  • Pumpkin is a variety of winter squash. It is round, with a smooth skin, slightly ribbed, and the color is usually dark yellow to orange.
Pumpkins are native to North America (Northeastern Mexico and Southern United States). Pumpkin is one of the oldest domesticated plants, used as early as 7,000 to 5,500 BC. Pumpkin pie is a traditional part of Thanksgiving meals in Canada and the United States. Pumpkins are often carved into pumpkin lanterns as Halloween decorations, although commercial canned pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie fillings are usually made of butternut squash varieties that are different from pumpkin lanterns. In 2019, China's pumpkin production accounted for 37% of the world's total.

So , in case you don’t know , those little black flies that infest all of your soil in every one of these videos are known as fungus gnats. You don’t have to have them and in fact they’re bad for your plants because they eat the roots of your plants. They’re also horribly affecting the soil and your plant isn’t getting all the nutrients and good from the soil because of them. Most , if not all potting soil‘s that are sold in stores are contaminated by fungus gnat eggs. It doesn’t matter how much you spend or what brand of soil you get. If you’d like you can get rid of them and prevent this problem. You can pour boiling water over your potting soil before you use it. Make sure to place some aluminum foil over the soil after you poured the boiling water to trap all the heat in so it’ll kill all the eggs and lava. Leave it sit atleast 30 minutes with the heat trapped in . If you do this you’ll never have a fungus gnat infestation again. You can also treat current infestation by using a peroxide solution. Typically one part peroxide to three parts water. And treat the plant with this mixture twice a week when you’d typically water until the fungus gnats are gone. it’s much better for your plants and much better for you because you won’t be dealing with those annoying little gnats flying around 🙂

Gnats can damage seedlings but will not bother mature plants. The larvae are mostly eaters of soil fungus and the adult flies are primarily reproductive. The best specific pesticide is a bacterium included in Mosquito Dunks and the best preventitive is to bottom water your pots, drying the top layer of soil out.
