I love how you used it across different music genres. Beautiful music. Great demo!
I thought it was really cool that you mention the drawbacks of compressing acoustic guitar and how dual-stage mode can help. I was trying out the free Molotok on acoustci guitar and its beta (dual-stage) mode was the first time I really felt like compression really made the acoustic guitar bloom. I'll be using Molot a lot, love it on bass (alpha mode with 1176-esque long attack so ~1ms) and drums (especially in parallel) too.
Great review! This Compressor sounds awesome! You are the man! Thank you
Yup Tokyo Dawn is amazing 🔥👌 Nice to see you reviewing their stuff David 👍
Sounds killer! Thank you, best reviews on Youtu... everywhere!
TDR is ballin'. The features alone put most other compressors to shame.
this is amazing compressor. i buyed it and cant describe how amazing feel to sound it gives. i love that little tweaks of dynamic saturation and other little tweaks makes sound subtle changes in time.
Only recently found your channel David amd am enjoying your vids, reviews and tutorials. Your reviews are incredibly helpful and informative and so you're my 'first call' reviewer. Subscribed.
Great review, thanks!
Thanks champion!
Very nice plugin
Love this compressor. It has analogue feel!
Woah, so surprised to see my favorite compressor on here! i didn't even know Tokyo Dawn made a new, paid version. this seems really great. thanks for reviewing this one David!
I love this compressor I have two free versions of Molot compressor but this version is definitely my fave I love it it's amazing
Sick man, I was a fan of this and limiter 6 as vsts, cant wait to get back to using it.
wow, impressive! thanks David!
I was hoping for you to review this!
Nice! Thank you boss 🤟
Such a great comp!.....so versatile. I had the original free Molot years ago. It was my go to comp for O-Hs. I could smooth out cymbals perfectly without making things sound muted.
Took me a while to understand what the Sigma and Alpha control was( never look at instructions). The limiter is kind of a "secret weapon" (I hate that title ! ). The Saturate is great, but probably not what a lot of people might expect??. I like that it's more soft than crunchy.
For how well it does everything, it's very affordable! ;:-)
I like that it has a saturator and limiter controls seperately from the compressor. I often like to exaturate the attack on the drums and then shave it off with with a peak saturator and a limiter at the end of the chain. (I also do this with fast bass) but yeah with this Plugin I could do that all in 1 Plugin instead of 3
Yeah buddy!
I've had the free Molot for a few years. It's great and a lot of fun. Just got TDR Kotelnikov GE and it's amazing. TDR plugs are great.
GE for sure! I love the free version but this is a no brainer
Damn this thing just about does it all.
i must admit it is the best
Hands down favorite developer.
This makes that kick sound fucking huge. The action on the sigma mode is amazing. And to be honest, the limiter sounds even better than the compressor on the kick to me!
Like damn this thing is a density machine
Awesome...
Quality content as always thanks David! Have you tried the Kush Novatron? I think you might like it.
Thank you, no I tried few of their offering and found them underwhelming, the clari is okay, but very limited
@@mixbustv I find Kush is great for elevator music and lots of cheese.
Nice video mate a little bonus press alt & the SC detector & and it changes into SC Hilbert detector with less distortion in low frequencies and more accurate and precise i saw it in Dan Worrall video review!
Just picked this up. Gives me a well controlled compression and saturation colour, right next to MJUC. Great for screams and under-pressure dialogue. That makes my black friday pickups just three this year. Molot, Volcano 3 and Timeless 3. All colourfull stuff. Maybe I'll pick up Saturn when it gets to v3 ? :)
I love Tokyo Dawn Records Plugins. Great bang for buck, top quality and no ILok/DRM bullshit :)
Leaving aside the fact that TDR plugins tend to have a very good sound quality, it's funny how those plugins also have several weird features, mostly in the GE versions.
Those guys really love to experiment, uh?
Btw, from the old Molot, IIRC Alpha is the typical Peak compression, while Sigma is RMS compression. I wonder if the new Molots work that way too.
Just yesterday I had a tricky studio situation - who came to rescue? Molot did!
Thicc af. Definitely going to grab a demo.
What kind superior drummer sample you use ? I love the smack bomb your snare. 😁 tell me
Hi David. Great indepth video for a great plugin. I enjoyed it. TDR makes killer stuff considering their price tags. When I demoed this I was instantly reminded on U-he PRESSWERK, which offers nearly anything also but was out years ago. I would be pleased to see a video showcase from you for Presswerk, as it maybe one of the best plugin compressors - flying very low under the radar unfortunately. Cheers
Presswerk is great, just too tweaky for me
@@mixbustv yes it's great. It even has a tiny bit less than Molot to tweak. It's deep but also working great with jusy basic tweaks. Preaswerk, Unisum and Molot GE... all amazing and top in the ballpark concerning sound and tweakability options. Cheers
In a vocal chain..if you use multiple compressors which i do. Would you suggest this to be the first or second compressor? Or, will this be the only compressor I need , rather than using two.
Thanks!
Probably over due but between the initial attack/release features combined with both the limiter and secondary controls, this could do with this one alone.
@@InsaneCarville thank you! I recently realized that I achieve a lot of extra noise when I’m using my favorite compressor plug-in the CLA3A , and learned it would be advantageous to use a compressor before that To achieve a quieter signal , and wouldn’t have to push the 3A as hard.
@@Tim_ArtistName_Tallent I've noticed the tone difference in the CLA compression and I've come to the assumption that it is meant to emulate his particular sound rather then the compressors themselves. He has a tendency to use an SSL boost/cut and puts that into his compression. Just an educated guess but hopefully that can give you some ideas for the future.
@@InsaneCarville that is helpful, and appreciated. I’m finally to the point where I don’t jump to the latest and greatest plug ins and hardware, but tend to spend more time getting it right at the source and really learning to use the tools I have. But subtle tricks like that go a long way
How do i use this plug in on vocals?
I've. mixed that track before
I kind of hate you because I'm sure it's YOU making everything sound so damn good :D can I buy your ears?
😂😂
The secret is in the haircut.
@@marin4311 no, it's definitely his workout
£44 ($57 USD) Not bad. I was expecting a bit more
Does anybody else find that the GR meter isn't particularly accurate? It says it's giving me about 1dB of GR, but my meters tell me it's more like 4 or 5. Anybody shed some light on this?
It's most likely the response time. Klanghelm's VU meter has a similar quirk.
@@AndreiSora You're absolutely right. There is an update for this now with a faster VU meter.
Ideally we should be mixing with our ears, but...I like a visual representation to match what my ears are hearing.
At this point in time I think it's even stupid to waste money in plugins to get a great sound. So many free options out there... No excuses.
I just bought probably another 10 just the past 2 weeks. There are some great free plugins but definitely not a replacement for professional tools, and maybe it's just me because I'm used to hw, but the price of plugins is really nothing. Again tho', all depends on the context, you do this professionally you need professional tools (and also need pretty much everything because clients pass you sessions)
@@mixbustv when I buy GE versions of TDR plugins though, I gotta be honest part of the purchase is to support TDR so that they keep releasing amazing stuff for free that everybody can use. It is very inspiring how professional these plugins are yet how powerful even the free versions are.
If I have the money to get a slightly fancier version of TDR's stuff and support the company so others who dont have the cash can keep accessing their awesome free plugins then that actually matters to me a lot.
Where has Bella been ?
Oh she was probably behind me on the couch writing
