  • On this day in early March I visited Warley Place nature reserve, in Brentwood Essex. Formerly the home of Edwardian horticulturalist Ellen Willmott and her extensive gardens. The house was demolished in 1939, and the garden reverted to wilderness, eventually making its way to being looked after by the Essex Wildlife Trust who now maintain the site with a team of volunteers.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the history of Warley Place I highly recommend reading the book ‘Miss Willmott’s Ghosts’ by Sandra Lawrence.

What a magnificent garden. I am in awe of those huge tree trunks - gnarled, knotty, sculpted. The swathes of spring flowers popping up so abundantly, the mosses, the old growth and decay - all captivating and a feast for the soul.
Your art studio is so neatly organised and you work so methodically. It’s fascinating to watch and is almost meditative. You are very talented, Grace. Your creations are so beautiful ❤

Hi Grace, hope all is well with you and yours. I randomly found your channel whilst scrolling through, as you do, and you jumped out immediately as we share the same surname which I find quite rarely to be honest. It was an absolute bonus and joy for me to then watch this video and found the beauty and senerity within, thankyou. Such a lovely place and you captured the stunning scenery and flora perfectly. I have subbed and look forward to checking out your past and future work. All the very best, Glenn Edkins 🙏

Beautiful - thank you so much for sharing, I’d never heard of Mrs Willmott or her garden, I must read the book. Also, your studio (and work) is lovely - such a clean space! Mine needs a good spring clean this weekend.

What an incredible beautiful video Grace! I have heard of the book Mrs Willmott's Ghosts but had no idea about the lost garden. I must track down the book now! Your prints are charming and I love the footage of you in your studio.

You have beautiful studios with plenty of room it's my dream to have something like that in the future but for now it's a table in my bedroom at least I don't have to pack it away every time

Thank you, I feel lucky to have such a great space, before this studio I did everything on my small kitchen table (and had to pack it away every time!) so I know the frustrations. A big positive to having it on your bedroom table is it being so accessible for you hopefully though
