“Every performance has someone who’s watching drum corps for the first time” was something I thought about while on tour quite a bit. I remember my first drum corps moment quite fondly! Like a lot of my peers in drum corps. BAND
I didnt know you had a girl my man i hope u have a long healthy relationship with plenty of good times and good memories also i remember to seeing you and emc when I was doing my last year of WGI with Clear Brook High School in 2022 before the move to world-class and also seeing your age out year in 2019 i havent been keeping up with your vids as much as i used to but im glad to know you still post much love from friendswood texas❤✌
The DCI show date has always been the yardstick of how much a lady actually understands me versus simply tolerates me. She’s a keeper, dude! 🤙🏼 Edit: I freaking died at the end. The “final thoughts” were almost verbatim from the trip to Semis last year with my girl. “Hard seats…how the hell do you sit for so long…can we walk around more…we need to leave and get real food next time…😅 We got married a month ago.
Back in 2019 I met a girl online, we both attended the same college (for engineering) but didn't know each other at the time. When we began talking, I learned that even though she was an engineer, she had a background in choir and even sang with the local church and symphony orchestra. I described my musical background (HS Marching Band, Carolina Crown 2007 and 2008) as "I'm a brass player". At the time, I was marching with AtlantaCV as a 32 year old because I wanted to get back into the activity I love so much and be more physically active. I would leave for rehearsal wearing super short shorts, a water cooler, backpack, hat, etc. She had no idea what I was doing- she figured it was like a sit down orchestral thing. Fast forward to DCI Atlanta, I had tickets for her and my mom and some friends. AtlantaCV performed very early in the day. She thought it was the coolest thing. After the performance she kept talking my ear off about "what was this/that", "how is this scored?", "junior corps?" It was great. I kept telling her to keep watching because the corps get even more insane through out the show. When Carolina Crown came on, naturally, I went ape shit. Goosebumps, tears, the works. The whole time I'm watching the performance, shes watching me. We got married in 2022. Sharing this part of my life with someone on the outside of it all was really something special.
A few years ago I was also in a school band in Guatemala, I watched Bluecoats on RUclips, it was always my dream to be there. Now my life has changed, my plans and goals are different, but I always continue to see Bluecoats, one day I would like to personally support them in a DCI final, I will fight to achieve it. Thanks for sharing the content. Greetings. P.S. I love Down Side Up.
I am dumbfounded at the fact you casually went to warren central HS to watch the blue coats rehearse. I live in Central Indiana, and when I see drum corps rehearsing at these schools I freak for a second because I'm used to going to these schools for sporting events and what not. And when drum corps come to Indy it feels so surreal like why here out of all places.
I saw my first drum corp show last year. My daughter marched with Memphis Blues. She is trying out for their drum major tomorrow. 😀 Side note Jenny works as the blue coat color guard staff she also works at our high school McCracken County Kentucky
Ironically, my wife (of now 16+ years) had a very similar experience when we met. She was a violin player who had no idea what drum corps was. Anyway, one of our first dates was to a DCI show in Portland, OR. It happened to be a year when SVC come up from CA. Anyway, she loved the theatre aspects of performance and really enjoyed her first show. Fast forward to 2008 when I was marching with the Cavaliers Alumni corps. This was her first exposure to watching a rehearsal. At the end of the day, she pulled me aside and said. "I had no idea what drum corps meant to you until I watch 150+ old(er) men smiling ear to ear all while working their butts off trying to perfect the show." She thought it was so cool to see the enjoyment on our faces as we were all having a blast in 90 degrees heat. Over the years since then, She's supported me being on staff with the Oregon Crusaders as well as a board member for 5 years. We used to go to finals as often as we could, but now, living in Nevada and life's mysterious paths we are walking down have made it harder to go. Maybe in a few years we can venture across America to see finals. For now, the Sacramento show and maybe a southern CA show in the near future.
It seems to me like DCI is like a lot of other sports. You're not fully into it until your kids are participating in it. Then you are invested 100%-plus.
At some lots you can't have a met blaring and have to click sticks. The drum set replace stick clicking and provides a cool groove. Someone else correct me if I am wrong.
"In the middle of Indiana... somehwere." The most "I'm going to DCI finals" quote ever.

MBI is fielding a full field show next year. We'd love to see you back, bud. Glad to see you're doing well.

Very cool getting to meet you before the Bloo lot 💪
This is really cool
Drum go boom!
Sat two rows in front of you two at LOS! Love your videos!
So we were at the same place again. Awesome video Kyle
What’s scary is that I recognized that hotel hallway as the alumni corps hotel BEFORE you said anything.
FUN
Common Kyle and Sara W🙌🏼
How many pictures did you end up taking with people 😂

Slay

Awww her first DCI Finals but you only got there in time for the final 5 performances? 😢
LFG
I was watching this and he just said my highschool name and it caught me off gaurd
Brass guy here and DCI Vet. Honest question, why the drum set for the battery warmup? I find it distracting, but that just could be me.

I uploaded a video a few weeks back that touches on this!
