Hi Joe, Thank you for the great review. I have a room that is 20 x 17 feet but I use only half of it to watch tv and movies. Would you recommend one 12" or 2 x10" for this room?
I would go 2x10" because you have a better chance of reducing nulls in your room where bass is being cancelled out by reflections off of walls. You will also have more output with 2 vs one 12".
Could you do, or can you direct me to someone who has DIRECTLY compared the Monolith 10, and the SVS PB1000? Seems like everyone says away from this match up, when they BOTH are natural contenders..... both 10", both ported, both $499. I already have a PB1000, but am about to go with duals.... trying to figure out should I get a second PB1000, or sell it and get dual Monolith 10's? Really could use some graphs or something showing side by side testing. I'm stuck........
@@joentell I just finished setup and calibration as best I could. My goodness these sound incredible. The bass is effortless and are now a nice compliment to my Klipsch Reference premier speakers. My previous subs were budget subs and just sounded boomy. Now no more audible boom, just deep clean bass. It has entirely transformed how the rest of my setup sounds. Even the wife noticed lol. I'm afraid my neighbors are gonna notice too.
I bought one a few months ago. I love it. I want to get another one but I think it may be be overkill considering the room it's in is about 150 sq. ft. ( 1176 Cubic ft.).
Maybe to get smoother bass response, not necessarily for louder bass. Check with a mic to see if you have any nulls/dips in the bass response in your listening position. That would be the purpose of adding the second sub.
@@dominus519 not just better.. deeper & +3dB of headroom. I get +9dB when I place it in corners.. so less abusing gear😎 Use Bose T8S DSP (low volume music eq) with dbx 360(flat EQ) thank me later on. I cut frequencies below 40hz so that gear lasts longer.
Yes it is more than enough for 99 percent of people. I used to use a Hsu 15 mk2 at my old house but since my son is bigger now and would destroy it (2.5 years old) I use a Samsung q90r soundbar now and dont miss my old 15 that much.
Heavier panels = lower panel resonance frequency. Sealing up a vented subwoofer = low Q sealed subwoofer. Nice for getting down into single digit frequencies at low SPLs...
Nice review Joe N Tell. Have you looked into the HSU VTF2 MK 5 sub? Would you be able to compare the two.I know it costs 40 bucks more than the Monolith.I hear it's an even better sub.
The SB would be a significant step back for HT since it's a sealed sub. The PB would be a better choice but the monolith still has an edge over the pb in terms of deep bass. If you can up your budget another $116 though the HSU Research VTF2 MK5 will outperform both and is arguably the best HT sub under $850 new. Not unless you build your own sub.
I just got dual monolith 10 subwoofers and I like them. The sound is very similar to my SVS SB2000. The SVS having slightly more output by just a hair and slightly cleaner bass. The monolith are very well insulated and I get no rattles.
I wouldn't recommend these for 2 channel unless you have an integrated amp or AVR that could add delay to your main speakers to blend it with these subs that use DSP. DSP causes a delay that needs to be compensated for.
@@joentell Here's a question that a lot of people would be curious about. I was just on Amazon.ca and the Monolith 15" is $2k CAD vs 2 of the 10's are $1600 CAD. Which would sound better and have more output? The 15 or the 2 10's? Imo, I'd go for the 2 10's and still have $400 left over.
Any idea why the updated version of this is the only sub in the monolith THX lineup that has a curve option that amplifies upwards past 30hz, instead of flat and down? I feel this is critical to get the sub 35hz to sound even. And yeah, this thing is a beast. I can't believe it's not a 12 inch.

How does it compare to Klipsch subwoofers. I have a Klipsch SPL-150 an two teufel 12 inch subs. The low bass is good but the upper bass is lacking compared to active towerspeakers like Teufel Power HIFI.
@@joentell ok I will. But I got this Monolith paired with an RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII and man I don’t think I really need to check out THX’s chart. Lol. Thanks for the video and suggestion. 😎👍.
For anyone who's on the fence between mono 10 and pb 1000 for movies and gaming , get the mono. I had the pb bought the mono to compare it and ended up returning the pb 1000. You won't regret it, this thing shakes my 3 story house.
I think they're both excellent. I'm using both at the moment. Almost exactly the same size. Different looks and SVS has DSP you can adjust on the app if that matters to you. You're going to have to look at the specs on both and think about which criteria are most important to you.
@@AbsoluteFidelity I have a dedicated theater room and bought the pb 1000 first, it was a good sub but nothing to amazin. Decided to try out the mono 10 and wow , the mono 10 is smoother and literally shakes a 3 story house. Also the mono is super heavy built like a tank.
Interesting speaker. I might've gotten this one if I knew about it a month ago. I got the SVS PB-2000 - a beast. What do you think about the PB-2000 compared to the Monolith?
Usually the value to performance ratio is higher for the Monolith's just looking at specs. But SVS also offers their app and awesome customer support. You gotta weigh the options. You can't really go wrong either way
Great review of this very affordable sub! Gonna pick one up soon. Any other subs you recommend at this price point (or cheaper) that goes down sub 20hz?
I love monoprice and I actually really like the look of this sub. My sub money though, goes to SVS, which has far superior customer service. Also, their Customer Bill of Rights is legit and the stories of them bending over backwards for their customers are all over the internet. Monoprice subs... not so much.
Man. I’m in LA as well. Small house. Currently using an SB 1000 pro and was considering the sb2000 pro. For both movies and vinyl. The app is awesome. Not sure to upgrade to the sb2000 or go to a pb 1000 pro. The size of the pb puts me off a bit (small living room). Thoughts?

When some sound frequencies is boosted the boosted frequencies is going to be heard more and that is not good for frequencies that is not boosted coz you will not hear the non boosted frequencies you will only hear the boosted frequencies so this THX Equalizer is very bad for sound reproduction
I wonder what's the best 8-6 inch sub for a reasonable price? I need something even smaller that hits down to around 20-30 Hz, Just to add some flava ya know ? ;)
It's unfortunate that this is no longer available. I was able to find one source that's selling and it's over $650 which there is definitely better options such as rsl speedwoofer for $400 or the mk2 for $450. Also PB-1000 non pro model is still available for $500...
how big is this subwoofer? is it as big as the SVS PB 1000 Pro and which one's better out of those two subs? I have a PB 2000 Pro Will the monoprice pair up good with my PB 2000 Pro if I decide to go with that one again which one's better
This and the PB1000 pro are pretty evenly matched. You could go with either and be happy. I think the PB1000 Pro can play maybe 1hz deeper and a little louder by a few dB in my room. Not a huge difference.
I think a single 12 would be impressive, but there will most likely be some nulls in the bass response somewhere. Dual 10's would help with that. Or you could go with a single 12" with he plan to upgrade to 2 in the future. I think dual 10's would be MORE than enough though.
hey Joe, I usually set up subwoofer one time with the calibration and rarely touched it unless it sounded weird and suspect family member touched it. Question: what do you think what quality of a sub that made us feel to the bone like in the dance club and movie? low frequencies like this 16hz sub with higher dB? ported vs sealed? or by sheer physics: size of the subwoofer? say in a 1000sf room.
I tested the PB3000 vs the SB3000 and it knocks it out of the park, it sounds louder, deeper, and definitely lower. I have a Sonos sub too in my room, and I love that little thing, but the Sonos ARC and Sub don't even come close to the emersion/sound that my 2.1 SVS Ultra Bookshelves and the PB3000 do...it is freaking awesome to me! I wanted to get the REL15 during their black Friday sale for 11000 from Adorama, but they didn't offer free returns (You have to pay for the shipping back to them) so I decided on the PB3000. I might try one of these Monolith for my 2.1 computer setup...but I'm still tempted to listen to the 15 REL....
Hi Joe, will this work for 2 Channel Stereo? if no then whats you recommendation for 2 Channel Stereo beside's REL as we do not have REL dealer in our country. Thank you for your great videos.
Pretty much any sub that doesn't use DSP. Can you get any of the OSD Black ones shipped to you? The problem is that DSP adds a delay. If you are using an AVR on integrated amp that can add delay on your main speakers to match the delay on the sub, you'll be ok.

My goal is to give you the information to make the best decision for yourself. I've only reviewed the SB2000 and SB3000. Love them both also.
Other Joe!! Great work my friend… I’ve been thinking about the THX 13 or the SVS pb 3000. That app and costumer of SVS is hard to pass up. This is actually a very hard decision… appreciate you bruda
Maybe look up some CEA 2010 data on both and see which specs are most important to you. The app is handy on the SVS, but less important with an AVR since the EQ and levels can be set there.
I came close to getting this sub. But ended up going with the sb4000. Mainly because the size and power. Huge price difference. But I'm happy with my decision.
The general consensus is that both are great subs but that the HSU is the better sub due to it's VTF flexibility, slightly better performance in the below 20HZ range and it's more balanced in the mid bass range. There are also a few more longevity complaints with the Monolith subs than HSU.

Thanks for the review. Bought the 10” today using your referral code. They are also having a sale, so that made the purchase easier :)
I have two Monolith 12 - would two Monolith 10's integrate well with them if tuned with software ?
Hi Joe,
Thank you for the great review.
Thanks Joe , and happy New years
would you choose this or a svs pb 10 or speedwoofer?
I've got 2 of them arriving Saturday!
Wow! Let me know what you think when they arrive.
Monoprice has really come out with some competitive subs this past year 🤘 nice video bud
Trust me, 2 is always better! 🙂
@@dominus519 not just better.. deeper & +3dB of headroom. I get +9dB when I place it in corners.. so less abusing gear😎
Use Bose T8S DSP (low volume music eq) with dbx 360(flat EQ) thank me later on.
I use a 110" projector and I don't think any sound bar would really do it justice. ;-)
@@joentell Youre that 1 percent
Yes, you're probably right and this Monolith THX 10 is enough for my setup...maybe 2 of them might be nice 😂
Is that the same dimensions or larger? Also, I've asked HSU if they wanted me to review their stuff and they weren't interested.
@@joentell It's a front firing 12, a bit larger.
HSU is miles better than monolith not only in quality and sound, but in customer support as well. Monoprice customer support is absolute garbage.
@@whitenooduhl8245 The only thing true about this statement is the customer service
between this and the svs sb1000 for home cinema? thanks
The monolith are very well insulated and I get no rattles.
whats the difference between this and the M-12?
per specs i see the 12 is louder but the 10 goes as deep?
I wish you would have included on how it performed musically to your ears compared to others. I don't do home theater. I do 2.2 stereo.
I wouldn't recommend these for 2 channel unless you have an integrated amp or AVR that could add delay to your main speakers to blend it with these subs that use DSP. DSP causes a delay that needs to be compensated for.
@@joentell ya joe..add music to your reviews? Even movies have music in them. Appreciate you and your channel.
Hey Joe, how did you setup. how do you setup the setting on the back?
That would take an entire video to explain
Any idea why the updated version of this is the only sub in the monolith THX lineup that has a curve option that amplifies upwards past 30hz, instead of flat and down? I feel this is critical to get the sub 35hz to sound even.
And yeah, this thing is a beast. I can't believe it's not a 12 inch.
I am doing a complete home theater overhaul and am buying one of these to start. Looking forward to it.
Let me know how it goes. Excited for you!
Those mono's look incredible. I went a whole different direction with car subs. Huge bang for the money.
Great video! Was just trying to buy with your referral link but its broken. It says "the product you're looking for is no longer available." Maybe its using the id of v1?
Fixing it now. Thank you.
I am trying out the SVS sb 3000 I like the sound but it just feels like I am missing something like the feeling on you body. I have two Klipsch SW 112 PB but they sound muddy. what's sub? would you get the monolith 10 or SVs pb 1000 Pro I already have the 12-in SVS PB 2000 Pro. love it!
have you done one of these with the speedwoofer 12s?
How does it compare to Klipsch subwoofers. I have a Klipsch SPL-150 an two teufel 12 inch subs.
The low bass is good but the upper bass is lacking compared to active towerspeakers like Teufel Power HIFI.
My living room is 14.5’ x 15.5’. Is this Monolith 10” sub a good option for that size room?
Check to see on THX's website if this certification matches your room size.
@@joentell ok I will. But I got this Monolith paired with an RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII and man I don’t think I really need to check out THX’s chart. Lol. The Monolith is definitely a beast, and the Speedwoofer makes it a ferocious beast. The Monolith is definitely more than enough by itself for my room. Both subs together just round out everything.
Can you please tell me the pros and cons for both these subs? Im so torn between both of them... and now we have the pb1000 pro...
I think they're both excellent. I'm using both at the moment. Almost exactly the same size. Different looks and SVS has DSP you can adjust on the app if that matters to you. You're going to have to look at the specs on both and think about which criteria are most important to you.
@@joentell im a regular Joe, and I want it to play deep, loud and proud. App isnt important to me, im just kinda old fashioned. Lol!

You can't really go wrong either way
I have two subwoofer a 10 inch and a 12 inch monolith on my home theater what do you recommend for a receiver I currently have onkyo tx-rz810
Great review of this very affordable sub! Gonna pick one up soon. Any other subs you recommend at this price point (or cheaper) that goes down sub 20hz?
This thing is pretty beast. I'm currently reviewing SVS's PB-1000 Pro. Maybe I'll do a head to head.
Happy New Year 2021 Nice sub , I have 4 klipsch 12 inch subs and 1 klipsch 15 inch sub in a 12 × 18 ft. room
What is the other sub next to this in the beginning with the active woofer and passive radiators? Trevoce12?
Correct

I love monoprice and I actually really like the look of this sub. My sub money though, goes to SVS, which has far superior customer service. Also, their Customer Bill of Rights is legit and the stories of them bending over backwards for their customers are all over the internet. Monoprice subs... not so much.

Probably an even match

When some sound frequencies is boosted the boosted frequencies is going to be heard more and that is not good for frequencies that is not boosted coz you will not hear the non boosted frequencies you will only hear the boosted frequencies so this THX Equalizer is very bad for sound reproduction
I wonder what's the best 8-6 inch sub for a reasonable price?
I need something even smaller that hits down to around 20-30 Hz,
Just to add some flava ya know ? ;)
Sold out, they are out of stock until 8/9/2021
So what you're saying is the two Monolith 15s that I just ordered are complete and utter overkill?
Nope...that's perfect! 😎
Had mine for a few months and its nuts in the room I have it in. Hits above its price point IMO!
2:11 does doing this damage the driver?
So, for a 18x18 room would you recommend a single 12 or a pair of 10s? It's $200 moe for the 10s but that's a lot more air that they will be moving.
You didn't review the RSL speed woofer 10. What about that one
do you find the 10 monolith has more output than the sb3k?...can the 3k not go down as deep as the mono 10 having so much more power?
@@joentell No Even OSD's I cant buy and shipping costs exorbitant, however we have SVS dealer here, so any recommendation on SVS Sub for Music, for my Tube integrated amp. it has no Sub out.

@@joentell I will be replacing 2 10 inch klipsch SW-450 down firing subs in my living room soon. Should I go with two Monolith M-10s or two of the M-12s ? How would you compare this to a HSU ULS-15 MK2?
How is this paired with Klipsch The Fives?
Maybe overkill, but it depends on the room size and how far you are.
Thought about getting the 10, but after years of trying to be budget conscious, and ending up spending more in the long run.....I ordered 2 15s. I'm sure the 10 is solid, but if you can find a way to swing it...... do the 15s. They..... are.....IMPRESSIVE.
Im loving this subwoofer but only problem i have with it the power will cut out randomly then flash green and red i have disconnect for 20 secs then reconnect and powers back up again

Maybe look up some CEA 2010 data on both and see which specs are most important to you. The app is handy on the SVS, but less important with an AVR since the EQ and levels can be set there.
Is it enough though? My 3.3x3.7m might need two of those.
How does this compare to hsu research subs? What sub is the value king?
I've never reviewed HSU so I can't say

Monoprice has dB advantage at 20hz but 31hz+ the svs sb4000 beats it
However considering the sb4000 is 4.5 X the price not really fair
Hey joe n tell do u have any experience with Hsu research vtf 2 mk5 sub?
The general consensus is that both are great subs but that the HSU is the better sub due to it's VTF flexibility, slightly better performance in the below 20HZ range and it's more balanced in the mid bass range. There are also a few more longevity complaints with the Monolith subs than HSU.
