  • The stunningly beautiful Heron Island shown in full 6K captured on the RED Komodo, inside the Nauticam Raptor Housing.
    This wildlife showreel was captured as part of a project freediving and scuba diving on Heron Island. This island is a wildlife haven with a mass of marine life from Whiptail & Eagle Rays, Reef Sharks, Guitar Sharks, vibrant hard coral gardens and a bustling Green Sea Turtle population.
    The Komodo excelled, and performed beautifully underwater inside the Nauticam Raptor Housing, with Sigma lenses and WACP conversion optics.

    In hindsight, 6K may have been too much for RUclips to compress 😅 viewing in 4K still looks epic though!

    Aloha Tom! Just beautiful and stunning. I shoot surfing in Hawaii with the Komodo usually shooting at 4K 60 fps w the Salty Water Housing. Did you use a lighting setup? Looks so good! I subscribed so keep up the good work. You're inspiring me!

      Hey mate thanks for reaching out! The Komodo's such a beast, glad to meet another user! This was shot in 6K40, in a Nauticam housing with a Wide Angle Conversion Port. I've also got 2x 10,500 lumen OrcaTorch video lights on here for lighting. Glad you enjoyed mate!

      Thanks for being so quick to respond! We have such beautiful underwater life in Hawaii. I started my journey 25 years ago shooting in the water. Before the iphone or gopro I had a kit. Mostly for surfing but I did buy an Amphibico Phenom for my Sony Z1. Just no lighting. I never used a light fearing it would temporary blind our ocean critters. I guess the main thing is not to do it everyday to the same creatures in my home break of Makaha. Tourist boats moor there for the sealife.That light is cheap! Did you have someone hold the light? Or just just mounted it? Great stuff@@TomPark

      @@PakeSalmon I did some work in Hawaii years ago and loved it, your underwater world is stunning.
      The lighting topic is an interesting one, i've actually got a few videos on this, but largely research has indicated that lighting doesn't effect marine animals any different to how it affects us. Most animals, i.e. turtles and sharks venture near the surface regularly, with rays and turtles breaching for air/fun etc, and as such have eyes that are designed to deal with sun bursts through the water, and direct sunlight. Which is obviously far far greater than video lights. Most marine life live in the top of the water column in that 5-10m zone, and also are accustomed to sun rays and bursts through clear water.
      Where this becomes an issue is if lights are used in excess on animals that aren't surface animals, such as nemo or seahorses etc. These animals have far less light accustomed eyes, and excessive use may (we're not sure, but likely do) have an impact.
      But yeah anyways, food for thought, the dive housings have plenty of mounting points with clamps etc :)

      @PakeSalmon Год назад

      Good explanations! I won't feel bad using them. LOL. I'll check out this light and get to some shooting before the waves come! My side of the island is West Oahu. Very clear! Thanks again for the inspiration and yeah I'll mount mine. Mahalo!@@TomPark

      I'll just buy one light and take it from there. Once again thanks for the inspiration! @@TomPark

    Hi Tom! The color and dynamic range are divine, but I noticed that most of the footage is shallow… wonder how it does when you have less light available… also, do you use an ND on the Komodo?

  • @timotammisto
    @timotammisto Год назад +1

    I just got my new Komodo and still exploring what it can do! I am curious about how you focus under water. Your footage is stunningly beautiful and nicely in focus, closeups and wide? Manual or do you use the auto? If you use manual, are you set up to adjust focus underwater?

    • @TomPark
      @TomPark  Год назад +1

      It’s such a beast! And yeah all in manual, I’ve got a focus knob/ follow focus system built into my underwater housing. Im using nauticam, in the raptor housing. Glad you like the footage! Thanks
