As soon as the track started, I could tell it was from the Fillmore East show. I might have listened to this a couple thousand times. I feel confident enough to say that most die-hard classic rock fans would consider this album one of the top 10 recordings of all time. The entire concert is remarkable...lots of long jam sessions in the middle of songs. The guitar work at this show is face melting.

This song is from the album, “Eat a Peach - Dedicated to a Brother” and was released soon after Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was riding too fast and ran into a truck that had turned left in front of him. Duane said that whenever he was in Georgia he always ate a peach for peace. Sadly, their bassist Barry Oakley was killed about a year after Duane was killed in eerily similar circumstances: on a motorcycle and less than a mile from where Duane was killed, if memory serves. Duane was only 24.

Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore is absolutely on my "Desert Island" Top 5 of all time regardless of Live or Studio - A true masterpiece. If I narrow down to just Live recordings, it's a fight for #2 spot with Stones - Get Yer Ya Yas Out. All of "Fillmore" and most of "Eat a Peach" were recorded during the same tour at the same place. The interaction of 2 Top guitar players and 2 top notch drummers is just a diesel express train rollin' down the tracks.

The vocalist is Gregg Almann - great singer. His older brother is Duane Almann, lead of the band was playing slide guitar. This is considered to be one of, if not the best, live albums of all time. There are two amazing drummers. One they brought over from an famous jazz band. These guys liked each other - they hung out. They were all “brothers”. I think that’s a big part of the magic.
They honestly didn’t fit into one genre. If you listen to more of their music - you’ll see what I’m talking about. Stormy Monday is a beautiful song - but might be too long for your show.

Allman brothers. The Founders of southern rock. Period. Duane Allman, one of the best slide guitar players ever. Dicky Betts, fantastic country and blues player. Greg Allman, incredible voice. All great musicians. Two drummers, Berry Oakley on bass. Lots of tragedy, lots of fame. Check out "Blue sky" and "In memory of Elizabeth reed" Yeah, he's trying to escape in the song.

To Black people, I say thank you. You have given the world the greatest treasure in the music that you have created. If it were not for you the world would not have Rock, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Hip Hop, Country, all the different forms of music in the Caribbean, plus many others. Plus the food, the only original American Cuisine outside of Native American cuisine. Southern cooking, thank you for that too. We owe you so much there is no way we could ever repay you for your contribution to our society.
