Set it off is a band that speaks about truth and doesn’t sugarcoat it. There are evil people around us. Narcissists, psychopaths, crazy ones, fake friends, backstabbers etc. There are also good ones that’s why they also have songs like “why worry”. You just can’t let bad people overwhelm you and live your life and not be with fake ass friends and be fake yourself as well.

I love the contrast between the deep, meaningful lyrics and the snakes behind them. I know it’s meant to be symbolic, but I can’t help but find it funny that this intense music is paired with some of the cutest snakes I’ve ever seen.

one of my ‘fake ass friends’ recently (as in LITERALLY two days ago) reached out to me after six months of not talking to each other. she immediately tried to guilt trip me over being done with her toxic behavior and leaving the friend group, instead of checking in to see why I even left in the first place.
set it off has been posting these singles all throughout this process of me choosing myself over the toxic people in my life and they’ve really helped me cope with my recent loneliness. I might’ve folded and gone back to her if it weren’t for songs like punching bag cheering me onwards.
I relate a lot to this song. When someone comes to talk with me I'm like "You're nice ! It's cool !" Even if I don't think it because I use to be too nice. We become "fake friends" and I do a lot for them when they do nothing for me. I try to end the relationship when I notice it but I don't have a lot of other people to go with and it's my only "friend" in the class so when we have to do group work...
This is why I love hypnotised too ! I'd love to sing in right in front of them but I'm too nice and shy...

This songs relates to the 'Fake Ass Friends' I met in the past. I've been nothing but pulled down into the pits of Hell because of my poor decisions in finding good people to hang out with. OK, so this is how I read the lyrics:
All but the last set are from the perspective of your true self/a fragment of your true personality or your previous friends who you repress in order to chameleon, hence you stepping on their throat.
Then at the end it flips perspective and instead comes from the mouth of the "fake ass friends" you actually wanted to deceive, people you knew wouldn't accept you unless you faked it until you made it. And now you've got what you needed from them so you cut them off and get rid of them, shadowed by their final message "Good luck with your fake ass friends" who you know are your only true friends, finally free to actually be yourself.
