I'm with you on loving the moment when your make becomes recognisable as clothing that you might actually wear! Really inspired by your swimsuit making and also your modelling tips :) Looking really great - you and the swimsuits!
You are a great ' pin up'. Looks like lots of fun. The pattern suits you as does the fabric. The crashing waves are a happy accident 😁, no picking required.
I’m an American living in The Netherlands and my serger and sewing machine both have multiple languages and a weird layout. Drives me crazy. I’ve mostly opted for RUclips videos. Your suits are fabulous! I like the low wasted position of the wave skirt. Nice positioning of fabric on the folk print. Congratulations!🎊
Your swimsuits are really lovely Theresa and your photos are good fun. I know what you mean I have just completed my first pair of Jean's and I cant believe how proud I am of them. They are not perfect but I dont care I will wear them proudly so I get that your are impressed with your swimsuits and so you should be, well done you.🏄♀️
Yes, I totally agree with you, Annette! You made jeans-that's freaking awesome! I have yet to join that club. We definitely need to celebrate those achievements!
Those swimsuits are 🔥🔥🔥 the wave fabric especially is amazing. And I love how the skirt addition looks, even if it's not quite what you had in mind at first. Also, I spy a frugal frock which is making me very nostalgic because that's how I first discovered you. Aww
That's sweet to hear, thank you! You're right with the frugal frock. It was really fun to wear this summer! And yes, sometimes things have a way of coming together all on their own. I'm really happy with the outcome, so it's all good!
The swimsuits are great! I 👍 I like to do things like this that are quick and dont require much fabric etc.. underwear are fun cuz they are quick from prep to finish.
Thank you! I'm planning to try underwear soon. Just hoping not to battle too much with the elastic. I am expecting them to be really satisfying to make!
Love this video. I had a little laugh at your comment about when things just come together. I get this all the time when I'm sewing because I'm still new at it. I get so surprised when things work, lol.
I’ve been working my way through your content! Happy to report I’ve almost watched all your videos !! (Which worries me because I have a lot of sewing to get to for Christmas gifts and you have kept me company! ) as soon as you mentioned that swim suit!! I knew !! I also made a Jalie suit,(3134 it’s the one that looks like a Speedo style ) the instructions were overwhelming!! In the end it came together and I love it !! I was certain I would have to throw it away while I was making it !! Yours as so cute !! I have since also made several other Jalie patterns (tops etc) and have grown accustomed to the style of pattern! You are not alone in your first impression of those patterns !
Oh wow, what a huge compliment! Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that you like my videos enough to work through them all. I should hopefully still be able to keep you company while you sew your Christmas gifts because I've got two videos coming out this week before December, and then I'm posting a video a day until Christmas. What are you making as gifts this year? I'm so happy with the outcome of the bathing suit that I'm willing to overlook the confusing instructions. I'd happily make another of their patterns because the drafting is so great. It reassures me to hear that you've been through it and that it got easier. These bathing suits were some of my favorite makes this year!
@@LostMyThread no sooner than I posted this that I realized that I was all caught up with your videos!! Thank goodness your making more!!I As gifts I am working on making some cardigans for my mom and my MIL and aunts! Also we’re going on a long overdue vacation during Christmas to Hawaii. So Im making presents, summer clothes and then my daughter reminded me I’ve yet to make her a winter wardrobe (she’s 11 and I know soon she won’t want mom made clothes so I am happy to provide them) but Im literally making swim suits and sweatshirts in the same days. Feeling a little schizophrenic. The one question I have pondered after watching your videos, you needed up in England, you mentioned your brother is in Japan (?) How is it that your family ended up so spread out? How many siblings do you have and do any still live in the US? Thanks for sharing your sewing journey !!
@@christaboudreaux6687 that must be so crazy to sew summer and winter clothes at the same time!! I'm making a cardigan for a Christmas gift right now, too! You sound like you've got a whole lot of sewing on your plate. Good luck getting it all done without too much stress. And have a fantastic time in Hawaii! In response to your question: I've got two older siblings. My brother moved to Japan on 2000 to teach English for a few years and decided to stay. I moved to England in 2003 after I met my husband. My sister lives in Colorado, which is still in the US, but pretty far from Chicago, where we're from. We joke with my parents that they did too good of a job, raising three independent children. Sometimes life takes you somewhere you never expected!
the style of suit you chose looks really great on you! the instructions sound like a PITA to follow. i would've been annoyed by that too. i love that jumpsuit you made. the fabric is stunning.
I am just so impressed! Your bathing suits look so high end and lovely on you. And your photo shoot was so much fun! Your confidence and pride really came through. Well done, and as always, I can’t wait to see what you make next! 👏👏👏
Your swimsuits are so nice! I love the neckline. I agree with your issues in the Jalie instructions. I’ve made one pattern from them and ended up following the directions from a different pattern for one part because I struggled with their description of the construction. I enjoyed following along on your trip to Chicago on IG. It looks like you had a lot of fun. Your swimsuit pics came out great!!!
Thanks, Michelle! I don't think I'm alone with Jalie instructions because I've seen that in reviews of this swimsuit. Such a shame though because the pattern drafting is great! I'll give them another try one of these days.
I love your swimsuits and think the fabric you chose is so stunning. Interesting to hear about the Jalie pattern instructions too as I was considering making their racerback suit. I love your jumpsuit too. I totally bought one after seeing yours and it is next up on my to-sew list! ❤
That's so nice to hear, thank you Amelia! You will look fab in that jumpsuit. It's crazy comfortable, too. I have to say on behalf of Jalie Patterns, the instructions left a little bit to be desired, but the pattern drafting is fantastic. I won't hold it against them too much. 😉
I absolutely KNOW the feeling of things turning into what they are as you’re making them. It’s such a thrill if things just work. Love seeing your makes, it looks like you had a blast. I really loved watching your vlog from Chicago too. I wonder if a separate skirt would work in a swimsuit? Would it mive around or not stay in place? Hope you’re planning anothe r”battle of the…” series, I bet they’re tons of work, but so much fun to watch.
That's so sweet, thank you! I've been thinking over my next battle and should be sharing some details soon. It's always so nice to hear that people are enjoying my videos!
Your tips for taking swimsuit pics are spot on! I love how your suits (and the photos) turned out. It's interesting to hear your thoughts about the Jalie instructions since you've never sewn with Jalie before and you have also never made swimsuits before. I wonder if the newness of both presented an overload of challenges. Either way, you persevered and the suits look great! So, Kudos!
Thank you so much, Lindsay! In all honesty, my biggest problem came down to a confusing diagram/explanation of securing the twist front. I imagine that I would have been in the same position even if I'd sewn other swimsuits before. I am so happy that I pushed through though, because I absolutely love the outcome!!
I have just recently seen one of you videos, Chicago trip being my first. I have been wanting to make a bathing suit. Just have to sit down and do it. Need to order some elastic first I guess. I like that Jamie suit you made. I think I will try that with a skirt. Thanks.
That's so nice to hear, thank you! I'd love to know if you make the bathing suit and how it works out for you. I really enjoyed sewing these up. I hope you do, too!
I do agree with you with Jalie patterns. Their instructions in english is slways missing some steps eventough I speak french I still struggle with the instructions in both languages. It's sad because they have cute pattern, i wont be buying anymore from them it's too frustrating. Btw your pieces are very lovely.
That's really interesting to hear. I wouldn't have known how the French instructions would be. It really is a shame that it has put you off their patterns! I'm willing to try them again, but they definitely have one big strike against them. I love the bathing suits though, so it was worth the struggle for this one!
The swimming suits were a total success! They look great on you! Great fabric choices and the front overlaps look so cute! I totally get you on tha Jalie instructions 😒. They were kind f useless for me! I sewed Jalie 0971, it is a swimming suit for swimming laps, it has a racer back and it includes a swimming cap. Swimming suits can be so expensive, and when used for swimming I feel that they wear out so quickly as they are so exposed to chlorine. Sorry… back to my point. It was my first swimming suit project, so I was kind of nervous, the instructions were not as clear as would have liked for my first project, but above all the pattern pieces were a nightmare to identify! The pattern pieces are marked as “H” in the instructions and I just couldn’t find the “H” piece, I could figure out it was H just out of logic. The pattern comes with an elastic guide, but as I was so disappointed with the instructions I just didn’t trust the elastic guide (I didn’t want to cut my elastic and have tiny pieces left or not have enough), I just sewed the elastic and cut and the end. After all of these up and downs it turned out great! In fact I have some more swimming suits on the go. Nice pattern, but they definitely have to work on the instructions. Loved your video! Thanks for sharing! I also have family in Chicago, I went to visit in August a few years back, my first time there on that time of the year, the heat was terrible, I wasn’t prepared at all! And I am used to heat (I live in Mexico City). But I found the heat so humid! Loved your city none the less! Again, thanks for sharing and take care!
It's such a shame about the Jalie instructions because I really love the pattern drafting. Some people seem to be die hard fans. I think we all must have things we like/don't like about our patterns, and we find what we like! You're definitely right that the humidity in Chicago-it's pretty intense. Chicago weather doesn't do much by half. It's usually unbearably hot or unbearably cold, but I love it nevertheless! London weather is pretty boring to me, but I know that's because of what I'm used to! 😆 Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts. Good luck on your next swimsuits!!
Both of your swimsuits look lovely, Theresa! Pity you’ve had this experience with Jalie, because I have sewn quite a few of their patterns and they are one of my favourite pattern companies out there. I guess it is a personal preference when it comes to instructions - I prefer short instructions with drawings rather than longer explantations for each step with a photo. But I can understand it can get confusing sometimes and adding the French on the side it doesn’t help. Either way you made yourself lovely garments. Xx
Thank you, Polly! I definitely think we have our own preferences when it comes to instructions. I don't think there's a right and wrong way because different types of instructions will suit different sewists. The swimsuits are so good though, I would definitely be willing to give them another try!
Karina from, Lifting Pins and Needles, is also a midwife that has a sewing RUclips channel. What are the odds! Do you know about her? She’s a good one to watch.

Love the way you added the skirt to the suit, it looks great! I thought it was the original pattern until you told us 🤗
I thought the same thing!
Thanks, ladies! I definitely think it works well with the suit-so glad that I added it on!
Both bathing suits are awesome but the second one is so beautiful. The fabric is amazing, love the pictures.
Thank you so much! The second one is my favorite (shh, don't tell the first), but I really do love them both!
You are a great ' pin up'. Looks like lots of fun. The pattern suits you as does the fabric. The crashing waves are a happy accident 😁, no picking required.

Yes, agreed! I am always willing to forget about the things that bugged me when I get such a great end result!
