I haven't thought about Rocky and Lightning in dozens of years. For some reason it came up strong on me tonight and so I look on RUclips and here is a long list of videos of Rocky's career I never knew existed. My buddies and I followed Lightning at a place in Dallas called "Sneaky Pete's". Home Again was their show stopper. Rocky and the boys were heroes for us, we were maybe 18 and getting into bars with dubious ID... I'm 64 now... We saw Lightning a lot. Great to see many videos tonight, like this one. I hope Rocky is ok. Sounding greater than ever!
Did you ever see Too Smooth? I went to sneaky Pete’s and Rocky came in and took notes of Brian Wooten’s guitar playing. And Chris skiles left lightning and went with too smooth with don tounsley
Didn’t know of him but saw a story on him in vintage guitar magazine. First video I checked and he’s excellent. Cool that he knew Stevie back in middle school too.
NIce. I'm in a Villanova rabbit hole for 2 days now, lol. Let me say yours is special because you nailed key movements of this song and also made it your own, adding your own touches and extending some improv. Just like Jimi would have every single time he played it live, had he lived. And everyone should remember this video is not an at home recording someone did 30 takes of before they posted it. This is a one shot is all you get - and you nailed it. I'm sure you often do.
How Beautiful is this!! Damn I love the way this man can play a guitar. It stuns me! No matter how many times ( and it is everyday) I listen I just can't believe it... I heard him first via a friend from this venue. My Bucket List has one thing on it and that is to see him play and real close so I can watch those fingers fly and those little flips with his hand and smile. I am listening again right now. I think I am reverberating. HA. Love You Rock Athas and all of you. You make my day every day... my head is cocked. My smile is subtle as I am part stunned and part thrilled. Thank you for being born ha. Love Deb
Always the pro to your fans & fellow players , the few clips i sent you when we still had G+ you listened to & left very awesome comments which i can't tell you how cool that was. Rocky i checked to see if you may be headed to the Washington DC or Virginia area as i would love to see you & the band but it would seem you are not coming this way & that's a bummer . I can't get out to Texas but if i could you & the band would be the first thing i would care to see & hear & if i had enough luck maybe even speak with you live & not the net. Keep up the great work & even though your Shakin Off the Dust is still fairly new i can't wait for the next collaboration You & the band has in store , Stay well & all the best from a fellow player & big fan.
I first saw rocky at a hole in the wall bar in oak cliff in 1988, he did a set of Robin Trower songs..better then Robin! He is phenomenal and a nice guy to boot!
@@RockyAthas first heard Rocky on RUclips Blackoak Arkansas live "Post Toastee" a 1998 clip. Sooo epic. Phrasing and tone fit the song groove so we'll. Really made it fly or the song gave the guitar the updraft to soar. I don't know. My favorite version of Post Toastee.
@@thomasjohnson7735 I first saw Rocky when he was playing at a 1996 Tommy Bolin Tribute show at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. He was the master at playing Bolin's music!.
Okay, it's good. But anyone who's been to a Hendrix gig (I did, at 16) knows that you can't copy Jimi. Feel, touch, emotion, blues and soul. The maestro of rock.
Cool playing! Really hard to keep the feel of this song while improvising though. Even Jimi lost it a few times. The is one magical part of the song where it sounds almost Arabic, you should have included that as well, it’s essential
Thanks a million from Canada. First heard on Tough with John Mayall. Saw him twice. Want to buy Miracle but can't afford it. will have to rely on RUclips for now. Thanks again for ur kind reply.

I always liked Rocky’s playing. He is a wonderful guitar player
Blinding guitar! Is still hear some old Lightning ⚡ in those licks! So great 👍🎵🎶
Jimi kicked the door down in 1967 for all those who followed!
Magic guitar .
Didn’t know of him but saw a story on him in vintage guitar magazine. First video I checked and he’s excellent. Cool that he knew Stevie back in middle school too.
Sublime playing, touch and tone - Rocky has it all. I wish I had some of it!!
Thanks for the kind words, my friend.
Great guitar playing!!!!

Thanks for listening, my friend. ✌️
Why can't people shut the F up when great music is being played.
He used to play this occasionally (all or part) back at Sneaky Pete's...usually to end a set.
i just ordered my first Rocky Athas cd. Want Miracle but too expensive. Love his playing.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy!
