@@DavesBonsai Thanks, Dave! Yup exactly. I know one day I’ll have a cold frame setup, but for now I’ll make do. Luckily this Apple Tree has been dormant since early fall, so it should be (hopefully! 🤞🤞) ok.
I wonder if it would grow from a root cutting? That tap root would make a real cool looking trunk . Very nice dave! Edit: oh I see you had the same thought 😂
@@BuffaloBonsai Thanks! Yeah I’m hoping they will propagate. I have them soaking in water now. I’ll add them into their own pot with some soil this weekend.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 yup! It was a seed from a grocery store apple that I sliced up for my daughter’s lunch one day. It’s funny how i have 3 trees growing still from the one apple.
It would be interesting to see it developed as a raft style, with several trunks rising vertically from the new horizontal trunk. As if in nature, it was knocked down and the side branches became trunks in their own right, connected at the base.
@@geezerontheloose yes that would be very cool! This would be a good candidate for a raft style. I’m curious what the tree will give me as far as branches this year. This will be a fun one to watch!
@@dreamingofbonsai I've never worked with an apple tree, but I have some crabapple cuttings rooting now, and I hope to do some air layering on a full-size crabapple in the yard this spring. I look forward to seeing how this one develops for you.
Well, shoot. I guess Apples will do that being early risers. I keep apples outside year round here, I gotta imagine they’d survive there too. I like what you did to her. Cascading apple? Nice root work
@@baldyeti Yeah a cascading apple might be pretty neat. This one was giving me a lot of geometric vibes from the roots and this trunk. Maybe I’ll try keeping the apples outside next year. In Pennsylvania we only see a week or so of days in the single digits fahrenheit. Not a ton of extreme weather. So if you’re able to keep them outside all year long maybe I’ll try one out next winter. I just noticed another apple tree is waking up now as well. So I’ll probably do a repot on that one this weekend too.
Nothing specifically for root growth, but when the trees start to wake up from dormancy like this I do add about a teaspoon per gallon of water with Miracle-Gro 18-18-21 mix fertilizer. I usually fertilize from spring to summer.
@dreamingofbonsai You mean, after such a drastic root cutting, you don't give any rootbuster? It's fascinating how the plant survives then. I fertilize with yellow kristalon 18-40-18 ... P(40) is good for root growth, but they have to be healthy.
@@MAVS-TV yeah usually when I prune my trees back like this they are fine. I’ll have to look into a rootbooster. I’m sure that would help even more! I’ll check out the yellow kristalon as well.
Hi Dave, the new growth will correct itself . Nature provide this . Lets hope there will be some new branches 😇
Yeah I’m excited to see how this one will grow now!
A crazy root. Nice root pruning.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks! Yeah that was a bit of a tangled root system.
I like your idea of laying the tree on its side and seeing if it sprouts some side branches or the neck curves up toward the sun. Great video!
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 Thanks, Tom! Yeah very curious how this one will grow!
Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are! Hope it thrives.

What root regeneration product do you use ?
