My mom loved Paul Simon. She passed away unexpectedly 3 weeks ago. I finally got the courage to listen to some of his songs and oh boy the tears are flowing. Remembering our long road trips with Paul Simon on repeat. Love you mom ❤
My sincere condolences. Hold tight to those nice road trip memories, and Momma will be close by:)
My Mom’s favorite song was The 59th St Bridge Song. Right there with ya. Heavy Sigh…🍎💋❤️🎼
Love your story
Sorry for your loss. 🙏🏿
My condolences to you her family and friends.
I sure do miss the 70s
Greatest music era ever 1970s
I chose this for the Mother/Groom dance at my son's upcoming wedding May 6, 2023. 😍 I hope we do it justice.🤞🏼😁
How’d it go??
Wow...talk about a good choice!
Just sent it to my Mom for approval for our dance!
@@blainem2258 It was a blast, thanks for asking!
HMMMMM🎵🎵
The Gospel Group the Dixie Hummingbirds makes this song ROCK.
One of my favorites by the GREAT PAUL SIMON.
🗣♊️👤Rising
The day my son dedicated me this song, I cried for so long. I am proud of raising such a good man.
This song tells how I love my own son. I consider it my theme song lol.
Good Job Mama ♥♥♥!
Paul simon tapped into the American experience like no one else imo
This is when music was music 🎶
Greatest Mom Ever... Priceless!
Zathura me trajo aquí 😎🤘
Paul always had top-notch backing musicians. Listen to how the bass and kick drum work together!
Roger Hawkins on drums, David Hood on bass
My adult daughter just sent me a video of her listening to this on the radio with tears in her eyes. She said, “I thought you made this song up.” I sang it to my kids & puppies all the time (except I said “she loves you.”)🤗💗
That story brings tears to my eyes
thats awesome lol
That is so darling ❤ 😊 What a cute story!
Your mama DOES love you!
Beautiful that you shared that. #Memories ❤️🙏
I always sang this to my babies ❤
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!
This came out in 1973, nine years before I was born. But, isn't every Paul Simon song a "feel good song?" There's absolutely nothing wrong with that either.
The Dixie Hummingbirds. Look 'em up. Paul on guitars, too.
Paul put his faith in the Muscle Shoals guys to the point where he could just turn them loose!
Love this song. Have to admit though, I've never heard the devil call my name, but I was in the chapel choirs at my boarding schools for 10 years.
Zathura ZATHURA Zorgons rock!!!
The only song that has ever made me want to dance with my momma... serious. Thank you, Paul Simon.
Listening to all the great Paul Simon songs on youtube. It is taking a while.
✌️💀..ZATHURA !!!
my childhood✌
It is 2021 and my mama is no longer with me, but she loved me like a rock. I miss mama, thank you God for blessing me with my mama. I miss her so much.
Played this at my moms funeral. I can smile & cry at the same time when i hear it. Its a beautiful song.
Reminds me of High School when I played this song ad nauseum on 8-track on my old Soundesign stereo. I was in Heaven! Was a great song 50+ years ago, and is still a great song today! Those perfect soulful background vocals make this song so great. Paul Simon is one of the top songwriters of all time.
To be able to pass from the sound of silence to this sound you must be Paul Simon.
Or in my case have bad gas in the morning.
Paul Simon, Thank you. Blessings.
Paul's mama didn't raise no dummy. He took off for Sheffield Alabama to get that special grease that Aretha Franklin said yu could only get in Muscle Shoals!
70s we're fun....music crossing all racial barriers...
I started listening to Simon & Garfunkel when I was a kid. 🥰 Paul Simon is one of the best, most stellar musicians of all time.

This was one of my dad's favorites.
Stepmom played this on her 8 track, 71 Torino spot. Too young to see over the seat, but going to the beach was magic then.
I dedicate this song to my son Paul. 💖💖💖 Yes, he was named after Paul Simon!
For those of us who love to sing and do not know the words.

Anytime there was a Simon and Garfunkel song or just Paul Simon,on the radio,it was one of the best songs playing.
Simon and GarFarkel, Laugh-in with Goidie Hawn, circa 1969=70=Rowan and Martin
Let's hear it for the Dixie Hummingbirds on this...especially the guy singing the bottom part. Wow!
The Guy singing the bottom part was no other than Dixie hummingbirds bass singer William Bobo.
Makes me cry too.makes me a lil confused.love the song
Still enjoying this time in 2022! Shout out to The Dixie Hummingbirds for that awesome🎵 background🎶 harmony!🎵
@deniseandrews..The "Dixie Hummingbirds"..??! Someone said 'twas, The Mills Bros"..?!
@Maldoror200 The Mills Brothers may have done a version of this song, but the Dixie Hummingbirds did background vocals for Paul. Google it!
Zathura outro xD
Man Oh Man''. The smooth backup vocals of the "Mills Brothers is on the chain not off the chain. Paul knows how to put talent together.
@wadeenglish8658..💀..✌️😉.., That's the "Mills Bros"..??.you .sure..??
The Dixie Hummingbirds backed Paul up on this track, not the Mills Brothers.
@darrinbaker00 ..Greatly appreciate thee clarification..!! 😄👌
I just told my BFF I love you love you love you love you and of course I had to play it still nice in 2024
No one is above the law.

I am sorry for your loss, and all of those in the comments who have experienced great loss as well. Blessings and love
Zathura managed to bring this to new generations like mine 30 years later. Amazing song. Great work, Paul Simon :)
Those backing vocals, though.
Sheesh.
Flawless.
They were the famous Dixie hummingbirds backing Paul Simon. They made their own version with the permission of Paul Simon and won a Grammy
When this song played at the end of "Zathura", it really captures the mood of the movie. Zathura was the devil, the boys were Danny and Walter, and the man was the Astronaut. Calling their names. And the mama part sung in the song was Walter and Daddy's parents.
I use to sing this song to my son who was 5 or 6 and he's never forgot it. Hes now 45
Zathura had the best ending.
Shout out to the background singers a southern black gospel group called The Dixie Hummingbirds and Mr Simon I love this song
Happy Mother's Day 2022, everyone!
Many people think the third verse was about Watergate. But Paul wrote this in 1971, a full year before Watergate happened. However at that time, many Democrats in Congress contended that President Nixon wasn't being forthcoming about his Vietnam policies, accusing Nixon of hiding behind the "Presidential seal and podium".
Zathura A Space Adventure brought me here in 2006. I miss 6th grade year so much, please take me back!!
When music/songs had a beat, melody and actually told some kind of story you could actually understand. Oh I do lament and wonder have we really evolved? Whilst not perfect the 1970s had more going for it than society today.
One of my all time favorite albums from the 70's. Awesome songwriter and performer.
This album is only challenged (70's) by only by bridge over troubled waters and let it be
@@grant_7261 Let It Be? That is one of the weakest Beatles albums and has so many average tracks that it's not even Beatlesesque (new spelling!). A couple of starters: Sticky Fingers and Exile by the Stones, debut album by Bad Co, Late for the Sky, Pretender by Jackson Browne, Souvenirs by Dan Fogelberg, the list is endless.
@@jimrauh3584Let it Be, LAWW, Get Back, DLMD, Two of Us are not weak! Sheesh! 🤦🏻♀️
@@polytheneprentiss1534 You apparently didn't read what I wrote. It is one of the weakest Beatles albums, put together at a point when the band was breaking up and Paul was desperately trying to keep it together. Yes there are strong songs but the entirety of it is a weak effort.
Dis some real fucking music neva 2 b seen again
I’m sure someone’s mama loved him like a rock & so do I !😉😊😍😘🤗
First time I heard this song was October 9, 1973...It was the day I got my drivers license (I was 16 and my birthday)...after dropped my mom at home while going to school this was the first song I heard on the radio and finally driving all by myself. I had the world by the A** well at least that's what I thought.
Love the background vocals by The Dixie Hummingbirds. 🎼🎼🎼😎
Im must say i love the early 70s
My Mom died on this day April 6, 2012. I always think of her when I hear this.
Reminds me of the summer of '73. Getting up at 5:30 am to deliver the Newark star ledger and hearing this on 77 WABC while getting ready
Musicradio77 WABC.. a moment of silence. For so may years.. the sound of the Tri-State area!
That’s a cool part of music history. Thanks for sharing
I have memories of hearing this on WABC in New York City as a preteen. Great music, good times.
77 WABC is better than ever... Especially on the weekends
Cousin Brucie pumping out the same songs from the 60's & 70's as if we actually were back in that era.......Hey , I was a Little kid listening to WABC & all of those songs & by me tuning in on the weekends to hear this music , it brings me back to my early youth & there ain't nothin' wrong with that..........
I do love rocks! #peachesthealien 💚👽💚
This is a most wonderful song that will make you look back on some of the greatest times in life.
When I think of the greatist song writers of all time, Paul Simon would place in the Top 5. This masterpiece is proof the man was a genius.
Thank you Paul for all your talent you gave to the world.
Thank you for the great upload.
Paul Simon's music is the definition of timeless! My music producer friend introduced me to the Paul Simon when we were 16 and I've been hooked ever since, Such good memories hanging out in his basement blasting Paul Simon. I wanna throw my friend some love as we've been through a lot together try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it's his latest single and it gives me Paul Simon vibes, I'm honestly so impressed with it, its one of those songs that makes you happy when you listen to it
That's that groove. Mmhmm.
One of his best
But she never did. So I Love mine like a Boulder!

Mmhmm. That's that, that's that groove.
I love my kids like a rock!
The Muscle Shoals Rhythm section: Barry Beckett on piano and organ, little David Hood on bass, Jimmy Johnson on rhythm, Pete Carr on lead guitar and legendary drummer Roger Hawkins.
Good call. Ken Perk. And The Dixie Hummingbirds.

He's certainly not. Not quite yet. And least not among musicians who value him.

Another one of those songs back in my high school days, 1975-76 or so, what a great time in life...
Except, we didn't know it then..!!😐
I loved this song as kid. Probably a bit too much cause when I left home at 17...I took the vinyl album with me & I've still got it. It was my mum's.
@@artinnevada Yep! I've got the gatefold style vinyl album and you're right. Vinyl sounds richer, deeper and more authentic (scratches & hisses) than other forms of music. I wonder how much it's worth?
😂
💀..Hmmm.., (sighh..). If 'twas me, I would've returned it to my Mom, instead of braggin' about it, to "strangers"..but, whateva.., none o' my biz..(lol..)smfh)
@@Maldoror200 I fear one doesn't have a sense of humour or understand 'tongue in cheek'. As kids we'd sing & dance to this album most Sundays before & after church. Out of us five kids, one of us had to have it. And I got it before my siblings did. My mother doesn't care... cos 'she loves me like a rock!
I still feel guilty; I left a place with ZZ Top one foot in the blues!
