I don't just because they're so expensive but have thought about asking my husband to make me some. So I'd love for your husband to do a demonstration of he'd be willing to do one!
This was a super informative video! I use the Riley Blake clappers. If your husband ever decides to make them to sell, I definitely want to be counted in! They are beautiful, too!
I would totally buy clappers from you guys!!! I don’t mind paying the price for quality. I just got 4 new clappers from made by Riley Blake like Lori Holt uses and while they are pretty I feel like they really need to be heavier hence the interest in yours. I love the square design
If we make up a batch I will post to the FB group and here on RUclips. Im curious- can you give me weights on the clappers you have? Im curious about the weight/ inch of lenght type comparison.
This is great! My husband and I have discussed clappers and he said he would be glad to make me some, to just get him the information. So, I’m going to send this video!
Very interesting. I have a few square clappers that I use for my blocks. Love the square ones and use a lot. Maybe you would like them too. Ask your husband. Thanks Kelly
Kelly, I am many, many more years older than you and I started out as a garment sewer. I sewed for myself, my two sons, later, my one daughter and many years later my granddaughters. I also made clothing for my self. You are right! Clappers are used in garment sewing. Mainly in collars, sleaves, cuffs and pockets. The mid 1960's was when I began garment sewing during highschool. I began making quilts in the 1980's and again clappers to the rescue. The "Taylor's Clappers is what I had so they were what I used, and still use just because they were already in my sewing room. You are smart to have made them the way you are now (if you don't do garment sewing) In sewing garments the areas you use them you need them curved and smaller, and as you figured out ...... not so much for quilting!
Would you ever want a square one? Maybe with a handle on top. Use it for the blocks once they are assembled. Thanks for the info! Would love to see a video of him making one!
Hi! first time viewer. I love your clappers. It is a great idea to have a longer one. I do exactly what you said, I line up all the ones I have if I need to. I never thought about weighing them. I am going to that. Even not knowing the weight of my clappers I do find myself using the heaviest ones. Thank you for the video it was very informative. A tutorial on how to make one would be great. I know I could get my husband in the garage to make me one! Another "honey do"! 🤩
I use clappers & have several different sizes & weights the maple does absorb & disperse the heat quicker which does cause the seam to set quicker. Thanks for the info!
Clappers are a game changer and I use them. All I have is 2 but, I’d love to have more. Please get hubby to show us how. I can’t seem to convince my husband to make me any. 😢I need to learn.
Would love to purchase a clapper. Big 15” would be awesome. One of my favorites is a 6” square one. I also really like ones with intention in the middle to help grab the clapper
I still have my original tailor's garment clapper and there is definitely a reason they were shaped the way they were for garment making. For quilting, I think you've come up with a great solution and size, as my clapper is too short for most of the blocks I make. I don't make small, traditional 6" squares most of the time, which most quilter's clappers seem geared toward.
Thank you for your informative video. I would be interested in a clapper or two should your husband should decide to make some. I really enjoy your videos and have learned several things along the way. Thank you for doing them. Have a great holiday weekend.
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your experience. I would love to have some of the clappers. I so enjoy watching you. ❤ I have one that I bought from FQS, by Riley Blake.
Would love a heavy one! My fat seams need all the help they can get, after watching you I bought a clapper but it really needs weight to lay flat on the whole seams and not just float on top of the extra bulky unions
I would love to see your hubby’s process. I have a clapper - it’s actually from a leftover stair post from when we built my sewing cabin. But I’d love to have more. Thanks!
My husband and I went through the same journey! A couple of them bleed with steam so he sandwiched them too. We didn’t have bloodwood but my favorite is red oak and Purple Heart Just don’t drop them on your feet lol
I think we are going to do a how to video for woodworker out there, but I'm hoping to get him to make a few extras for ppl who don't have a wood worker in their life.
This was all quite interesting to me. Why not go to a maple outer and red oak interior? This would definitely be less expensive than the blood wood. There is an Etsy shop that sells just oak clappers. I'm not sure why it's been traditionally maple other than it's least likely to leave any transfer on your fabric. Have your hubby make an oak/maple combo and see how that works.
Ill keep you guys posted, if I can rope him in to making some for sale. Are you on the private FB group? Ill probably post it there as soon as I know something!
Hey I found a shop that specializes in Moda fabric. I have not ordered yet from her, but I am going to see if the quality is the same as FarQuarter. Pastery Shop Quilts
Do you use clappers in your sewing room?
Absolutely!
I definitely do.
Yes. I only have one, but I use it all the time.
Yes! I have 3 sizes that my husband made me out of red oak. I would love to have a longer one like yours. Need to talk to my hubby!😘
I don't just because they're so expensive but have thought about asking my husband to make me some. So I'd love for your husband to do a demonstration of he'd be willing to do one!
I wish my dad was still around, he would have made me clapper! Yours are very pretty.
I've spent so many quality hours in the shop with my dad woodworking. Hold those memories close!
My uncle made me a 12” square clapper that is absolutely beautiful!! It looks like a cutting board with a handle.
@@ginaolive4853 awesome!!

I may have to try some, I feel like Im always running out of room to store things, but then when Im pressing a ton I bet Id love them!

Thank you for all the intell!! Sometimes I guess or assume and you know what they say about that! Lol;) I love reusing items I already have!!
Beautiful work done by your hubby!
Thank you! I think so too!!
Yes I would be interested in purchasing one or two of your clappers?
Kelly, you are fortunate to have such a loving, supportive and talented husband!!!
Aww thank you! Ans yes I really am! He spent more time kn my sewing room bc of the clappers, lol. We both like to be creative!!
Would you ever want a square one? Maybe with a handle on top. Use it for the blocks once they are assembled. Thanks for the info! Would love to see a video of him making one!
@alieb409quilts maybe! I play a lot of tetris already and I'm not sure the big one would be as useful as two skinny ones. But we have talked about it!
Oh yeah and thank you. I really enjoyed your video.❤
So glad you enjoyed it! I love them!
I love my clapper!! My hubby said he'd be willing to watch a tutorial and make me a few more.
Yay!! That's 1/2 the battle!!
Great topic, thanks for the information, makes sense to make them longer. Hope he does the video that way I can show it to my husband and say please😀
I hope so too! He's pretty busy in real life but we will try!

Great video! I would love to see how your husband makes them so that I can encourage my husband to make one for me.
Im working on him!
I LOVE using clappers! I only have a couple but would love to know more about the larger ones that you have. Thank you SO much for sharing this video!
Hoping to get hubby do make us a video!

I will do my very best!!
If your hubby ever decides to make some to sell I would love to purchase a long rectangle one with square ends.
He is ever so talented!!!😊
Same! I’d buy one. Or two.

My hubby made me some heavy oak ones, I love them, very heavy. Game changer for sure. Thanks for sharing.
You bet!

Yes, mine have grooves in the bloodwood part to help pick them up. If we try a square one, I think it will need a handle!
Yes would love to see how they are made
Im hoping I can get him to make us a video, might be a couple weeks though. Hes busy in real life, lol :)
Your hubby did a great job on your clappers. I love clappers.
Thank you!!
Love your clappers. I’m showing my husband this tutorial ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Absolutely I use clappers & like you, I’m very lucky as I have many of them because my husband makes them all for me. 😂
The best! Honey do list was never so important;)
I use clappers all the time and have 4. Your husband does great work and those large ones would be perfect!
I think so too!

That totally make sense. I just have been in a big block thing lately:)
I knew those clappers were special. I line mine up as I need too
I dont think you can ever have too many clappers :)
Thank you for your informative video. I would be interested in a clapper or two should your husband should decide to make some. I really enjoy your videos and have learned several things along the way. Thank you for doing them. Have a great holiday weekend.

Thank you so much! How do you like the Riley Blake one? Is it the large one or the small one?
I love a clapper and they really do a great job flattening seams. I would pay for good quality and loooove the extra long ones.
Ill keep you guys posted, if I can rope him in. Are you on the private FB group? Ill probably post it there as soon as I know something!

I too love to use clappers. Would be interested in adding to my collection but would want the longer ones. 😊
Noted!
I was going to ask my husband to make longer clappers. I like the rectangle shape
They are my favorite for sure!
I keep looking for the Buy Now Link :) :) :) 😝
Hehe! I'm trying to get hubby into making a small batch, but he works a ton in real life;)
I would love to see your hubby’s process. I have a clapper - it’s actually from a leftover stair post from when we built my sewing cabin. But I’d love to have more. Thanks!

We were talking about purple hear today too!!
Thank you ! Would love to see a video how he makes them. Going to ask son about blood wood
Ill keep you guys posted, if I can rope him in. I think I have him convinced to make us a video.
My husband cut a large Acacia wood butcher block into 6 clappers for me. I like them better than the maple.
Awesome!! Can you shoot a pic of it? Over on the FB group?
Yes I do ,would like a longer size to fit the blocks at least 18". Does he sale his. Clappers.
I buy wooden cutting boards at thrift store and use a clapper.
That is a great I dea!
would love to see how they are made. Do you sell them?
Im tryinig to get hubby to make us a video, and maybe a small batch of them. Hes pretty busy in real life but Im trying :)
Is the blood wood grooved in go easier grip for people with arthritis in their hand?
It does have a slot for fingers but I'm not sure about foe arthritis
Yes, we use a router to add a profile and grip so it's easier to pick up. They are a bit heavy, though.
I would love to buy one of the large clappers. Do you sell them?
I think we are going to do a how to video for woodworker out there, but I'm hoping to get him to make a few extras for ppl who don't have a wood worker in their life.
Sorry my husband doesn't do woodworking but would love to buy one. Thanks Mary walz
Are you going to do a video of your sewing room?
I need to for sure!!
I have some square ones with handles too.
Very cool! I need to try some squares:)
@@pickinstitches they are nice for completed blocks for that one last press. I leave them on overnight for those stubborn little buggers! Lol
