The phrase “it’s just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice. There’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.
People don't always play games for the sake of winning and perfecting something that's simply a hobby. And this comes from me, who's been playing video games since I could remember. It's not a weak mindset when for many, it simply does not matter. I don't play games to win necessarily. It's different if I'm playing competitive, but even then, it is, and will always be a video game -- not worth considering it more than that.
This is the first example of a portfolio I’ve seen with clothed figures and it’s super comforting- I don’t have access to any figure drawing classes in my town, and it’s made me very nervous that when I eventually apply, I won’t have a chance. But this is very nice :)
Yeah! There are plenty of nude models available online, but doing clothed poses of people irl (especially when theyre fun costumes like these lol) can be just as good :D
@@Jeansagain do they not care if the figure drawing reference is from an image then? I know there’s a lot of stigma in art education that you can’t get the same learning experience from pictures (a lot of my art teachers don’t let you draw from pictures at my school so I wasn’t sure ;;)
@@beetlbrite they want them done from life for the portfolio itself, and drawing from life IS always better, but photos/videos are just the next best thing for practice. tbh, its harder to do them from photos/videos cause the camera lens warps stuff, but if you dont have access to nude models like you mentioned its an option for practice!
@@Jeansagain ah, thank you so much for the information! I’m trying to get in from another country and it’s really stressful thinking about how much higher the international percentage is ;;
Aw man congrats this is so epic! I’ve been dreaming of going into the Sheridan animation program for so long, and your portfolio is very inspiring and nice to look at ;0
I Know I'm late to the party but congrats!!! I just noticed that pretty much every work requires perspective and construction skills, character rotation scares me a lot
tysm!! being able to draw something that looks 3d and can move around accurately in space is a lot of what animation is about, honestly! best advice I can give is just face it head on and make a bunch of rotations well before you're making the final portfolio. Even if its only once, having the room to experiment any portfolio requirements before your final version helps :) gl!
Congrats man! I hope to apply for Sheridan, even though I'm in 9th grade. I'm from the U.S. so I'm going to have to try my hardest to earn a high score. Again, congratulations.
i have been watching so many of these videos, i’m obsessed. i think you did really well! your art stands out a lot to me so i had to leave a comment. i hope you’re doing well!
I’m in animation portfolio workshop right now and my teacher went over your portfolio with our class! I recognized the outdoor layout and the hands looked familiar, I love how you organized your layout it’s super interesting and well thought out!
Hi, could I ask you questions about APW, because I also want to attend but couldnt find much reviews online and want to talk with someone who has done it. Thank you
Hi, first of all your portfolio is really good. I wanted to ask if you know anyone who did the APW animation basics course instead of the animation portfolio course? Because i couldnt find much reviews online for that one. And which one would you reccommend to a beginner?

Amazing work, congrats! Also thanks for sharing your portfolio. On a side note, have your heard of the VFX program at Sheridan or Seneca, I know its something basically completely different from your program, but have you heard good things about it?
Congratulations! Sheridan is my dream school. I’m thinking about doing the animation portfolio workshop in Toronto but I’m unsure how long the workshop goes on for or even when I should start going 😔

Ty! APW taught me formal life drawing skills & for a few months leading up to the portfolio submission I went to open life drawing sessions 2-3 times a week. They don't have any instruction, but it was practice which is the most important thing for life drawing.
i think your portfolio for sheridan was the first i looked at when i checked out the school and it’s still one of my favorites 😭😭 i’m a junior right now and I want to go to Sheridan a lot (i’m worried abt the portfolio but it is what it is),,,, i have a quick question, but about how much are you spending yearly for school? because i’ve looked at the site and it seems to be 30 something thousand CAD (for international) but that doesn’t include residence? I’m a bit confused;; it’s not your job to answer my questions tho haha but good luck with your degree!!
thank you sm!! I'm a domestic student, so it's about 9k a year (without living expenses) for me. The 30k for internationals without residence is unfortunately true,, residence would be an extra expense on top of that. It's ridiculous, but i don't know enough to tell you exactly why the price difference is so high, sry :(
@@Jeansagain Thank you! Tuition is one of the main factors for me when choosing colleges, so this really is helpful. I live in the US and honestly every other school that i’m considering costs way more anyways 😭😭 ty again, I hope you have a good day! c:
Korunai Yh but u already r industry level with the portfolio u submitted. I just thought there would be more ... room for growth idk what I’m saying really 🙃 I’m maybe jus jealous ur that good and I have two years left to prepare 😰
Joshua Alleyne 2 years is A LOT of time to get better-this video is already a good example of that. Animation and art schools are to help you learn more about how the industry works and to use the school’s connections and resources and stuff. You need to already be good, for example if you get accepted into a science school they expect you to already know the basics
Art colleges can pick whoever they want, if they can pick someone they don't have to teach who is going to make their school look good they are going to choose that over teaching someone how to actually draw and animate. Schools and colleges aren't there to benefit you. They are there to create a golden handcuffs situation where studios can hire people who are already highly talented and disciplined and they have 100k in debt so they'll go work at a big studio and won't be able to object to anything due to their massive debt.
I did, you should be using references for everything in this portfolio! the hands were done by posing my own hand, the models were from various life drawing sessions in my city.
:000 I know this video is pretty old, but on the off chance you're still checking it,, what exact course did you take from apw?? Gotta know for myself :')

Thank you! I personally got in a year out of highschool (went to uni for one year & then transferred to Sheridan) but everyone who enters the program is different. The number of people who enter straight out of highschool isnt huge, but its not impossible! You're definitely not too late. Its just a matter of refining your skills, which is sometimes difficult when youre juggling highschool classes.
Hi... I'm gonna go for college next year..... I wanna do animations.. but I picked this interest pretty recently..... Let me tell u everything about my situation cause i really REALLY need help...i don't think I'm that good in drawing yet... I'm studying in cbse... Which means i really have to focus in my 12th grade... And also given the present situation I can't go for physical classes for drawing or anything..... My school ends around the end of February and start of March... And the fall semester or most colleges start October.... So that gives me something around 5 to 6 months.... If i go for classes during that time and learn would i be able to come out with a good portfolio in time for submitting my application ? And what classes should I take exactly? Is there any suggestions or solutions anyone can give cause i don't know what to do and I'm freaking out..... Please help me... Give me whatever advice and tips u have..... Should I just take a gap year or something
