impressive review. I enjoyed watching the 120fps slow motion clips, full zoom video examples and image stabilization. It really shows the amazing capabilities of this camera.
Great review! I bought the fz about a year ago and love it!, yes there are the negatives but for $1000, I'm blown away with its results.....again great review and I also thought the red head was filmed with the GH4.....
9:39 I've done a lot of work in the high framerate mode - the zebra and even the histogram turn off, so you can't use them to help with mitigating the horrible auto exposure. Depends on the conditions, but my advice is to use the "natural" color profile and then "eyeball" it and dial the general exposure as low as you need to in order to preserve details in highlights, then readjust to bring out the shadows a little bit. Couldn't get any info about what settings are prioritised in this mode (shutter, aperture, ISO), but I assume ISO is lowered first and increased only if the aperture is wide open and the shutter is set to 180 degrees. All of this takes time, so plan accordingly. IS turns off in slowmo, so a relatovely heavy tripod with a fluid head and a steady hand are necessary if you'll want to pan.
I'm waiting for the FZ1000 to be delivered. I watched all of your video including the one about SD cards for GH4. Really helpful advice for low budget enthusiast. I guess the same applies for the FZ1000? I was wondering how much 4k footage do you manage to record with a 64GB card? And also how much of 1080p at different FPS? Tnx in advance. Keep up the work!
I recently picked it up as a travel camera so that I don't have to take my DSLR and multiple lenses. Had the FZ150 and really liked the stills it produced.
Thank you Max, great series of video's. I see you compared it to the GH4 which is a lot more expensive. How about compared to the Rebel series or D5300 series camera's? This sensor IS smaller, but on DPREVIEW when doing side-by-side comparisons in stills, FZ1000 holds it's own, even against my D7000! I don't own this FZ1000 camera yet, I'm waiting for CP+ next week. But three features I like that you did not mention are: 1) 12fps full 20mp shooting. Most DSLR's can't touch that. 2) Silent mode with electronic shutter, NO click! I love this for candid photos, documentary work, or inside churches, museums, etc. 3) Can pull 8mp stills off of the 4k video at 30fps, no buffer to worry about! Many of my clients want images for websites and this will do just fine when "just the exact right moment" is needed. For example: Your baptism shoot, I would do that in 4k and have both awesome video AND "decent" (I hope you agree) still images, too! Bob at DigitalMission dot US. Thanks again!
Hi Robert, Those are great points you made. Against the D7000 and rebel cameras this one (as far as image quality) will do well. I'm not sure compared to D5300 as that has the same sony sensor that is in the D7100 (very good sensor). One limitation of this camera that may not affect you is having the built in lens. For photos I like to be able to get shallow dept of field shots and with a 1" sensor and F2.8-F4 lens its really hard to do unless you zoom in to 200+. Having the FZ1K at 50mm equiv (lets say its still at F2.8 there which it may not be) and shooting at 50mm equiv on your d7000 F2.8 your results would be much different. The D7000 will be much shallow DOF. To have the DOF match between the cameras you'd have to set your D7000 somewhere around F5.6-F8 (estimate) and the FZ1000K at 2.8. I guess it depends on what you'd be shooting. If your shooting landscapes that could be a benefit for you. You can definitely pull great still from 4k video but one issue you run into in shutter speed. For proper looking video you want your shutter speed to be double your frame rate (so 1/60th for 30FPS) The video will look good but if your subject is moving when you pull the frame it will be blurred. If you change your shutter to 1/125 or higher the video will have a stuttery look but the images pulled from 4k will be sharp. If you are interested in the camera I'd say pick it up somewhere with a good return policy, (Amazon & B&H are fantastic and it supports my channel) and if it doesn't work for your needs you can return it. If you feel like checking it out here's the last wedding photo I shot (I stopped doing them currently) with the D7100 so same sensor as D5300. yourstorybymax.com/blog/portfolio_page/andrey-veronica-camden-ranch-wedding-venue/
Thanks for writing back Max. I went to Whitworth for two years and love your area. Now I live in Thailand and help mission groups with media needs. Wonderful venue for your wedding shots, and some fantastic pix, too! Will comment more on optics/photo/video another day. Waiting for CP+ before I make a decision on another cam. Hey, I love The Doves shot the best, great sun refractions, too. Bless ya!
Thanks for this comparison. Some hints: - the GH4 (in comparison to the fz1000) is weather-sealed and dust-proof - the GH4 has a touch screen, the fz doesn't - the lighting, white balance or aperture seems to change during your shots. Or maybe it's caused by your NLE using color correction.
Did you experience any differences between both cameras concerning auto focus? The Gh4 is pretty slow and hunts a lot to get the focus right in UHD and cinema 4k. 1080 altough seems just fine. How about the FZ1000: Does it a have a quicker auto focus then the Gh4?
I have never used any kind of autofocus with the GH4 as I've never used native lenses with the camera only Nikon and Canon lenses using metabones speedboosters. I know the GH4 is not reliable with autofocus and the Fz1000 uses the same focus system (as far as I've read) as the GH4 so I would say it's Equality not reliable. If you want something with good autofocus I would keep my eye on the Samsung NX1, by the specs it's listed as using phase detection for autofocus during video and if that's the case it should be very good like the 70D.

Thanks Max, a really useful video :) My FZ1000 is on its way to me right now, so I will be viewing all of your relevant videos, and gaining some valuable tips I am sure.
This was taken in 2014, we are now in 2017. Do you still think that the FZ 1000 is not good for photos??? It is a huge compliment to the FZ 1000 to be compared with the GH4. I am still deciding. .... Thank you for your great videos.
Hi Max, thanks for the review. I'm trying to find out if the FZ1000 shows up as a webcam when connected to USB on a computer? I've searched around but can't find a clear answer. I'm looking for this functionality as I need a simple workflow for one-person production, where I can record straight onto the Mac without having to remove cards, import footage, etc. I don't want to use a wide-angle webcam as the image isn't suitable for my needs. Many thanks.
dude you really convinced me to try this camera out! I have an older Canon 7d and I am sure that this 4K camera in video will out perform that. I will still keep my 7D for stills. I want to use 4K to get two shots for one angle to compliment a 1080p production. It's this right now or save up for 16months for a sony fs7. But I think this new tech gives me what I need for $900 without having to spend money on any new lens!!! It will carry me over for a while! Till I can upgrade to a more profession video camera. I appreciate your hard work and reviews man!
I want to buy a Panasonic bridge camera and I want to make a choice between the FZ300 or the FZ1000 or the FZ1000 mark2. I mainly want to use it for macro and sometimes for landscape and birds. Is there a big difference in photo quality in normal light? What does the crop factor of 2.7 mean for the Fz1000 mark2? Which one can give you a nice blurry background in macro?
I would prefer a DSLR for stills too, far better quality for the money. This is an amazing second camera for fun. The second video had a red head, people will always be biased to choose a red head.
Mr Max Yuryev, have you tried the FZ1000 on portraits with a black background? How did they turn out? I am new to filming. Will be shooting with a black backdrop. Your video has helped me a lot so thanks.
Hi Max! Im new to photographing and video shooting, im looking for a good all around camera for around 6-700 dollars. I thing i will mostly shoot nature and some times time lapses. Im intrested in the FZ1000 but im not sure if thats the best choice. What do you think? Regards
In that price range this is going to be your best bet. You won't get as good of results compared to a higher end DSLR with good lenses but that would be in the $3000-$5000 price range. This will be a great start and if you find you enjoy it and the gear is the biggest limit not your skills, you can step up later. amzn.to/2in3KNo this is slightly ($97) over your budget, but if you can go for it do. Don't save a few hunder and go with a different power zoom, they have MUCH smaller sensors the image quality will be noticeably worse. amzn.to/2in3KNo
great overview. Have you tried any Sony RX10m3 or m4? I have the RX10m3 and it is heavy and AF misses a lot at telephoto above 200mm. It is also expensive and I'd be worried to take it on a boat or kayak (even if in a drybag). It is slow to start up. Now the Lumix FZ1000 can be had under 600 dollars and I wonder if I could get it as every day take with me camera. I shoot photo gigs with A6300 and A7ii with primes but it is nice to have an all in one with telephoto to shoot some context and details images. What is you opinion? FZ2000 is better weather sealed, but also larger and a lot more expensive.
I have been panicking this weekend, I've considered Canom M50, Lumix G7, Lumix GH4, Sony a6000, a6300, a6500. And I've been shooting with a couple Canon XC15s for this weekend, and this camera reminds me of the XC15 (which I love) a lot.
I bought an FZ 1000 two weeks ago, September 2024, for $250. It's a great camera, and even better when I learn how to get more out of it. How do I enable the i zoom function? In the menu I can't highlight it. Thanks for your video.
Great 4K video! But how come I cannot adjust the value between iso 6400 and 128,00? It jump from 6400 to 12800? How to extend it to 25600 iso? I like to set at 20,000 iso for night shot.
Dear Max, Is it possible to mirror through HDMI output (camera display not turned off while outputting on monitor through HDMI cable)? Thank you in advance.
I'm sold. I need a replacement for my FZ200 which was an awesome camera but wore out. The fact that this camera is almost the same size as my T3i is the clincher. You seem to make that sound like a negative, but I hate cameras that are so small you can't even hold them correctly. And the 1080p at 120 fps is awesome. I currently shoot a lot of 120 fps at 720 and Motor Cross Photography fans love it!
Tim Turner Sweet enjoy the camera. Everyones uses are different so opinion is a lot of it :) as far as I know this is the best bridge cameras available right now.
I really appreciate your excellent review videos. They are frank, honest and among the best on the web. I'm giving up my Canon 60d and trying to decide between the GX7, Sony a6000 and this camera. I'm not a pro and video is not a high priority for me. I do, however, like the extended zoom range in 4K mode and the fact that I can extract 8 megapixel stills from 4K video. This could be very handy in nature photography when you often can't get very close to the subject. I like to do nature close up, insects, flowers, etc., and wildlife and have always thought I needed interchangeable lenses but now, this camera makes me wonder why. I haven't made up my mind yet but your videos are helping. Thanks and keep them coming.
I just purchased this camera for casual use. I'm going on a trip to Europe and wanted something that takes good pictures/Better than my iphone. If I'm not a pro and just a beginner. Will I be impressed with this camera? Thanks! loved the video!
Yeah its nice i am thinking of getting one as B-cam mostly because image stabilisation. But now there is the FZ300 as well... With fixed 2.8 aperture, weather sealing and touch screen for a lower price. Did you try that out also? I know smaller sensor but does it really matter on this type of camera....
The fz300 is terrible. The picture quality is worse than a mid-high end smartphone in 2016-17. And its 1080p video is utter crap. Only usable at 4k. FZ1000 is VASTLY better and totally worth any price difference.
Even the 120fps shots are much sharper and more noiseless than my Pen E-PL5 at 30 fps. This camera is amazing. Does it has an input for remote? Is it able to switch between 30, 25 and 24 fps. The EU version of this camera will get 25p mode.
Hi. Enjoy your videos. This But sorry I didn't understand very well. How log this camera can record video. It's possible at leat to record 30 mn in high quality? Thanks
Thanks. wish you sucess. The this is I have a Cannon 1200 D and in high format and qality only record 12mn. To record 30 I have to decrease the size of the video. So I was wondering if the Panasonic do better that this. Thanks
Thanks for the videos on this camera, I really appreciate the information. I'm just getting into photography and was going to use this to focus on stills mainly on landscape for when I go to Hawaii and taking pictures in NYC. Now I guess I should go the DSLR route so it's back to the drawing board.
Max Yuryev On the telephoto end on a DSLR, the combined weight would be quite heavy. I am interested in this camera for the tele end for 4K. I would probably pair this up with my A7s, and use the A7s for low ISO and wide shots.
Great review, I thought the 120 fps looked far better than you said, as for guessing which lady was recorded with which camera is anyone's guess unless one of the cameras had a horrible hue to it or was out of focus. It'd have looked the same if it was recorded with a cheap point and shoot in 1080p. Perfect light and fixed focus can be done with almost any old digital camera. The test would have been better if it wasn't in a controlled environment
Hi Max. Great video, it was so useful! However, I am torn between getting the FZ1000 and LX100 and was just wondering what you would personally get/prefer? Cheers!
Rupesh Patel Hi Rupesh! If you don't need the very long zoom lens, or the flip out screen of the Fz1K I'd get the LX100 for sure! It is slightly better in low light and has a faster lens, but is limited on the zoom range.
hi loved the video and subscribed, i have a question, did you try taking any stills of your 4k video and was the quality similar to if you take the photo with the camera?
Hi Max, greetings from a fellow Spokanite. I currently use an EOS 5D Mk2 with 25-104 and 300mm zoom lenses. We're going vacationing in Glacier Nat. Park this summer and I want to buy a single-lens camera and 4k video is a plus. Do you still think the FZ1000 is a contender? Obviously my 5D Mk2 will give better results on stills when I have time to swap lenses and mount the flash, but for casual vacation (and video) use I'm considering the FZ1000. Thanks, --jim
Hi Jim! Greetings :) Yes I think the FZ1000K will be perfect for you. It should be small and quite a bit lighter than what your using now, and with a great zoom range as well as the 4k video and really good image stabilization. Go for it, and enjoy your trip to Glacier!
Excellent review, Max! My wife has a Sony NEX-7 and when using 1080/60p, it overheats after a few minutes. It could be a cold day and the camera will still overheat. My friend has a Canon 7D and it overheats too. Any overheating problems with the FZ1000 at 4K or 1080p?
***** Also, noticed that when you zoomed in on the 2 eagles, there was no CA (purple fringing). Did you get any and processed them out or is the FZ1000's lens that good? Thanks!
Many thanks for making this video - I was given my FZ1000 but had not thought much about the video capacity. I will try using it for wildlife video. I'm guessing the zoom will be good for this? I live in Africa and the light here is pretty bright most of the time, so the low light downsides should be less of a problem for me? So far I am loving it - a huge improvement on what I had!
Hi Max, i want to purchase a flash gun for my fz 1000 kindly guide me in this... Furthermore, which third party equipment for fz 1000 is compatible with?
I will tell you my requirements. And Could you please suggest me the camera? I am a video maker of action videos, motorcycles, high speed flyby, I really love the ability to go 120 FPS. I don't need 4K right now but maybe a few years down the line it might become useful. I really love to go out there and vlog with the in built stabilization is amazing for me... I don't care much about stills, what this camera does it definitely enough. I do like the sharpness of a prime lens and I understand that I will lose that feature in this, so product reviews will be tough. So here is what I want, Action clips slo mo, indoor vlogs with good light setup, outdoor vlogs handheld and in all situations, a bit of product review where I need detailed video shots, macro and blurring the background... Can I do all of this from one camera? Finally, if the lens gets damaged, what do I do? Can it be replaced at the service center at least with another same lens?
I think the RX100mk4 would be better for you. Flip up screen for vlogging, 120FPS is better than this, also has higher frame rates. The zoom range is limited though, so if you need to zoom in a ton that could be a problem, but overall the RX100mk4 is a much better vlogging camera. amzn.to/2c8L9PB .
I just watched 4 reviews of RX100 MK4, Here are the things I don't like.. No external mic support 5 mins of 4K only? It does get 1080 240 frames per seconds and you are right the quality is better, but can it do that for a long period of time? (This is my main doubt cause my shots are much longer- say 3 mins or so) I cut in post. Finally no 5 axis stabilization like this? Or does it have 5 axis stabilization? (another great concern because I hate shaky footage)
hey man I want to do wildlife films for example following an elephant herd and taking 4k videos while keeping a safe distance. Would this be the best camera for me or is there another? I just don't want to carry extra lens rather use that space for camping gear. I looked at the lumix100 but the distance range probably wont work and the gh4 needs extra lenses which will be quite expensive. Any recommendations or would this be the best camera?
whats the auto focus like I have the sony RX10 mark 2 and I love the auto focus on it, I have a G7 and the auto focus is grab for vlogging. I was going to sell my Sony RX10 and but I don't want the auto focus to suffer? I prefer Panasonic since owning the G7 just its lacking auto focus.
Can this be connected to a computer and used as a webcam? How fast is the zoom - is it manual and responsive? Can you recorded only through the viewfinder and not using the miniscreen? Thanks man, your videos rule.
Don't know about webcam as I've never needed that. Zoom is decent but its not manual its fly by wire like most new lenses, responsive not as good as a manual lens. Yes you can record only through viewfinder.
Hi Max, excellent video thankyou, I have a question I'm keen to hear your response, or anyone elses for that matter I'm a Kiwi living in OZ who has an 8 year old Sony Alpha A300 DSLR with Tamron 18mm-200mm Multi Zoom lens in excellent condition. I'm just wondering as I'm mega keen on this Panasonic FZ1000, if I was to upgrade my Sony Alpha A300 to a New Sony Alpha A58 SLT Translucent Mirror DSLR using my original Tamron Lens, would I get better results over buying the Panasonic FZ1000? I'm keen on an all in one as I' a lazy photographer who likes high quality image results. My 8 year old Sony A300 has 10.2MP APSC sensor, would it be a lot worse than going to a 20MP 1 inch non APSC sensor as in the Panasonic FZ1000? I'm worried if I buy a new Sony A58 and it is let down by my 8 year old Tamron 18-200 (28-300mm) lens, would I get better results with the new Panasonic FZ1000 with combined lens? I assume the quality and amount of lens elements are pretty good in the Panasonic and should be comparable to my Tamron for photo quality? Also do you think the DSLT is a gimmick compared to a traditional DSLR mirror camera? So much choice today it's even confusing for a tech geek such as my self, I've viwed dozens of videos and reviews, yours is among the best I've seen, thanks and keep up the high quality work, cheers Steven from Down Under
You are all over the place. One second it is an amazing camera, nothing else can touch it for the price. Then 2 minutes later, you would pass on it for a Canon t3i which is several years old ??? People looking at this or the Sony RX10 don't want interchangeable lenses, so even though other cameras like a T5i or Sony a6000 or even Panasonic ' own Gh4 are better they are not light years better without spending a lot more on A lenses. Not to mention carrying all that stuff to cover the range of the FZ1000. Would you buy this over the more expensive and shorter zoom range Sony RX10 ? I have heard the fz1000 is faster auto focus and has better image quality and video than the RX10. Trying to decide between the 2. Auto focus speed and accuracy, low light and video are my main uses and concerns. What you think ?
GGobblin Right before I said that I mentioned image quality. Yes the T3i is older, but the sensor is very similar to the current T5i and will definitely outperform the FZ1000/RX10 with mid range lenses in IQ. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video but I'm more looking at the video features as that's mainly what I used it for. As far as RX10 vs FZ100. I would choose FZ1000. Less $. Low light difference is negligible. Video is much better. As far as focus speed I can't say which one is faster as I've never used them side by side but the FZ1000 is a quick focusing camera so it shouldn't cause you any issues.
What about it's bitrate and frame (not Full Frame camera) ? Can you tell what is the cheapest lens for Lumix G7 to match Lx100 low light performance? Thank you very much for responding! :) I am planning to buy new camera. (Edit: It was FZ1000, LX100 or G7)
+Mart Muru You want to get a fast lens, Prime lenses are best options for low light. If you are only buying 1 lens than this one: amzn.to/1LVlaZ4 If you can buy two than this one amzn.to/1Mden8R and this one amzn.to/1MdenFQ . if you need to have a zoom buy one of these, amzn.to/1LVlnvh . Hope that helps!
Max, I've sold my Canon 60D and am ready to order one of these. Will you answer one question for me? Is it possible to adjust the shutter speed while in the 4K video mode? There will be times when I'll use the 4K video mode, not for the video but to catch stills which would be otherwise difficult. I might want to speed up the shutter for a sharper image.
I dont know if its just me haha but the non stabilized shots just make me laugh out loud, theres something so odd about beautiful footage being all shaky like that. The stabilization is amazing, thanks so much for your review, all of it has really helped me!
How would this compare to the AX100 or the CX900? I would buy from amazon (love it) but just moved to Australia! Sorry ! Would buy from the link if chance was there. Thanks for the videos!!!
I almost ordered an FZ1000 when it came out, but figured it was only a matter of time before Sony came back at Panasonic with a newer version of the FZ1000's closet rival, the RX10. Apparently an RX20 is about to come out with 4K, constant f2.8, and various other stuff. Would you have an opinion regarding the RX20? If the FZ1000 is still better overall I'll get that. Thanks!
The RX20 will be a minor update to the RX10 with 4k and X-AVC codec (which is nice) but the FZ1K has the same 100mbps codec as the GH4 which is also good. The RX20 won't have S-Log and will also have a 30min. time limiter. The other thing is the FZ1K is $899 and the RX20 will most likely be $1300 so that's one thing to think about. IF your shooting with other Sony cameras then RX20 would make sense to match the codec's and if your shooting Panasonic then of course the FZ1K to match codecs and color profile. If this is your main video camera then it's a tougher choice. If you need F2.8 at 200mm then RX20 as the FZ1k only holds the F2.8 to about 130mm. If money is an issue than the FZ1K is $400 less. Hope that helps!
Max Yuryev Thank you Max! If that's pretty much it for the RX20, I guess I'll likely get the FZ1000 after all. Here (in Toronto) it can be found for around $950 or slightly less. I may just wait a few weeks to see if it's even lower as Christmas approaches. Thanks again!
I bought one of these. I found the quality of the video was excellent in terms of quality detail, colour, and noise compared to my AF100 and my GH3; however, the deal breaker for me was the 30 min time limit on recording and this camera will not allow you to capture video with the Atomos Ninja Blade. I returned it. It is a great camera for the money but it doesn't work for me. Gerry in Calgary.
Hi Max great review! I own a GH4 and was looking for a continuous recording camera for my wedding shoots. You mentioned the battery life isn't as good as the GH4. You have an idea regarding how long the battery life is? :D Thanks! Subscribed to your channel by the way. :D
Jepster Togle Thanks for subbing! The FZ-1000 is about 1.5-2 hours of continuous shooting per battery which is typical for most cameras (NX1-5D3-7D,D810) ect. Good thing is third party batteries are fairly cheap amzn.to/1IqDsAa
Thanks Max Yuryev! Love your reviews. They're precise and straight to the point. So would you recommend this as a good continuous recording camera? I want to replace my other DSLRs that keep stopping after 10-15 minutes. Thanks again! :)
Jepster Togle Well the FZ1000 does have a 29.99 recording limit. The only DSLR style cameras that don't have a limit at all are the GH4 and GH3. amzn.to/1y5UgJ9
Wow I'm impressed by the quality of the stabilization. Not as good as the best Sony camcorders, but compared to the GH4 with the 14-140mm II f3.5-5.6 which is affected by an annoying high frequency vibration it's immensely better.
Hello, Can you please tell me which is the best camera for vlogging, traveling, personal moments and adventure between these (Panasonic G7, Panasonic ZF1000, Samsung NX500 and Sony α6000)... Thank you very much..
bcnbcn Performance was great. I may make a video but basically I wanted to use Final cut and didn't want a hackintosh, but at the same time wanted to try out the mac pro and got a chance to do so :) The build was fantastic and I loved it and miss it sometimes :)
Patrick Jin Its a great system (with the m295x) but I need something portable at this time or else I'd be trying to trade my mac pro for that right now!
Hey man. Can you help me? What should i choice? FZ 300 or FZ 1000? ((fz 300 is 170'000 Hungarian Forint and the FZ 1000 is 210'000 Hungarian Forint)). I have max 1'000 euro for buying a camera. The most important thing is the filming. I like these cameras cuz they can record 4k. But I'm interested ur choice. Should i buy another camera? Thx for ur answer!
Max Yuryev Thx for the fast answer! Another good stuff? fz 1000 is 210k huf and i have max 300k huf. And btw thats fixed objective, i cant change. It's will fine for me? Thx again!
FZ1000 on Amazon➡ geni.us/a3aiBA + bhpho.to/10zx5HY
Can this do unlimited 4k recording
i bought myself the FZ-200 for 400€ and never regret it. Great Pictures and great Videos.
wow, that sample video bw the gh4 and fz1000 blew me away! couldnt believe the video quality of the fz1000
impressive review. I enjoyed watching the 120fps slow motion clips, full zoom video examples and image stabilization. It really shows the amazing capabilities of this camera.
Certainly the best review of this camera on youtube. Thanks!
Great review! I bought the fz about a year ago and love it!, yes there are the negatives but for $1000, I'm blown away with its results.....again great review and I also thought the red head was filmed with the GH4.....
Have had my FZ1000 for a few weeks now....its a steep learning curve for a novice ike me but the results are worthwhile.
I'll start with FZ80. Then, FZ 1000. I just don't wanna change lens every time, i just wanna point and shoot. Great review! Thanks!!!
Great review and samples. Excellent comments at the end of video versus stills for using this camera. Thanks for this review!
Thanks you! :)
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!
Thank you very much for all your effort in showing us all the qualities of this "new" camera!!!
glad it was helpful!
Bless ya!
Robert Bowling Thanks Robert. I really like the area too but the older I get I want to move somewhere warm. Tired of cold and snow :)
Thanks for this comparison. Some hints:
- the GH4 (in comparison to the fz1000) is weather-sealed and dust-proof
- the GH4 has a touch screen, the fz doesn't
- the lighting, white balance or aperture seems to change during your shots. Or maybe it's caused by your NLE using color correction.
Thanks! some of these were in auto shooting mode that probably why

Super helpful and it was really fun to see all the Spokane clips! (I’m south hill Spokane!)
Good vid man. Hope you get your hands on the Canon XC10 and give it a go...curious your opinion on it.
Thanks for your video.
i just bought fz200 for 300
should I return it and get the fz1000 >
Great 4K video! But how come I cannot adjust the value between iso 6400 and 128,00? It jump from 6400 to 12800? How to extend it to 25600 iso? I like to set at 20,000 iso for night shot.
How you can film 60fps? What settings you use? I have tried but I havent managed to film 60fps with my camera..
I don't want to drift but what mic did you use for this cast?.
What's the best software to edit 4k..many thanks
amzn.to/1zB2kvz that's the mic I use, and I suggest final cut X.
Would you recommend the FZ1000 or the G85 primarily being used to do reviews for RUclips (sort of blog style), but also for photos and general use.
Definitely geni.us/7cRL
Dear Max,
Is it possible to mirror through HDMI output (camera display not turned off while outputting on monitor through HDMI cable)?
Thank you in advance.
I'm looking into buying this camera for slow mo cinematics. Looks like a fairly good choice
You may also watch Graham Houghton channel for in depth review on this camera.
Did you like battery life of fz1000? How many spare batteries do I need for all day random video shooting?
Lots of good information here. Just bought a used one, April 2024
I have that camera and a lumix G7 how do they compare?
Is the crop factor wide enough to hand hold vlog with it? Or is it gonna be to close ?
So do you think switching from a 650d to the Fz1000 is worth it? Im mainly using my 650d for filming.
120fps in 4k ? How did you do that magician? Макс прекращай фантазировать )
Can't decide between the FZ1000, FZ300 or the Sony HX400V ?
Which do you think is the all around better camera?
Yeah its nice i am thinking of getting one as B-cam mostly because image stabilisation. But now there is the FZ300 as well... With fixed 2.8 aperture, weather sealing and touch screen for a lower price. Did you try that out also? I know smaller sensor but does it really matter on this type of camera....
The fz300 is terrible. The picture quality is worse than a mid-high end smartphone in 2016-17. And its 1080p video is utter crap. Only usable at 4k. FZ1000 is VASTLY better and totally worth any price difference.
Excellent review, I’m happy I bought this camera now.
hi! I'm currently considering buying this camera for making videos, is it good?
Excellent Video! Can you say anything about 4K Videos of the FZ 1000 in a 4K TV?
Even the 120fps shots are much sharper and more noiseless than my Pen E-PL5 at 30 fps. This camera is amazing. Does it has an input for remote? Is it able to switch between 30, 25 and 24 fps. The EU version of this camera will get 25p mode.
Hi. Enjoy your videos. This But sorry I didn't understand very well. How log this camera can record video. It's possible at leat to record 30 mn in high quality? Thanks
+Cristina Teixeira Yes you can do 30min of high quality, then the recording will auto stop and you just hit record again.
Thanks. wish you sucess. The this is I have a Cannon 1200 D and in high format and qality only record 12mn. To record 30 I have to decrease the size of the video. So I was wondering if the Panasonic do better that this. Thanks
Nice really nice but im thinking of switching my fz1000 for a samsung nx500 for 4k music video recording what you think?
Max, you are one of my favorite human beings. Thanks for this video!
GFFmatt =) Thanks!
Thanks for the videos on this camera, I really appreciate the information. I'm just getting into photography and was going to use this to focus on stills mainly on landscape for when I go to Hawaii and taking pictures in NYC. Now I guess I should go the DSLR route so it's back to the drawing board.
Glad I could help!
Max Yuryev On the telephoto end on a DSLR, the combined weight would be quite heavy.
I am interested in this camera for the tele end for 4K. I would probably pair this up with my A7s, and use the A7s for low ISO and wide shots.
Patrick Jin I think this cam would be perfect for your use! Its incredible to shoot 4k at 592mm with IS :)
Patrick Jin and for only $899
No fair! It's so hot here in SoCal. I like the weather there haha
nope i'm 16 haha
Max Yuryev Thanks for your input Max! I've decided to hold fire until the G7 is released and then make a decision at the end of the month.
sorry for my english lol you record with the fz1000 which mode you use to have this quality for exemple 2 guy in the water
what you suggest me
hi loved the video and subscribed, i have a question, did you try taking any stills of your 4k video and was the quality similar to if you take the photo with the camera?
Raideress Thanks! Its very close yes but you can't crop it much as its 8MP compared to 20 from taking a still.
Thanks,
--jim
Hi Jim! Greetings :) Yes I think the FZ1000K will be perfect for you. It should be small and quite a bit lighter than what your using now, and with a great zoom range as well as the 4k video and really good image stabilization. Go for it, and enjoy your trip to Glacier!
Max Yuryev Thanks, Max. I'll pick one up and we'll see how it works out.
Thanks!
***** Nope, this thing is built for vidoe. I've shot 4 hours straight (wedding) no issues. No correcting everything right out of camera :)
With 4K do cameras render down as 1080 so I can put it in Vegas without it taking ages to render down to 1080 for RUclips?
+Cory Pelizzari (SolonoidStudio) It will take a bit more to render 1080P from 4k than 1080 from 1080 but still faster than rendering to 4k.
Congrats on the camera. It will do great for your needs. Enjoy it!
Hi Max, i want to purchase a flash gun for my fz 1000 kindly guide me in this... Furthermore, which third party equipment for fz 1000 is compatible with?
What about Auto Focus? Does it hunts like other Lumix cameras, like the GH5? Does it works fine in video? I heard Custom Multi works fine...
thanks for this... really helpful... just bought the camera...
So here is what I want,
Action clips slo mo, indoor vlogs with good light setup, outdoor vlogs handheld and in all situations, a bit of product review where I need detailed video shots, macro and blurring the background...
Can I do all of this from one camera?
Finally, if the lens gets damaged, what do I do? Can it be replaced at the service center at least with another same lens?
Any other camera which can do all this? And maybe do better?
I think the RX100mk4 would be better for you. Flip up screen for vlogging, 120FPS is better than this, also has higher frame rates. The zoom range is limited though, so if you need to zoom in a ton that could be a problem, but overall the RX100mk4 is a much better vlogging camera. amzn.to/2c8L9PB .
I just watched 4 reviews of RX100 MK4,
Here are the things I don't like..
No external mic support
5 mins of 4K only?
It does get 1080 240 frames per seconds and you are right the quality is better, but can it do that for a long period of time? (This is my main doubt cause my shots are much longer- say 3 mins or so) I cut in post.
Finally no 5 axis stabilization like this? Or does it have 5 axis stabilization? (another great concern because I hate shaky footage)
which camera are you using for your youtube videos?
hey man I want to do wildlife films for example following an elephant herd and taking 4k videos while keeping a safe distance. Would this be the best camera for me or is there another? I just don't want to carry extra lens rather use that space for camping gear. I looked at the lumix100 but the distance range probably wont work and the gh4 needs extra lenses which will be quite expensive. Any recommendations or would this be the best camera?
For that job I think this would be the perfect camera!
+Max Yuryev Thanks a lot for the informative videos that hit all the main points! Much appreciated
This review is fantastic! Subscribed.
Thanks!
I heard that with the latest firmware, you finally get 4096 x 2160 in the FZ1000. Is this true?
whats the auto focus like I have the sony RX10 mark 2 and I love the auto focus on it, I have a G7 and the auto focus is grab for vlogging. I was going to sell my Sony RX10 and but I don't want the auto focus to suffer? I prefer Panasonic since owning the G7 just its lacking auto focus.
Hey Max, I thought the FZ1000 only shoots at 24fps max at 4k?
does it overheat? thanks for the review it really helps
Nice review, im planing on buy this one, thanks !!
Hi Max, excellent video thankyou, I have a question I'm keen to hear your response, or anyone elses for that matter
I'm a Kiwi living in OZ who has an 8 year old Sony Alpha A300 DSLR with Tamron 18mm-200mm Multi Zoom lens in excellent condition.
As far as focus speed I can't say which one is faster as I've never used them side by side but the FZ1000 is a quick focusing camera so it shouldn't cause you any issues.
can u make tutorial on slowmotion setting
For low light filming what do you recommend : LX100, FZ100 or G7? Thank you!
+Mart Muru G7 for sure, its even better than GH4 in lowlight.
+Max Yuryev Thank you very much for info! I really appreciate that!
Yes you can have full manual control or semi manual just like cannon.
Has the iZoom function helped with the stuttering manual zoom? Have you investigated that?
Daemon Baizan No I haven't tried for that specifically but I don't think so.
Do you have beginner videos of how to use this camera please?
I dont know if its just me haha but the non stabilized shots just make me laugh out loud, theres something so odd about beautiful footage being all shaky like that. The stabilization is amazing, thanks so much for your review, all of it has really helped me!
How would this compare to the AX100 or the CX900? I would buy from amazon (love it) but just moved to Australia! Sorry ! Would buy from the link if chance was there. Thanks for the videos!!!
I believe this is the same sensor as those cameras, just in a dslr format and a lot less $$$ (less than half of the a 100)
Max Yuryev Thanks for the answer!
I think ill go with the FZ1000
Thanks!
Doh , thought there was an update that changed the 4k video to 120fps , nice review though.
JoeSzilagy Maybe black friday? =)
FZ1000 can ae-lock in video mode please? Can't find this info.
Excellent review.
Thanks!
as of 2016 I bought this for 659.00 new and with the latest firmware they have sorted out a few things.
+Gerald Prost Sounds like you need a GH4 :)
A GH4 would be good, but I think I'll get the new DVX 200. Gerry
+Gerald Prost If you are in the US the limit is now 65 mins in 4k
I,ve just bought this camera but havent discovered yet, how could you set the 120 fps? By the way thanks for the vid it helped me a lot
Glad to help! you put it into variable frame rate. It's one of the options "high speed" in your settings below the quality selection
Max Yuryev thank you, i will try the settings
Hello !!! Can i record a video using the ring as focus ?
Max Yuryev wait, so it doesn't shoot in 1080p 60p recording or are you refering to the minutes?
Jepster Togle I'm referring yo min. It will stop recording at 29min59sec and you need to hit rec again.
Wow I'm impressed by the quality of the stabilization.
Not as good as the best Sony camcorders, but compared to the GH4 with the 14-140mm II f3.5-5.6 which is affected by an annoying high frequency vibration it's immensely better.
supercurioTube I was also really impressed!
Hello,
Can you please tell me which is the best camera for vlogging, traveling, personal moments and adventure between these (Panasonic G7, Panasonic ZF1000, Samsung NX500 and Sony α6000)...
Thank you very much..
+finix1911fc I'd go amzn.to/1V9ADsH . Out of those, G7 as you have a flip out screen and can use a wide lens.
+Max Yuryev thanks
After making your mac pro PC you ended up with a mac pro. Could you make a video explaining why? Was the performance bad on the pc?
bcnbcn Performance was great. I may make a video but basically I wanted to use Final cut and didn't want a hackintosh, but at the same time wanted to try out the mac pro and got a chance to do so :) The build was fantastic and I loved it and miss it sometimes :)
bcnbcn Maybe I will do another build later with 8 core i7 and 980 :)
Max Yuryev Should have waited for the iMac 5K
Patrick Jin Its a great system (with the m295x) but I need something portable at this time or else I'd be trying to trade my mac pro for that right now!
cool impartial reviews! more power to you!
Rich Somes Thanks!
you are welcome max. keep up your good work!
+Mark Control FZ1000 as the sensor is much larger. better image quality, and lowlight, plus shallower DOF. :)
Max Yuryev Thx for the fast answer! Another good stuff? fz 1000 is 210k huf and i have max 300k huf. And btw thats fixed objective, i cant change. It's will fine for me? Thx again!
