Why do autistic people play music? It comes down to the way the autistic brain works. Seeing everything as a puzzle is why so many autistic people are good with mathematics. Mathematics is also the key to how music is created.

I am a Dan from the UK and I have Aspergers Syndrome or ASD which is a form of Autism, often referred to as High Functioning Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder. I make videos every week on my journey and offer tips and tricks to help everyone who has Autism.

    Hi Dan!
You are a great "sounding board" for all of us who are adults on the Spectrum and don't have anywhere else to go..
Imagine if someone with a different condition, such as a physical disability, suddenly, had their support cut upon reaching adulthood. It would be considered a horrible thing to do, if a government suddenly stopped helping those who have those sorts of difficulties.
Mental differences/diversity/disorders/health conditions have never been high on the government support system after you reach adulthood.
It seems crazy because you need your brain and helping those who struggle mentally to achieve the same level of support as those with physical difficulties, can lead to a much better world.
I find people who have mental health struggles, are also people who are brilliant, caring, intuitive, inventive etc., they just need to have help to extract their own talents and contribute to their own life and others lives. Not made to feel broken and worthless.
I am a female on the Spectrum and was finally formally diagnosed at 37 years of age after feeling completely broken and unsupported by the docs I had gone to, for help.
I am happy I have been diagnosed, but finding out there is absolutely no local support groups, no help programs, no solution or action plans available for adults who are struggling, really shocks me. Online forums help a bit, but a professional help system should be made available for people who aren't children.
Much of what child autism programs offer, could help late diagnosed adults as well, just tailored to a different (older) audience.
Keep up the good work and positivity! You have definitely proven how wonderful aspies are as adults, to the world at large and I hope in the future, there will be more support for adults by the medical/social welfare agencies.

I was diagnosed at age 50 and I’ve had tons of support. I’ve currently got three support workers as well as my work coach at the job centre. The psychiatrist who diagnosed me via the nhs is also super supportive. However, no matter how much help I get, I still have meltdowns 😪. I’m also in three autism groups which are a great help.

Wired Wonky they all support in different ways. My main support worker who I see every week is an autism specialist. I see a guy once a month who specialises in self employment so he is taking things very slowly with me but supporting me in that area and the other one I see is a health and well-being worker and she is probably/possibly going to help me set up a support group for autistic adults as I did a talk to a group of autistic adults (at her request) who attend a weekly art group that she runs, so it sounds overwhelming but because they all support for different things, it works out well and my main worker is the autism worker so if the other two got too much for me, I can just drop them.

We dont have much support for adult autism in New Zealand. However because Carl is an ex Veteran he gets support because of that. His Aspergers is what makes him unique, he is so supportive of me. He gets what its like to be disabled. Ill admit it took years for us to navigate through the spectrum and it was quite tumultuous. Now we have a unique communications routine. Carl likes routine. 💖

My son is an adult now in his early twenties . He was diagnosed with Asperger's a few years ago. I am concerned that everyone is overlooking the condition and is not accepting the diagnosis. He is a very smart and caring young man. He sometimes lives with his dad or has an apartment . I know he has so much potential . It would be so beneficial for him to know that there are many others that feel like he does. That he is not alone. Everybody has issues they have to work on. If you have any suggestions it would be so helpful . Thank you

@@autumn5852 Nobody is really excepting the diagnosis of Asperger's . Sometimes someone will vaguely refer two something about it but that's it. At this time myself and my son have a communication problem. I brought him up but he was diagnosed as an adult with Asperger's. I would have done things totally different. Everything I did seriously was the wrong thing for him. Right for my two other adult children but not for him. So he is not communicating with me right now.

But I do have a problem in that our communication hasn't been good for a while and his dad has a real hard time accepting the fact he has Asperger's. He was diagnosed by a psychologist as an adult. As a mother of three I have said that I did everything wrong concerning my son. I would have done totally the opposite if I had known he had Asperger's

I have found that my 26 yr old autistic son is discriminated against. Such a shame. There is also no assistance. I am the U.S. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed at age 7 and I was told he did not qualify for services because he was not sick enough. My son was born in 1993. Very few people even knew what autism was. He has lost a lot of his knowledge this year that he used to have.

Coddies Colors: one quick way to find out if somebody is on the spectrum; ask for a show of hands for the question "Do you ever feel like an alien or describe yourself as an alien?" I'm pretty sure it's an exact correspondence.

Hi dan! I'm watching here from the United States, from the state of Maine! In addition to my prior comment, I think little is known still about autism spectrum conditions and because of this a lot of people specifically women as you have mentioned in some of your videos in the past, they are able to mask their symptoms or don't even realize they have it until suddenly the realization hits them or somebody with the condition maybe shares about the traits and symptoms with them. It does run in my family. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 years old. But I just turned 31 in August of 2019 and came to the conclusion that I very likely have a somewhat mild case of Asperger's probably a month or two before my birthday. And I believe my grandfather is the one who probably passed it along to us, because he seemed to have high functioning autism, and all my aunts and uncles on that side of the family seem to have signs and symptoms of it. My mother included. My Spectrum condition seems to have gone under the radar because my ADHD symptoms were so much more obvious and noticeable and caused me to have challenges in school, so that was what I was diagnosed with and assisted with throughout School. I'm noticing now that I'm older that I struggle with socialization at work and I've always had aversions and social anxiety and quirkiness and I've always known I was different, and what a friend shared an article with me that contained the traits and symptoms of Asperger's, my mouth dropped and I couldn't believe it. And I printed the article and highlighted my traits that I related to. And now I'm looking to get a formal diagnosis ASAP.

My thought as to why I don't seem to be forgotten who have the autism spectrum condition is because adults are expected to be independent and our societies, and any help that would have been given to most children on the Spectrum who are diagnosed well in school, it's expected that people would have gotten all the help they needed through school and presumably have their Affairs in order. But that's assuming that people are diagnosed while in school. When in school, there are teachers and specialist that can review children's experiences in school, and autistic traits are often found in school along with things like ADHD except rap. So I think in society today, people think of ADHD and autism is something that you only have as a kid because it's primarily diagnosed in childhood due to the fact that so much pressure and socializing and stuff is put upon children during those ages, that it's often found those times. So those of us who have it more mildly or somehow we're under the radar, are left to fend for themselves a bit more when they're older and find out.

  • @jok.1666

The reason there may be no assistance or support for adults is that there is no government reimbursement for these services. The organizations, companies while generally non-profit only are interested in providing services for which they'll be reimbursed. I'm speaking from the USA.

I suffer from cyclical insomnia (3 hours of sleep per night). My best solution: regular exercise, eat a balanced diet, and take a melatonin tablet 1-3mg and/or a B-complex vitamin an hour before bed. Also read a book before bed, and turn down the lights and all electronics OFF, at least an hour or two before bedtime.

this video segment fills me with mixed emotions i feel saddened that aspies (we as a subculture) are not really recognised its kind of like we dont exist like you put in the title FORGOTTEN is the correct word, however where other cultures speak out, we can't as we lack the necessary social adeptness to a larger live audience. This is why youtube is the ground grass roots base for bringing aspie culture to the forefront and most importantly into news reports, because with youtube a plan can be structured for whats wanted to be said youtube is a vital tool to change the tide of public gaps in knowledge of our culture
