  • Forecast for the afternoon was 10 kn, in gust we got up to 20. We had great fun to push Proasis for this unplanned speed trial. Top speed was 11.7 kn but we were to excited to turn on the camera. The video shows 8-9 knots. The feeling of 10 kn and above is just magical. The whole platform starts to vibrate, spray is flying around the bow and and you just hear a loud shhhh from the wake behind. Its Like flying a magic carpet!

Love seeing your videos. I’m building my second proa for coastal cruising/surfing Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama.

Looks just great - seems really comfortable at that speed.

It is indeed! But no significant waves in the video. We have very steep and short chop on the Baltic. In these conditions she slams a bit and every once in a while splash from the front of the small hull is flying over the trampoline. Preferred place to sit is either inside or at the back corner of the tramp with the back leaning on the cabin side.

@@proasisproject Well no boat is perfect but for the low cost and simple build Proasis certainly seems pretty capable. I think there is real elegance to the design. How do think it compares to Wamcat ?

@@chrisclarke5040 the WAM cat has deep V canoe hulls. They pitch way more. On the other hand it is a whole lot easier to sail (no shunting) and less complicated to operate. In the Marshalls I've put a tiny girl on one and she could manage all on her own without actual sailing experience. It is way simpler and less expensive to build too. An experienced crew can make one in 2 weeks. That said much of the experience gained while designing, building and sailing Proasis went into the WAM cat.

:D no the opposite! We developed the design based on and in collaboration with Marshallese designs. Check out proas.is

Not really, something between beam and upwind
