One thing that has distinguished Bicep music for me is melody and variety beyond the run of the mill edm repetitive beatmaking. Sadly, that is missing here. There is subtle textural variarion, perhaps appealing to fellow edm producers but I miss the broad sweeping gestures that I associate with this artist.

There's sort of a split between "songs" and "tracks" in dance music, and this is more on the "track-y" side. It's more of a dj tool for a mix and less of a song to listen to on its own.

Not really, the depth of sound sets it apart from the start. If you were going to criticise anything it might be the progression; it sounds like it's leading into another build up then fades out and ends. That's no issue for live sets though.
I commented that it feels like a draft version of Water, as if they recorded a bunch of lyrics with Clara and tried a bunch with the tune.
It kinda reminds me of As The Rush Comes by Motorcycle but I like it

Bicep are firmly my favourite ever house producers. I thought Helium was one of their best releases so far. However whilst obviously subjective, for me this is not at the same level when compared to their last countless releases. Saw another comment just saying underwhelming.... sadly that's probably my thoughts on this one as well.
Making me feel like bicep are getting static - come on lads. This is a worse version of as the rush comes or old tiesto. Still waiting for something decent
They're definitely not getting "static", since this is very, very different from their previous stuff. They're trying out new styles, and any first attempts at a different style are going to sound kinda generic at first.
They're experimenting with different styles precisely to avoid going static over the longer term, and I'm here for it, so far.
They're definitely making some weird blunders just now with their new project (including overcomplicated, radio-unfriendly track titles) - but experimenting with different styles is very much a good thing to be doing.

@@bigbushman7968 They actually recently updated Helium to what I think is a better version. Unannounced, but you can tell it's different to the original release.

because they cant release all the same stuff all the time. its unfortunate that you dont like it but a majority do and some people may love this type of music. you cannot expect them to post the same exact tunes. this album symbolises a change
