    The problem with this is that people are just proving to retailers that they have scads of disposable income to drop on useless items. The same people complaining about high prices are the same people paying $160 for a tumbler. When they see you can afford $160 for a coffee mug, of course they will assume that you can also afford to pay for overpriced grocery products.

His "Stanley" fell onto the tracks, stayed on until the tracks ended, and the Stanley fell out in front of it. He slipped the Stanley into a large envelope and sent it to the company, explaining that the Stanley had been damaged, and explaining how. He wanted a replacement unit. A week later, h got the envelope back, with a note taped to it it said "Unbreakable. not indestructible, go buy a new thermos". they included a 5.00 off coupon.

      Very dumb, blind and want to fit in so bad! i pay attention to things and seen changes in style and the tracking devices (our smart phones) to Apple has a hold on way too many while being anti consumer charging abused prices for less and sued third parties doing what they say "couldn't" do.
      Then pairing basically each part to the motherboard and serialized each part so a simple break is a hassle so you "have to" buy a new one. a battery swap or just swapping the back glass iOS gives those "unknown part" messages so you'll only go to them for fixes! it's evil.

      When I was 12 (in 94) I went through this phase where I was obsessed with skincare and buying matte powders and foundations to try and hide the fact that I had oily skin and my nose was always shiny/oily. I had soaps, lotions, oxy cleanse pads and probably more foundation and powders then my mom. She even bought me some expensive facial cleaners and clay masks from Origins for Christmas back then. I begged her for a $70 matte powder that was only sold at Bloomingdale's but it was never in stock. I had never had a zit in my life but using all those different products on my face actually aggravated my skin and I started getting pimples, lol. I moved on from being obsessed with my skin to being obsessed with my hair then my weight. There was nothing wrong with my skin, hair or weight, but I wanted to be "perfect "All this before I was 13. My friends were like this as well, and adults would blame this and other trends on MTV, supermodels and pop culture in general. There's always going to be something or someone that kids look up to and follow. There are dangerous tiktok challenges that kids are doing and getting injured or even killed doing, but I remember parents blaming wrestling and Beavis and butthead for that stuff in the 90's. Only solution is to monitor what kids watch, and how much they watch. My son gets an hour on RUclips, no tiktok and he has no interest thankfully in any of the other social media apps. However he's still little, I know as he gets into his teens he will be exposed to some of the crap. It's normal to go through trends/phases as kids, but I'll never understand this obsession over a cup, lol. Ultimately I guess it's harmless, I'm sure most of us, at some point drove our parents nuts for something that seemed like a ridiculous waste of money 😂

    I do drink more than 40oz of water a day, on average I drink 90-130 oz per day. However, I do not need a $45 cup to do this. I have a 25oz bottle with a straw that flips up with the click of a button that I paid about $12 for. This bottle will keep my water cold for several hours and is refillable (so I do not need a huge bulky size) I do not know if it will keep my water cold for 2 days, I do not drink water that has been sitting in a container for 2 days.

      Stanley was never a pile of poop, I’ve got a thermos that was made in the 40’s or 50’s that has been on the job now for 3 generations. Stanley was always popular on job sites and for truckers, in fact about the only place you could guarantee to find some Stanley products was the truck stops.

    My teenager looked at me nuts when I said elementary school kids wanted these cups. It isn't a popular thing at her high school school here in California. They would rather have nice shoes and clothes. This same thing happened with the Yeti craze and then the Hydro Flask and will be replaced by something else I am sure.

      It's funny how times have changed. When I was in school you were not allowed to have any type of drink except at lunch and would get fussed at for asking to go to the water fountain during class and told you should have gone between classes somehow. Now my kids have to have their water bottle every day. It is a good change, my default state is slight dehydration because of those years of training it to be, haha, so they will fare better in life. But I make sure that their water bottles 1) do not leak/spill, 2) can fit in that side pocket of their backpacks, and 3) are dishwasher safe short of a few thermos style ones.

      @@FireMrshlBill You weren't allowed to keep a drink with you in school? I was in school in the 80's and 90's and in elementary school I don't recall if we were allowed or not (my kids are now in elementary and they can't carry drinks neither) But by the time I was started middle school we were allowed to carry a water, snapple or even a can of soda. High school we could have coffee or redbull too. That actually sounds cruel that they wouldn't let you bring drinks, lol. I would have been suffering, I was ALWAYS thirsty as a kid and was always carrying around beverages in school.

    • @FireMrshlBill
      @FireMrshlBill 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@winterlynn9012 nope, insane as it sounds these days. Was a 90’s-00’s kid (graduated in ‘03) and if you had a drink open in class you were getting yelled at, told to put it under your seat if lucky or tossed. And especially after columbine, there were a number of years you couldn’t carry a backpack or coat around, would have to keep them in a locker and carry 1-2 periods worth of books in your arms. So couldn’t even stow a drink in a backpack to drink between classes. I think later in high school they may have lifted the backpack rule, but can’t say for sure. But ya, I could go the whole day with just the one drink at lunch and maybe a few sips from a water fountain here and there. They usually did water breaks in PE. They definitely trained us to be good little worker bees. Trying to fit in a water and bathroom break between classes when you have barely 5 min to do that, hit up your locker and get to your class on the other side of the school.

      There are other brands that work exactly the same way, that aren't overpriced. You can even get insulated containers designed for foods instead of drinks. Even if you don't find one that fits a pint carton, you could just scoop the ice cream into an insulated container. Then you could get any brand of ice cream, not just the little cartons.

    It's definitely great marketing. But it's insane to see. The craze about the pink and red ones reminded me of the tickle me Elmo fights and stuff at Christmas time in the 90's.
    The thing is, most of the knockoffs or dupes are just as good. When yetis were big, I bought an Ozark trail (Walmart) dupe bc there was no way I'd spend $50 (still no way) for a cup and it worked just as well.

And my local you have to bring your own cup for drinks. So I have it for ice tea or a fountain soda. I have a smaller insulated cup for coffee because I still don't get having more then 16oz of coffee at a time.

    • @miriamrobarts

      Yeah, but it would be really difficult to make sure your production is ready & often the fad dies as quickly as it started, so then you're stuck with a bunch of product that is old news. It can be great for a company if they know how to prepare for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could bankrupt a company that doesn't know how to plan for it.
      Also, it would be great to make a lot of money, but honestly, I'd be embarrassed to be part of this kind of insanity.
