They do some road construction on the main road so for the past few months my road has been made into the main road. I live right at the crossing, people do that ALL THE DAMN TIME. I hate it so much and can't wait for the construction to be over. I will never understand why people do it when it's just so unnecessary.
People gatekeeping the lgbtqia+ community and claiming that some people are not a part of the community due to their lack of (obvious) trauma/ being aro or ace etc- really sucks when the community is meant to be a welcoming and safe space for all lgbtqia+ folks. Shoutout to fellow aces
Ace friend! Fully agree with this one - forcing someone to explain their own/others' trauma because you think they're "not oppressed enough" is a) awful and b) easily avoided with a quick google. We don't like those gatekeepers in this house
Just gatekeeping things in general is just stupid or pretending like just because someone isn't as well off in life that they're automatically innocent and "oh poor them" and using it as an excuse to get anyway with blatantly rude things 🤷🏼♀️ Similar to what the above comments said people will be like "oh you're not oppressed enough" or "well you're [fill in the blank] so that invalidates everything about you"
Enby AroAce here; I actually wasn't 100% aware of just how much some LGBTQIA+ community members hates the Aromantic and/or Asexual community. I found out after coming home from my first Pride event, through a decently Discord server with a my buddies- because I'd posted an image of the reflective as hell duct tape covered flag pole- with the Aromantic and Asexual flags flying. The group was warning me not to carry the flags, which was.. something else. It hit me hard because I had a great time, but it made the idea that the only reason I was only accepted because of the Nonbinary flag I wore as a cape. And that still lurks in my mind- was I only accepted because I opted to wear a flag cape for a separate identity I hold? Is my trauma not worth it? Trauma is why I don't associate with gender, and trauma is why I can't do personal relationships that get beyond platonic. EDITED BECAUSE I MADE TYPOS
I see it mostly with the trend to be like "ewww what is this straight tiktok stuff" Or "get me off of straight tiktok" Fighting fire with fire does not work. Just because you're apart of the community doesn't give you the right to do the exact thing that's being done to you to others 🤷🏼♀️ But I digress
Regarding leaving marks on trees and rocks; I’m wondering if it’s because it’s romanticised in TV shows/movies? It seems to be a trope that a couple leaves a mark on a tree when they were younger and they they re-visit it. I’m sure it’s depicted with childhood friends too. Blame media
Once upon a time at my local park, some couple graffitied their first names onto the metal fence of someone's property. For clarification, the fence isn't completely in the open (its shrouded behind bushes and trees) and it's quite tall (probably 2 metres tall). But still, on the other side of that fence was someone's backyard. While walking down the footpath, you could see it if you looked in. I haven't checked to see if the graffiti is still there.
On gatekeeping music, you can see this in the yt comments of basically any song that existed before it was featured in a piece of popular media. I can never understand why people decide to try to feel superior for having known about a song or artist 'before it was popular' rather than just being happy that more people now have gotten to listen to this good music.
first of all: I didn't know that there was a word for it, let alone the word "gatekeeping". I think it can be fun in small doses. It's kind of its own running gag. "I interacted with x BEFORE it was cool!" But yeah...People can go overboard with that.
The comments section of Queen's Brighton Rock has tons of Queen fans who are upset that Baby Driver introduced the song to many people. I like Queen. I REALLY liked Baby Driver as a movie, and I'm glad the movie introduced me to a new song.
@@hawkins347 Honestly metal fans tend to be the most defensive towards other genres overall. Like, obviously not all metal fans, most of them are cool people open to lots of stuff. However, I've found that metal tends to have the most amount of people who are like "I only listen to X type of music and other types of music are trash, including metal that isn't hardcore enough/in another subgenre". Most things I've seen from like fans of rap and such listening to things like rock and metal are either like "I don't know much about this but it's cool" to "Yeah this isn't really my thing"
You know its actually kind of an ego boost when you were one of the the first ones to discover it. But why then be mad when it gets popular. Isn’t that the cool part? That you can brag that you knew an artist thats super mainstream now already back then? Why gatekeep it
I once had one of those professors who was proud of all the students who didn't pass. He also: doesn't believe in A's, Said he didn't care if we died and gloated about his wealth + how he didn't need his job. Needless to say most people dropped his class.
Blasting music whilst hiking feels more okay because there are less people around and people don't live around there, and like if someone's music is bothering me whilst hiking I can just stand still for a few minutes and they'll have usually gone far enough that I can't really hear it. I can deal with people playing music in the middle of nowhere I guess
I actually prefer spoilers. The way my mental health is it makes it so that I can't handle certain things, so it's much better for me to know how the show goes beforehand so that I can opt-out if I think that I'll be triggered. So, weirdly enough I'm actually grateful to people who post spoilers. Just, please tag your posts appropriately so that people who don't want spoilers are warned.
JJBA SPOILERS!!!!!!!: Yeah I did that for JJBA because it lessened how much it hurt when my favs died, unfortunately that made me sick watching the episode before.
I have another one Evan: Having fireworks on days that aren't days that you would expect them and be ready for them(coming from a person with sensory issues and has panic attacks at loud noises like fireworks)
This is so true and also during the day when you can't even see them so what's even the point. So bad for people with sensory issues or PTSD like soliders I've heard stories from veterans about have flashbacks and panic attacks because of fireworks. They are also so bad for animals. I worked at a summer camp with horses in the US (I'm not from the US) and the three days leading up to the 4th of July the people who lived next door to the stables were letting off fireworks in the middle of the day so we had a heap of terrified horses.
@@rebeccas2801 yes that's a good idea. Along with helping people that suffer from mental illnesses or panic when fireworks are set off it would probably also reduce firework related injuries and accidents :)
Yep. My best friend’s sweet, skittish dog ran away because she heard fireworks on a random day and then she got hit by a car 😭 The family always made sure she was securely inside on Fireworks holidays, but otherwise she typically stayed in the back yard during the day while the family was at work/school. Then some jerk neighbors decided to light off fireworks in the middle of the day on a random Tuesday, and she jumped the (6 ft) fence, ran for miles to escape the sound of fireworks and then started trying to herd passing cars.
teachers blaming students for bad grades when it is clearly their teaching !! i once had a chemistry teacher who constantly told us that we weren’t working hard enough and that’s why our exam average was 22% - when in reality she had barely taught us content and hadn’t even marked our practice exams in the three months she had leading up to our actual exam. needless to say she did not teach at our school the following year
Oh, I know a similar kind of teachers. I once had a teacher that gave us a bunch of exercises, with one or two formulas, and expected us to do the rest on our own. I WONDER WHY ONLY 50 % PASS THE SCHOOL EACH YEAR? It was even our main subject...The teacher was nice, but incredibly lazy. He even frequently went outside the classroom.
That sounds like my history teacher. He just couldn't explain unless you knew it beforehand. Like, I love history, so for me, I passed. But 22/29 failed the test. And that speaks for bad teacher???
I said something similar on reddit but people started saying that the teachers try their best and it's your problem even tho it was the teacher... I have had extremely good teachers and that particular teachers wasn't interested in teaching at all...she just gave us questions to answer from a play she said is too long for her to teach so we have to learn by ourselves
I once had a math teacher give us the completely wrong page for homework and then blamed us for not going through an 800+ page textbook to try and figure out her mistake. She said that she was dyslexic and fine, cool, but maybe disclose that in a math class just in case of situations like those.
no fr tho in high school i had a chemistry teacher who did not teach he gave us powerpoints and worksheets and 3 question tests and i failed a semester. then in summer school we got a different teacher and i was doing everything so easily and the math involved was fun for me and the teacher is like "WHY ARE YOU HERE THEN HOW DID U FAIL" and i was like THE DAMN TEACHER THATS WHY HALF THESE KIDS R HEREEEE
"Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, great minds discuss ideas." It's been attributed to various historical figures but is more likely just an old adage.
I'd love to discuss ideas but I don't know anyone to discuss them with. It could be that my next door neighbour loves to discuss political and philosophical ideas but he/she doesn't want to discuss them with ME. The one or two people who I get to talk to briefly only ever talk about people,so and so did this and the other one did that which is handy for keeping up with neighbourhood news at least. Everyday I post my opinion on whatever social or political issue is on the radio on my Facebook page which is quite safe as I only have about 28 Facebook friends and most of them have me on unfollow anyway!
Americans in Europe complaining to their American friends about food wait times while ✨dining✨ and laughing together : as a server I have wanted to accidentally spill beer on their crappy suits every single time
And then leaving the table in such a mess that you'd be forgoven for thinking a fucking bomb went off. Not just Americans who do this, and of course not all of them, but christ do they have a bad track record in my personal experience. They do give great tips though, so that's nice.
I hit it off with a girl at a party and my "friend" went behind my back and made up lies about me to make her not like me. It was weird because he had his own girlfriend, but he still felt the need to ruin my chances with this other girl who he didn't even want. just because he saw how much she was flirting with me.
I once had a math teacher in high school, who taught the most advanced class in that school, brag on the syllabus day IN FRONT OF ALL THE PARENTS that “You WILL cry in my class.” Like it was something to be proud of. Pretty sure I dropped/failed that class because, if the teacher didn’t want me to succeed, why would I want to?
Man, sooooo many of these are accurate affff. Some hit harder than others, for sure but it made me think about how since high school, I've always been a little more vocal, especially about people being dbags. I'm getting "old", I don't have patience for it anymore lmao. I like these threads and videos because it could make someone stop and kind of think "wow maybe I am being rude" because people usually don't say something irl. I think it's less common those people look into these, but the ones who aren't -aware- could really benefit :)
Tree carving thing- it’s actually a tradition, in my family, to carve your initials in the trees on the mountain my great grandfather owned. We lost the section because of my grandfathers death but it’s still a tradition we do there. It’s usually when we get married btw.
If you only do it on a small scale and on a big and healthy tree that tree is going to be just fine. Its only the people who carve in really deeply and into younger trees or like ripping off a bunch of branches that are a big problem.
Adding on to the comment about weird kids: as a former weird kid, they’re usually undiagnosed (or even diagnosed) autistic kids. So not only is it a douchey thing to do, but it’s also ableist.
Yeah, I literally got bullied in school by a huge group of douches for being "weird" even though they knew I was autistic and have severe social anxiety. I agree, it's borderline ableist. 5 years later, they're 17 and still do the same thing, which is 1. extremely childish and 2. one of em recently got diagnosed with autism too so like wtf?? lmao
@@DylanB05 Yeah my friend group is made up of undiagnosed and diagnosed autistics and the people who say they’d never bully a kid for being autistic are the same assholes who bully a kid for showing autistic traits and being “weird”... like bro Also it sucks that you has to go through that, I hope it gets better for you I really do.
Or they are just some flavor of mentally ill. I was and still am that kid just older now. Schizoid personality disorder for me and who knows what else is going on I'm just not diagnosed with yet. I personally believe there is something else going on besides SPD. 100% made me strange Treating people who are a bit strange but overall harmless shitty is always just a dick move and ableist I agree with you.
I rather disagree with this sentiment. Being weird is basically just not conforming to the social norms. I'm not autistic, but as a kid I was incredibly weird and awkward, which led to quite a lot of bullying in middle school. I still would proudly consider myself to be weird, because being "normal" is boring and not very fulfilling. That said, I understand where you're coming from, as I'd imagine that most autistic people can't easily conform to the social norms even if they want to.
Yeah, I probably qualify as one of those “weird kids” Was definitely alone a lot and am indeed autistic. I also have social and general anxiety and already had some…. social trauma. All the jackasses picking on me and then laughing at me when they pushed me to breaking and crying didn’t exactly help me in my continual fight against the anxiety and to be functional, a fight I was still just trying to even get in the fight at all at the time. If their shit was removed from my life or even just made smaller and less, my mental health progress would probably be like 40-60% farther along than it is by now. Literally had one kid respond to me tearfully telling everyone to stop laughing at my pain and that it wasn’t funny that “pfft, it is tho” (not exact wording but essentially the energy and way it was said/meant/toned)
Not in Castellano, no, but there's more than one Spanish language such as Aragonese, Catalan, Basque, Spanish Sign Language, etc. Bezo is a kiss in Ladino.
@@vitalspark6288 Basque is only Spanish because it is spoken in Spain, it's completely unrelated to any of those aforementioned languages you just mentioned.
About helping new fans: Many people don't like kpop fans (especially Armys, because they are the most known), but most of them are actually really helpful and not gatekeeping. Under new music videos you can usually find comments where people make timestamps, explaining who is who, so new fans can differentiate the members easier. (It's really helpful when it comes to kpop gropus with/over 10 members) Also, there are a ton of videos of helpful an "unhelpful" guides to kpop groups, where you can get to know the inside jokes and some other fun things about the group or their fangroup.
The people who play their music the loudest in public always seem to have the worst taste in music lol. I mean, if they played a bit of classic rock I wouldn't mind but it's always a load of bollocks music.
So here’s the thing about spoilers… I actually really like getting spoilers. That way I can enjoy how a story unfolds and appreciate smaller details rather than having to worry about focusing on following the main plot of the story.
Oh gate keeping really grew a bit in the MCU with Wandavision/Disney + shows, I get that it feels different to have watch along since the beginning but it's more fun to introduce them to the ride and direct them the right way like don't start with Infinity War
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it also happens in the Star Wars community. I respect people no matter which Star Wars trilogy they like, but I have been told that I was not a real Star Wars fan just because I like the sequels
about bad teachers braging about students not passing... my stats teacher once bragged that he reported the classes' overall grade average as the median and not the mean, which means that the lack of outliers (such as the large amounts of students that were failing) meant it look like he was doing a better job than he was. he also made harder questions on his exams worth a lot more points and just generally used his knowledge of math to screw us over as students.
Evan genuinely makes my day. I usually watch his videos 3 times. Once to enjoy it, once to enjoy it again, catch artistic shots/puns, etc., and once while I'm going to sleep because his voice is so soothing. Yes this sounds like I'm simping. Shut up.
Please show us Liverpool !!!! It's my dream to go to England one day and to see different areas of the country. I love your videos. It's great practice for me. You challenge my listening skills. You speak so fast. You're awesome.
As the wife of a Maths teacher here in the U.K. you definitely need to be fully prepared before becoming one! He loves the teaching but the rest of the bullshit that goes along with it all is beyond stressful. It's such a worthwhile profession but you need to be aware of how much more there is to it than standing in front of a class teaching. But if you ever get bored of RUclips I think you'd make an excellent teacher & they're always crying out for Maths teachers specifically 😊
When i was younger i used to have a swagger ... a pimp walk ... the john travolta thang ....as i now look back i realise i was an idiot with a funny walk 😄😃 ....
I had a teacher senior year of high school who I feel is a variation of that teacher/professor towards the end. First day of them teaching (the previous teacher got promoted so they came in like a month into the class) "It is not my job to teach you". Me and everyone else: Whaaaaaaa?? They proceeded to not go over the material until after each test and instead relied on us to read the book and take notes. They used a test generator from a different book because they thought the one from our book was too easy. That book had different information in it. The tests went something like this: 50% of the test grade was a written portion. As long as you wrote enough and were on generally the right track, full credit. No joke, people BSed it and it was rare to see below full marks. 50% of the test was multiple choice. If you turned in your notes you got 10% extra credit. They then would grade on a curve and take all of that together and make the highest grade 100% if no one managed to score over 100 with the EC. So really it was 45% free, 45% multiple choice and 10% turn in notes. I remember working backwards from that information to find that for several tests in a row, the highest grade on the multiple choice across all of their classes was a 66%. She thought it was fine because it was an AP class and no one is expected to score perfect on AP tests. This ignores that the stuff we were getting tested on was supposed to be freshest on our memory and even the most prepared were getting essentially Ds on her multiple choice tests because the information was not available for us.
Unfortunately there’s a few teachers like that & unfortunately not in just one country. When I was in comprehensive school had sub teacher like that, main teacher was off pregnant. She sent leaning support away & what does she do tells us to get with on with our work but she didn’t go though any of it, which she should of explained, she didn’t. Ok I thought that lesson over i won’t see her again I though, turns up following year to teach English class am in for a whole year. She was being rude to me & few of my friends & being nice to the naughty ones. I completely lost it with her. She said she deserved respect automatically. I said no you earn respect like everyone unless you’re a war hero, she was really on my last nerve & she told me, she didn’t like my attitude, then I told if you don’t like my attitude there’s the door or window if you prefer. She then threatened to send me to lunchtime detention. I told her you can but I won’t go to it & told her nothing you say will make me go to it she then threatened to put me on report. She didn’t even tho she wanted me on one. I walked out classroom & most time I’m quite but I lost it with her & I swore like a sailor outside the classroom back then. Head teachers at the time liked to talk to me & I got on with them which I think stopped her doing it basically. Which she wasn’t happy with. If am wrong I would apologise to people. She isn’t one of them I would apologise to. She owes me an apology & I’m still waiting for it even tho I finished comprehensive school in 2012. My classmates were actually shocked I swore outside the classroom & not at her In classroom. I ment two other people like her & they didn’t like me either just because they thought they should get respect automatically & I told them unless you’re war hero you earn it like everyone else does.
I don't understand this. How can the teacher make up and create their own tests and grading? Isn't there a curriculum? Why isn't the teacher following the curriculum and setting the same exams as the rest of the teachers of the subject?
@@vincentlevarrick6557 It was an AP class, at least at our school she was the only teacher of that subject (AP US Government). I honestly don't know how it works beyond that, but things definitely changed when the first teacher left and it was a mess. One of the most universally disliked teachers I knew.
What’s worse is that people drive round cars that are really loud in quiet residential areas and the car doesn’t even look good it’s just a loud piece of shit Honda
I don’t know what’s crazier, that one time when a teen from next door actually did a burnout in my neighborhood which created a huge cloud of smoke, or the time when a guy in a black boxy car did donuts at the roundabout on one end of my neighborhood and even filmed it
People or friend groups who don’t talk to each other about hard times because it is considered “weak”. If a friend isn’t in a good place just talk with them about what’s up. I know I haven’t been thaught this in school or at home so listening and asking real questions is still hard. But practicing and doing it is the only way to become a more wise and socially adept person. Help yourself and your close ones to live in a more empathic world ❤️ great vid as always Evan
The thing in the video about the fast and loud cars is so relatable to me. Like two years ago there were some teens from next door that would speed through the residential area my family and I live in and it was so annoying. Thankfully they don’t do it as much anymore
People who base their entire music taste on what Anthony fantano says, he seems like a charming guy and all but my god the amount of times I've come across someone who not only copy his music taste song for song but also add toxic music gatekeeping into the mix. Fantano has his music taste and it's often contrary to what most people listen to, he isn't the be all and end all of music, some objective teller of music truths, he just has his music taste and a review from him only provides the information of how well does that music conform to his specific music tastes.
What I like about fantanos reviews is that there is a level of separation from his particular tastes and the pure functionality of the music, which is super rare for music reviewers. For me personally, and probably for many others as well, I think it's not what he reviews that informs what I like and don't like, but the way he listens to music that is quite revolutionary. Not to say that it's a better way, just different. It's a more academic way of engaging with music, kind of how I imagine lit majors engage with literature. And I think those that treat fantanos opinion as the only valid one fall into the same trap as many academics who are only interested in the aesthetic of intellectualism.
8:02 oh god, I have a friend who once told me: "I won that argument about X tv show without having watched the show" and she was so proud about it. And I was thinking: "Is this sth to be proud of...?"?
Some of these are so true! In regards to a few of these: the teacher's one: Yeah, there's a reason why some students start to dread certain classes, and one of the major reasons is generally because the teacher is either super unlikable or punishes you for actually wanting to learn. This last one happened to me actually. Now, I'm not the brightest spark when it comes to math, but I did want to learn it in my early years. But this one teacher. So the class one day was particularly noisy, and at one point I got so fed up I stood up and basically shouted for everyone to shut up (cause, funnily enough, I wanted to learn), the teacher grabbed my bag and tossed it out of the classroom and told me to and follow it. Essentially chucking the one person out of the room who wanted to study, and not punishing the ones who were making all the noise. Both I and my mum (who worked at the same school I attended) were so pissed off at her lol. Though I don't think the teacher ever got reprehended for it so they went unpunished as well. One of my own pet peeves, is when your driving and some comes up next to you in another lane on a roundabout and are blasting super loud music. Like, cheers bro I'm trying to concentrate and I don't need DJ wannabe next to me whilst I'm waiting for that green light. It's not cool, and honestly, it's kind of dangerous.
For the whole gatekeepimg thing I definitely agree. I also think there are two type of people in this regard. Those who are just interested in the thing (or identify as something if we are discussing LGBTQIA+) and those that are kind of part of the culture. The people deeply engaged in the culture of music or fandoms shouldn't belittle people who are merely interested.
About the teachers being proud of not passing most students, one of my teachers once told me that if everyone is passing, they arent doing their job. He explained it as though if everyone passes the class is too easy and you are not actually learning. Frankly I think the opposite is true. If everyone is not passing, you are failing as a teacher. This doesnt mean that the class needs to be any easier, simply that the teacher needs to do better making sure the students understand. That being said it goes both ways. There will always be students who don't want to learn, or at least dont want to put in the work required to learn. They deserve to fail if they are not trying, but any student that is trying and putting the work in should be getting enough instruction and guidance from the teacher to succeed in the class. Thats just my own personal opinion though. If you disagree, please (respectfully) explain why.
In England teachers or schools have been told by the government that next year they've got to fail a much higher percentage of students so only about 30% get to go to university, which imo is much overhyped and overrated anyway.
My grade 8 science teacher bragged at a parent-teacher meeting (I was always brought to parent-teacher meetings) that half the class was failing. It was amazing that he didn't realize that he was basically bragging about how bad of a teacher he was. He was a really, really awful teacher.
"It's just a prank" said my mom when she dumped an entire bucket of water on me while I was standing next to the television...like less than a foot away from the wall outlet it was plugged in to. 15 years later I'm still mad about it.
whats up evan, moving to manchester in the uk from seattle TODAY to study (i'm 18, lived in seattle my whole life), so i have binge watched hella of your videos over the last few days and don't really feel like im going in blind anymore hahaha. love the channel, you are hilarious, hope you are well.
that bit about super loud cars infuriates me!!! i live in an apartment complex with mostly college students and there's 2 construction projects, an off-campus dorm and some luxury apartments, that have been in progress for the last 2 years, so i get a lot of construction noise and workers walking under my window. there's this one particular worker who has an extremely loud car and it pisses off his coworkers too. the car literally goes vvvvVVVVVVRRRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMM POP POP POP every single day around 6 am and 3 pm. and then there's other douchbags like, i'm assuming a student, revving their engine and doing donuts near my apartment, a motorcyclist with a loud engine and blasting music, i'm assuming from speakers in the bike, and a frequent pedestrian who walks along my street every night with speakers blasting rap music. all of this wasn't a problem when i moved in 3 years ago
1:09 I feel that so much the thing I hate most about summer is everyone suddenly feels the need to blast music on the side walk and in every public space is like so you can afford that $80+ speaker that lets me hear you from 5+ blocks away but you can't afford a pair of ear buds?
People, especially with tiktok, have gotten real comfortable trying to gatekeep everything. It's like "oh I'm so cool you can't use this [insert thing here] and I can I'm superior "
I saw ppl commenting about Liverpool and I was so confused... Then I read the description! I'm originally from Liverpool but live in 🏴 now, I think a video would be great because as you know so many people who moved to/visit 🇬🇧 tend to stick to London area so it would be lush to see you share your thoughts on my home city! Also regarding douchebags, definitely playing music from their phones, drives me mad!
Aaah the weird kid and the weird interests ones! I hate it when my differences get pointed out :( It makes me only wanna share the "more normal but less interesting" side of myself
People bragging about how much they "suffered" in videos games and trying to shame "casuals" for not being interested in experiencing the same. Or believing that their virtual accomplishments mean jack shit. People who took English/writing/film majors and think that makes their opinions on fiction more valid. People who think their "lived" experiences are automatically more real than anything learned in school. Generationism/ageism.
Although I’m sure there is a level of acceptability, playing your music while hiking is actually a survival tactic that is encouraged. Especially if you’re like 1 to 3 people, it makes your presence known to animals and keeps animals like bears or cougars away.
"Pretending to know something when actually having no idea" ooh I feel that one. I live abroad in Japan and I cannot even count the amount of times my friends and family lectured me about the OWN country I'm living in, doubling down every time I politely try to correct them or explain to them how things are a little bit more nuanced than on that one 10 minutes RUclips video they saw. It's even funnier when they want to explain the language to me despite NOT SPEAKING IT. I don't care you watch anime Kevin, that doesn't count.
It's not really bullying in my friend group considering that we will roast each other incessantly and no-one is really considered "the target", but I see where you're coming from. I am definitely a target for bullying in my school, and my classmates and I are 16.
I have a teacher that purposefully encouraged us to not try on our pre-test and actively discouraged the people who were trying on it. We all believe it was in order for it to be guaranteed that he would get a higher marking for teaching at the end of the semester when we take the test for real. I thought he was a nice guy but that just seems really off to me.
I life in the middle of a city, the street where is life is a on an bike path where cars are allowed. Several times a day, there are cars and motorcycles that race through the street and make the most horrible and loud sound. It's not only extremely annoying, but also dangerous!! One time there was even a car show that stop in the street and showing what 'amazing' sounds their cars where able to make.
With the gatekeeping thing, I "hang" around more political communities. While I don't tell people to get lost, I see why a lot of people do, especially when people try to argue points while knowing nothing.
Worse than defacing trees and beautiful nature settings: When I went to visit Auschwitz and was walking around the camp where people slept, and died from malnutrition and diseases, tourists thought it was cool to inscribe their own names on the walls and posts. "asinine narcissist was here 2019" also saw people taking 'fun' selfies, posing in front of the camp. I've never been so disgusted by humanity in one fell swoop
What baffles me is surely these people see other people doing it and clearly don't think "what a douchebag" like everyone else, they think "what a cool guy"....
There is someone on my bus and god do I feel bad for his ears. He wears headphones but I can still hear his music with perfect clarity. It's the same song every day for the whole 1 hour ride.
I just met a local teacher who was bragging about being a bad teacher in a local moms group. I sent it to her district superintendent. As a mom I'm not here for that, kids deserve good teachers
What’s worse than just posting spoilers is when someone’s discussing a movie in front of you and you ask them to stop and they still spoil it. I had Twilight ruined for me that way
I never got the gatekeeping of music. Wouldn't you want your favorite artist to get exposure? Or have more people to gush about said artist? (Stream The Four Winds albums by The Oh Hellos if you're into folk it feels like angels are serenading you and if you specifically listen to them during a long car ride you'll feel like you're in an artsy coming of age film 10/10 highly recommend)
Only exception for the music while hiking is if you wanna scare away everything from bears to birds in a 400m radius. Granted, scaring away bears is one thing, birds? Different matter.
As a waitress, I hate it when people think they're too individualistic and cool for social formalities. When I walk up to your table and ask "how are you?" your reply should be "fine thanks, how are you?" or anything along those lines. If you say "I'm hungry, and I have a headache... oh sorry I was supposed to say fine," that means you're a douche. Also, you don't need to say thank you every time I bring you something, but you have to say it atleast once while I'm waiting on you, or I will hate you.
I probably am this customer (sorry not sorry), but here's the thing: you don't actually care how I am. This is all customer service in general and wait staff in particular. You're at work, you're busy, you want to get on with things. You don't want to make inane chitchat about how customers are feeling, you just want to get on with your job. And you're never gonna see me again, and you don't actually care how I am. And I know all of this. So if I AM hungry and have a headache, and you've just interrupted a conversation between myself and my dining companions, and then I have to engage in this ridiculous dance for no reason whatsoever, I'm going to say so, and then catch myself. I'm not TRYING to be edgy, I'm just honestly annoyed at this point because I was already struggling to hold in the grouchy due to the afforementioned. This is a situation where just because it's common, doesn't mean the majority are correct. When did the idea that 'good customer service means making oneself invisible' go out of fashion??
@@elizabethgrosvenor153 The thing is, I have no choice but to ask you how you are, the majority of people would see it as rude if I didn't ask. I'm sorry that you have to engage in what you veiw as a ridiculous dance, but please understand that your servers are just trying to be polite, and I'd gladly make chit-chat if I had the time, but I don't. I don't know when the idea that "good customer service means making oneself invisible" fell out of fashion, it must have been before was born, was that really a thing? In any case, it sounds awkward as hell.
There is nothing worse than an obviously insincere greeting and sorry, but I will say thank you every time I am brought something, though it might be abbreviated to 'ta'. I also prefer a genuine, "Okay my lovely?" to a forced sounding, "Was everything to your satisfaction?"
10:50 Maybe being "proud" isn't a great trait, but I do think colleges could use a little gatekeeping for STEM/computer related fields, because bad software developers can create major security issues and generally bad software (more of a personal concern admittedly), and bad engineers can straight up kill people.

Fully agree with this one - forcing someone to explain their own/others' trauma because you think they're "not oppressed enough" is a) awful and b) easily avoided with a quick google. We don't like those gatekeepers in this house
This!!! "X person hasn't been through enough" and? How do you know? Why does it matter they're still in the community.
Just gatekeeping things in general is just stupid

Enby AroAce here;
I actually wasn't 100% aware of just how much some LGBTQIA+ community members hates the Aromantic and/or Asexual community.

Regarding leaving marks on trees and rocks; I’m wondering if it’s because it’s romanticised in TV shows/movies? It seems to be a trope that a couple leaves a mark on a tree when they were younger and they they re-visit it. I’m sure it’s depicted with childhood friends too.
Blame media
Is it really a negative thing to do, when the engraving is acting as a romantic momento- isn’t the issue with vulgar graffiti and mess
I just think it's kind of instinctive to mark where you are
Like even cave men....
It probably even happened before tv so I wouldn't blame tv, or media for that, not all couples do it, I think it's sweet...
"I interacted with x BEFORE it was cool!"
But yeah...People can go overboard with that.
Also gatekeeping music from "casuals" - metal especially.

Having fireworks on days that aren't days that you would expect them and be ready for them(coming from a person with sensory issues and has panic attacks at loud noises like fireworks)
I just say change it so only licensed venues can purchase and use fireworks and they have to notify all neighbours beforehand

teachers blaming students for bad grades when it is clearly their teaching !! i once had a chemistry teacher who constantly told us that we weren’t working hard enough and that’s why our exam average was 22% - when in reality she had barely taught us content and hadn’t even marked our practice exams in the three months she had leading up to our actual exam. needless to say she did not teach at our school the following year
Oh, I know a similar kind of teachers.

Yeah, I probably qualify as one of those “weird kids”
Was definitely alone a lot and am indeed autistic.

About helping new fans:
Many people don't like kpop fans (especially Armys, because they are the most known), but most of them are actually really helpful and not gatekeeping.

Playing loud music in the car with windows down
I had a teacher senior year of high school who I feel is a variation of that teacher/professor towards the end.

I come to Fantano for validation. He liked Porter's new album so I was like PRAISE
he hated his first album so I was likE BOO
What I like about fantanos reviews is that there is a level of separation from his particular tastes and the pure functionality of the music, which is super rare for music reviewers. For me personally, and probably for many others as well, I think it's not what he reviews that informs what I like and don't like, but the way he listens to music that is quite revolutionary. Not to say that it's a better way, just different. It's a more academic way of engaging with music, kind of how I imagine lit majors engage with literature. And I think those that treat fantanos opinion as the only valid one fall into the same trap as many academics who are only interested in the aesthetic of intellectualism.

Yes, people playing their music without headphones on trains and buses is really annoying.
I read the description
He's living in Liverpool
I look out the window as though he's just going to appear because we're in the same city
I'm in the center too! Just went to the ol st john's Aldi today
Constantly heckling stand up comics.
Here’s one, littering.... it’s not cool to just dumb stuff wherever, it you brought it you can bring it back
hello everyone and welcome back to a video from a man who collects polished pebbles
I was not ready for the accent of "bIg ScaRy PrOfeSSoR..." :D :D XD
Honestly I got really sad at the end when you didn't have a bed to fall back on
Evan, just out of curiosity, have seen Bo Burnham's "Inside" just before you filmed this video?
From a concerned fan from Portugal
I suspect he has. I heard references to Content and Bezos I.
I fear for his mental health.
whats up evan, moving to manchester in the uk from seattle TODAY to study (i'm 18, lived in seattle my whole life), so i have binge watched hella of your videos over the last few days and don't really feel like im going in blind anymore hahaha. love the channel, you are hilarious, hope you are well.
update: been here 8 days, this country is amazing, even better than u say 😭😭
that bit about super loud cars infuriates me!!! i live in an apartment complex with mostly college students and there's 2 construction projects, an off-campus dorm and some luxury apartments, that have been in progress for the last 2 years, so i get a lot of construction noise and workers walking under my window. there's this one particular worker who has an extremely loud car and it pisses off his coworkers too. the car literally goes vvvvVVVVVVRRRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMM POP POP POP every single day around 6 am and 3 pm. and then there's other douchbags like, i'm assuming a student, revving their engine and doing donuts near my apartment, a motorcyclist with a loud engine and blasting music, i'm assuming from speakers in the bike, and a frequent pedestrian who walks along my street every night with speakers blasting rap music. all of this wasn't a problem when i moved in 3 years ago
Gatekeeping what is considered "real" music. It's not cool, it just makes you look elitist.
Playing hard to get. No, I don’t find you mysterious/cool for wasting my time.
Women don’t play hard to get. They just aren’t into you but the male ego is so fragile they make up this ‘playing hard to get’ bs.
@@mysteryegg340 Exactly
Thank you for the video! Excellent observations.
Especially if you’re like 1 to 3 people, it makes your presence known to animals and keeps animals like bears or cougars away.
the Jeffrey kisses caught me off guard as a spanish spoken person
1:48 the story of my life. Always being on the receiving end of this at school. I should've just gotten better 'friends'. 🙈
People who claim a piece of art is objectively good/bad and spend 11 hours mocking people who dare disagree with them
With the gatekeeping thing, I "hang" around more political communities. While I don't tell people to get lost, I see why a lot of people do, especially when people try to argue points while knowing nothing.
Worse than defacing trees and beautiful nature settings:
When I went to visit Auschwitz and was walking around the camp where people slept, and died from malnutrition and diseases, tourists thought it was cool to inscribe their own names on the walls and posts. "asinine narcissist was here 2019" also saw people taking 'fun' selfies, posing in front of the camp. I've never been so disgusted by humanity in one fell swoop
"I played among us before it was cool and popular"
Good for you, you want a cookie?
Love your vids Evandingr!
6:27 that's a really good Mickey Mouse impression my gosh
I'm so mesmerized by the little green audio bars
What baffles me is surely these people see other people doing it and clearly don't think "what a douchebag" like everyone else, they think "what a cool guy"....
Telling people you’re not posh and straight away thinking that “serving staff” referred to the butler/cook 😂😂
The moment Evan turns full Mikey Mouse, even with the follow up of the Disney board. Good job sir
There is someone on my bus and god do I feel bad for his ears. He wears headphones but I can still hear his music with perfect clarity. It's the same song every day for the whole 1 hour ride.
Surprised revving up a motorbike was not on the list. One of the most annoying things on the planet
I'd specify the loud type, like Harley D's and similar. I dont know exactly wh, but the amount of sound makes me kinda panic for a short time.
I just met a local teacher who was bragging about being a bad teacher in a local moms group. I sent it to her district superintendent. As a mom I'm not here for that, kids deserve good teachers
Evan Edinger: Will read reddit so you don't have to!
I love this series, btw!
This was a good episode. Thnx.
What’s worse than just posting spoilers is when someone’s discussing a movie in front of you and you ask them to stop and they still spoil it. I had Twilight ruined for me that way
Twilight was pretty shit you shouldve said thanks
@@evan Poor example but my point still stands
I never got the gatekeeping of music. Wouldn't you want your favorite artist to get exposure? Or have more people to gush about said artist? (Stream The Four Winds albums by The Oh Hellos if you're into folk it feels like angels are serenading you and if you specifically listen to them during a long car ride you'll feel like you're in an artsy coming of age film 10/10 highly recommend)
Only exception for the music while hiking is if you wanna scare away everything from bears to birds in a 400m radius.
Granted, scaring away bears is one thing, birds? Different matter.
Definitely.
I apologise for my snippy comment.
@@elizabethgrosvenor153 It's all good!
There is nothing worse than an obviously insincere greeting and sorry, but I will say thank you every time I am brought something, though it might be abbreviated to 'ta'.
I also prefer a genuine, "Okay my lovely?" to a forced sounding, "Was everything to your satisfaction?"
5:25 This not only earned a sub, I'm turning notifications on
As a TV sound editor...seeing that recording meter constantly in yellow........
10:50 Maybe being "proud" isn't a great trait, but I do think colleges could use a little gatekeeping for STEM/computer related fields, because bad software developers can create major security issues and generally bad software (more of a personal concern admittedly), and bad engineers can straight up kill people.
Maybe be should actually be trained. Employers won't train anybody then complain when nobody is qualified enough.
Evan, the music was lovely.
People who leaves notes on ambulances because there inpatient & self-centred
Have you ever thought these cave painting were jsut vandalism but because they happened so long ago they are art..
When your making fun of someone and everyone is laughing but there is a line and I know I have crossed it in the past and you have too go and say I'm sorry and be genuine
