    Nice to be able to work in a room temperature, dry indoor workspace.

    Crazy scale to these things. Makes you realize how deep the sh*t would be that we’d be in if/when a Carrington event or EMP takes out some significant number of these.

    • @alexg9727
      @alexg9727 7 месяцев назад +2

      An EMP would not affect the transformers, rather the switching equipment inside the substations. Most of the equipment inside these substations is so heavily shielded that an EMP wouldn't even reach the inside of the building

    • @alexg9727
      @alexg9727 7 месяцев назад

      massive metal walls and enclosures with grounding mostly wont allow the power to touch the equipment

    • @dazt5831
      @dazt5831 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@alexg9727 did not work for 1989 quebec though, in a large solar flare we would likely lose a significant amount of tranformers globally as the current is induced in all of the wiring so shielding the transformer won't save it from the electrical current, over the last 10 years we have seen dozens of transformers of this size lost to small solar flares when compared to a carrington sized event

    • @dazt5831
      @dazt5831 5 месяцев назад +1

      exactly, people don't realise but these transformers are not designed/shielded in a way to take an induced electrical current from the effects of a large solar flare, in the solar storms we had in may there were several hundred transformers melted/burned out across the planet and they were from small solar flares but were able to induce enough charge through the copper cabling that it destroyed the transformers

    Wow that is one huge factory. Wish there had been some English narration without the "music". Very interesting video with great closeups.

    These giant 3 phase transformers are VERY VERY noisy when 1st tested in air , ( before their final immersion in oil ! ) ... the oil acts as very good insulation / coolant , and cuts down the noise to a low hum ............ DAVE™🛑

      I was gonna guess Cooper power systems until the German came up as they made medium to big distribution transformers. The biggest ones were single phase 230kv to 125kv used as a set of 3. That way if something bad happens to one they can swap out the bad one without a huge oversized load that shuts down the freeway.❤

    Ого. Я уже подумал, что какое-то европейское производство - на столько не похоже на сборки у нас) Рад, что есть где-то культура производства, чистенько, не спеша, с толком с расстановкой. Хотя стоит сделать скидку на штучный товар - такие трансы не частое явление.

      oil for sure can see the radiators and its windings have ducts for oil to flow through. I worked at ABB transformers for 12 years.
