couple of weeks ago and I went through all the emotions. It is such a fun, outrageous, funny, beautiful, and heartwarming movie. I truly loved it
This movie has such levels of stupidity, humor, ridiculousness, action, heartache, emotion, and scifi; all while still remaining relatable and layered. Definitely a 5/5

I’d suggest watching cast, director, and crew interviews to learn more about how they made this movie. It’s so fascinating. If I remember correctly, it was filmed pre-pandemic and then edited during the pandemic. Everything was done with small crews (fx, editing, etc.) and a lot of them didn’t have much or any experience working on something of this size before (usually worked on music videos, etc.). The fight choreographers (the two butt plug guys) are the Le brothers, Andy and Brian, and they got their start on RUclips. Andy also played Death Dealer in Shang-Chi (the masked guy in blue who taught Shang to fight as a kid). Brian is the bald security guard in this movie.
Then, of course, there’s Ke’s return to acting and Michelle finally getting the kind of role that she’s been waiting for her entire career. Stephanie Hsu is amazing in this movie, Jamie Lee is obsessed with it (just check her socials) and James Hong is still killing it at 93. A bunch of other Asian American actors raised money this year and he finally has a much deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after a decades long career and being in over 650 films, tv shows, and video games.
To me this movie was about suicide, and having something to live for. When u think about life , really that we’re specks on earth and all that, I definitely feel that nothing matters. And u spiral and spiral…into a bagel and suicide potentially. But he idea that nothing matters, so just do what makes you HAPPY , fight like Waymond fights through his grueling life, by being kind, by being happy even though it SUCKS. I was sobbing in the theaters bc I have wanted to go into the bagel so many times and I’ve never had an Evelyn to pull me out, but this movie became my Evelyn. It means so much it me truly
