Teresa Alber z thank you Teresa....the pattern will be available in my Etsy shop.... www.etsy.com/shop/briarcottage. It becomes easy when you do it a couple times... thank you for your kind comment. Kate
That’s what the back is supposed to look like?!😁 I just started this craft of punch needle and you have given my something to strive for. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.
That's an interesting way to stitch the backing on. I've never done it like that, but will try it. It makes sure that you get all layers in your stitches. Nice job. :) I just started making punch needle videos also.
I love this finishing technique! I just purchased one of your printed patterns. Can you tell me the correct needle diameter to use for 3 strand floss. Thank you
I assume you are working with an ultra punch, I am not sure which needle is the three strand needle in Ultra punch, they are larger than the CTR needles in diameter. You want your needle diameter to just fit the three strands of embroidery floss not to snug not to loose...It should just run smoothly through the needle. Hope this helps. Kate
Great tutorial! I am just getting started in punch needle and watching all the videos I can 😉 Thanks For Sharing. I’m a new subscriber too:) Hugs, Judy ❤️
Wonderful work, I enjoyed each of your videos, My problem is when I'm done I have no idea on how to display them. Could you do a tutorial on mounting, framing, etc. 💜
I’ll see what I can do! In the interim take a look at Pinterest, the various punch needle groups, Instagram etc. there are lots of wonderful ideas out there. Thank you for your kind words. Kate
I’m making my team’s logo about 10” wide to put on the back of a jacket. Kind of like a letterman’s jacket in high school. Do you have any advice to make sure that it will last longer?
Hi Jill, The old letters for letter jackets were actually punched. Cool right? I think a little fabric glue on the back will help with the wear. Good luck with it. That’s a undertaking for you what about 15 of them wow! Kate
Kate Gillery thank you soo much for the advice! I’m just starting on this new hobby of punch needle embroidery. I bought the cameo and floss along time ago but was always hesitant about actually getting started. Your videos were an absolutely inspirational find! I’ll eventually have to do way more than 15 patches though since this is a roller derby team. I just started to learn how to skate this year after not being on skates for at least 35 years (think combo of 2nd childhood/midlife crisis meets a great group of people with limitless encouragement & enthusiasm!) Thank you again for the videos and the advice!
Thank you S. It is possible to use the unfinished side as the right side. You have to watch the direction you are punching..keep the punches going in the same direction. Embroidery floss has a slight shine example: punching the background if your punching up and down, stay punching up and down dont go sideways or the shine will change and you will see! Experiment on a scrap....you 'all see. Thanks again
It's weavers cloth, using one strand to three strand CTR needles. Please watch the other videos it will explain my method of punching. Monks cloth is for yarns using oxford needles.
@@kategillery5001 oh no I think I’m doing it wrong 😱 I’m using Lavor needles on monks cloth and using fine weight Ice yarns. I’m just a beginner to punch needle craft.
@EDCxFamCrew there is no wrong! If it is working for you, then it's not wrong. It all depends on what you're looking for. My work is very detailed, so I use small needles. Smaller needles-tighter cloth. If you're looking for a larger size design, then you go with larger needles, threads and more open weave cloth. Hope this makes sense.
Casey, that would be hard to answer without seeing it...maybe the snips are not close enough to the loops. Maybe it just needs ironed quick on the front..mostly on the back. Hope one of these helps
Terry Christens ... If your gluing to a box or board, sure! To secure the loops never. Three strand loops are punched fairly close together. I don’t believe there is is a need for it. It’s really a personnel preference.
Wool backing, is just that.... a flat piece of 100% wool fabric. Used most often in rug hooking to make the strips and also wool appliqué work. It is readily sold on Etsy in many beautiful hand dyed colors. . It can be torn in a straight line to fit the back of your piece. It is also felted during the dying process so it doesn’t Frey, you don’t have to turn the edges under to form a hem like many other fabrics, so it works well for backing your punch. Enjoy your new venture.....Kate
It does, I also do rug hooking and rug punch there are a few patterns in my Etsy shop. I have so many hobbies that I love. Watercolor and sketching are my absolute favorite. Hope I answered your question satisfactorily. Kate
PS....yes they get more expensive as the get larger...hooking on linen and wool strips are even more. All hobbies are expensive...especially in these trying days. I still believe they are a big part of life....Enjoy what you do! Kate
Hi Kate...would you do this same kind of finish on a three dimensional punched piece? I finished my first (easy piece) thanks to your tutorials! I don't know if you have seen the pumpkins on the cover of Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine but I thought they would be super easy for my first project. She has you sew and turn them, then stuff them but I was kind of afraid to do it that way, would you recommend doing it as you do in the video or should I sew & turn? I always appreciate your help! Also, I didn't see the weavers cloth at your etsy store and at Joann's it is out of stock, where do you recommend finding it? Have a great weekend and thank you for any help! Dora
I dont see why you could use this method...I think it needs to be round not square or rectangular. Turning and making a mat is my favorite finish. But each is individual tastes. I dont think Joanne's is carrying weavers cloth any more. But you can always find it somewhere online. It is getting harder to find. I did buy a bunch of different fabrics from Joanne's to give them a try, when I get a chance. Keep an eye on my blog..I'll post results there and probably on Facebook. I hope you enjoyed your first punch and the process of learning. Kate
@@kategillery5001 Thank you for all the information! Yes, I enjoyed it very much, punched a little too dense so I'm working on another one trying to punch a little looser this time...loving the three strand method though! Thanks again! Dora
OMG!! Your work is unbelievable!! The back looks as beautiful as the front!! I loved the way you finished it off...again, Unbelievable!!!
Thank you for watching and your kind comments, Nutmeg!
Your videos are the best. New to punching and the way you explain and show just is the best. I wish you had more content. But thanka for these!

Your so welcome. Enjoy!
What cloth material are you using for embroidery?
I actually use the left over weavers cloth, since I do mainly punch needle. Kate
I use a skewer to hold the edge, and avoid burning my fingers.
Thank you Merrilyn...what a great idea!
Hi what cloth type was used? I’m using a monk’s cloth. But i like what you used 😊

Will this using acrylic yarn ?
All my punch needle patterns are punched using 1,2 & 3 strands of embroidery Floss. Hope this answers your question. Kate
