“You’re not playing the intervals, you’re playing the sound of the scale”. Man, that’s solid advice. This video really helped some theory click for me. Probably obvious to some, but I never noticed the link between relative minors and the modes.
Hi Rick, You... man, you are my new best friend! Thanks for the comment and perceptions. I watched your performance on one of your vids and I wrote a comment. I was truly very impressed...so I'm very flattered to have you as a follower or student. We are now compadres.... so let's connect on a higher level. Please write to my email, so we can have a conversation.
@@KentHewittpiano88 well I’ll tell you what. Next summer I’m coming to your camp in Maine. I was thinking “hey maybe sometime in the next few years” but now it’s top on my list. Looking forward to lobster and jazz sir.
Nice one man! That format made it really easy to digest the information. Like I was hanging with my buddy showing me a cool thing he learned. Off the cuff as you put it. Here's a scale, here's a simple change it can work over, here's why it works over that change, and here are some examples of how to use it. Bottle that process up and I will drink heavily from it! Thanks!!!🙏
Perfect timing thank you Kent. Just started working on improving minor scales in the few last days. "unscripted" lets your tremendous knowledge flow ( + that smartmouthed ADEM fellow never needs a script !)
Thank you for that one my man… That is information I did not have until now. Especially that fifth chord with the flat 9 and sharp 5 resolving better to the minor chord then a regular G7! I am applying that information to the tune Temptation as performed by Diana Krall… Thanks again bro, keep up the good work! P.S. I now have a better understanding of the harmonic minor scale as well :-)
Fantastic 👍
Thank you Kent! You're a wonderful teacher; it's a blessing to receive such priceless wisdom from a seasoned jazz pianist.
Greta...yes GREAT comment...very helpful...a million thanks!

Funny Valentine it's a Great song . . It's interesting how it's played slow and sometimes fast. But it works at either tempo. I like it up.

Always happy to join "the Herbster" in your audience! XOXO - M
In general, one might consider all the chords of minor 2-5-1 as being ultimately derived from the harmonic minor scale.
Good observation...thanks for the comment!
Great stuff, as always.
Thank you. I got so much from this. Recently subscribed, I look forward to your tutorials.
So good!

This is good but as a predominantly guitar player you just go to fast.
