On rare occasions in the summertime, I would get more amps going into the batteries than I wanted. I didn’t want more than 100 A going into the batteries at any one time, so I just changed the Victron charge controller to read 85% instead of 100%. This kept the amperage below 100 A.
Victron have videos on RUclips showing how their systems have been installed at the top of the mountain. I would say therefore liability and known high-quality products will suit your application best I’ve also supplied them for extreme conditions and they work fine
@@minutemanprep I have spoken with a couple EG4 reps and they say no way Jose. Not rated for that altitude nor would they warranty them if I tried. Victron I have heard no questions asked for warranty.
Please know that this is not affordable the minute something goes wrong. You’re replacing large portions of your system compared to victron once I install and supply which apart can be replaced this has a massive downside that if you have to make a warranty return you could be out two or three weeks without power versus other systems. It’s just less functionality.
Think of everything! But, none of EQ4 inverters have conformal coating on the PCB's so will not survive 10 years and if at a high elevation the high voltage can arc over killing the inverter just like a EMP. Research Conformal coating and why it is used. Go Cheap and pay the price.
Thanks Ben. Another good one to motivate us feet draggers with our temporary / permanent installations.
The Panel mount is interesting. More information please.
Great video and install thanks for sharing 👍

Good to know, thanks for sharing.
At 7:57 I think I saw you connect your PV to the PE bar. I did the same thing but luckily realized my mistake before it was too late.
Haha I caught that also and was wondering what he was doing
New subscriber from the California High Desert! Great video!
Great to see the setup there. How much does a ground array rack like that cost approximately?
Roughly $2-3k
Thumbs up 👍 thanks for sharing your experience and video with us.
What type of panels? 400watt bifaical ? Because I have the same setup but I just wanna make sure I don’t get into the same issue…
Why not run 6S2P instead of just dropping the 12th panel?
A second wire run would be needed for that so it was a simple fix for the time being
@ that’s what the first wire run is for (to pull the other two) haha… Looks good!
I guess you just "lost" the 12th panel?
👍
Who makes the best off grid solar system for high altitude. By high altitude I mean 11k feet.
My vote would be EG4 but I've never looked in detail for high altitude.

@@UKsystems Thank you I have heard the same about Victron.
Dont do it! Not rated for altitude ZERO conformal coating!!!!! CHEAP cost cutting NOT rated for Altitude. EG4 that is, Victron uses conformal coating.
