  • Belgrade was awesome! But it is time to move on. I will leave Belgrade and go to Kragujevac in the south, the fourth biggest city in Serbia. Let's find a bus in Belgrade, head to Kragujevac and get some first impressions about this place! The first couple of hours in a new place are always the most fun for me if I have internet connection. I will just go in any direction, explore, and get navigated back to my room if I get lost. Join me on this next adventure in Serbia, after my time in Belgrade!

Serbia's uncovered gems are the "banja towns" such as Vrnjacka Banja and Bukovicka Banja. They're spa towns and sell local mineral waters like Knez Milos which is fantastic. Topola is where a lot of Serbian monarchs are buried; when I was there foreigners were charged more for admission to the mausoleum. Smederevo is a nice little place, too.

Better towns to visit after Belgrade are Novi Sad, Subotica, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Krusevac, Novi Pazar, Nis. Kragujevac is such a disappointment.

You have stayed in the worst possible part of the city, everything in that "old" part across the river is like a ruine.
Other parts of the city like "Kolonija" and Center are much much better.
I hope you enjoyed your stay in Kragujevac.

The reason for a lot of abandon, old houses most probably is that owners have left Serbia after WWII and local government cannot demolish private property.
