Wim Winters' own personal views, feelings, thoughts, interpretation and performance, are spread before us in unique demonstration of beyond the musical notes - in this case, the wonderful Prelude in Em by Bach. Even though it is a subjective perception of this Prelude, it is based on objective musicological facts and well-based knowledge of the Baroque music, plus vast experience of performance on several keyboards. Amazing upload. Bravo!
In very Bernsteinian fashion, explaining the effective, relatable feelings instead of only what the common man could perceive as a theory-focused diatribe. In the end, “instrumentally practical” music “firstly and primarily” needs to communicate emotions and not just a concrete thesis.
Thank you for this reflection, it enhanced my perception of this piece. In my opinion, WTC 1 should definitely be among the most listened "albums" of all time, even nowadays! It is such a rich emotional journey.
That was way more exciting and passionate than many films, series or youtube videos. This is how music should be taught: deciphering the underneath stories that can relate to our passions. OK, I am a bit partial, anything with Bach in it has already my attention... Still, amazing job!
