I once had a dream that Al Pachino came over to my house and he brought Bushido Blade with him. We played for three hours and he let me keep the game afterwards

In Bushido Blade, you actually have to fight honorably. ie, using bushido. Like for example, slashing them when they're down, when they're talking and not ready, or in the back will automatically cause you to get the bad ending since you're breaking their code.

Bushido Blade rewards your for playing smart. You don't actually have to fight any of the first fights (and if you don't you beat the game as a hero) which is why your guy is talking about how much he respects everyone when he kills them. Just run away through the stages and you skip straight to the bosses.

With as far as graphics and gameplay mechanics have come, a modern day Bushido Blade would be AWESOME! There can even be a VR version for the 1st person mode.

This game have a "Honor" System too. Attack people from the back, at the beginnig of the match and throw sand to then will affect the story

Wish there was a modern version of this

The ending where Black Lotus' wife narrates his disappearance was a LOT better than the "bad" ending seen here.

Max's final fight was actually pretty sick.

This game dealt with expert timing and strategy and back in the 90s me and some people I knew used to throw tournaments for this game brought a real sense of high steaks due to the fact that you can be gone in one momentary slip-up in that sense it gave it a feeling of high-stakes gambling especially if you actually put money on the line. And because of this this game has been the most single realistic weapons sward game you could ever play ever.

Multiplayer Bushido Blade is amazing... I spent hours and hours playing it with a friend of mine. First to 100 goes in a flash

Used to love firing this up while friends were over. Most of our matches wound up with both people limping around on one leg, flailing around with one arm because the other one was all hacked up. So much fun.

This and tenchu are my guilty pleasures of psx era. I loved creating stages in tenchu even with the horrible draw distance and graphics and I loved running around stages in bushido blade looking for ways to trick my opponent. Your right about the charm of these old graphics, something about how a good artist would find a way to use these well. MGS and vagrant story come to mind.

I remember this game. Still overwhelmingly the most accurate depiction of sword fights in gaming

There are special criteria you can meet for special endings and hidden bosses. You have to reach the sewer on your own, follow the Bushido code of honor, and defeat all your opponents without taking any damage. Certain character and weapon combinations can help with this. Mikado and the naginata is a solid combination, but Mikado runs slowly in the windy zone just before the sewer.

Regarding that ending, if I remember right everyone has two endings. If you lose a single match, and/or fight dishonorably (throwing sand, backstabs, attacking a taunting or downed opponent) you'll get the bad ending that usually ends in seppuku, because you're not upholding the code of bushido. It's actually a kinda neat gimmick.
