There's a couple of things here that you don't need to do, but the highlight is when you removed the zipper. Just it scootch down and out of the way.
Also, make sure to measure where that metal bracket is going. If you make it offset like this, the zipper will break right out when you zip it up.

Surely there's no need to take off the slider? Wouldn't it be better to slide the slider lower down the zip, then take off the teeth and stoppers?

      Exactly.
Also have a look at app,103 reply. It works much better and leaves the part of the zip that takes the most wear un-weakened.

@@wilsjane Thank you for suggesting I look at the post of app 103. Their suggestion is much better.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I am an engineer, so needless to say, I always end up having to shorten the zips when my wife is replacing them. LOL.
PS, I could not believe that the person in a video posted by the zip manufacturer made such a botch of it. Pulling the closer off was crazy and the way they put the top stop back on would have not lasted more than a week. Not to mention using the wrong tools. LMAO

Yeah why did you take off the slider? Thats just more work for you later.

it’s A LOT easier to measure, mark and remove just ONE stop (the bottom one) and then add it again zipper closed, just place on top and squeeze closed with pliers . One move, no removing teeth or slider ...

That is easier, but just to play devil's advocate, this video might be helpful for people making alterations to clothing, such as making a dress into a skirt with a zipper that probably ought not to be messed with.

Why wouldn't you just take a seam ripper and cut all the coils off at once. you could also take a razor blade and scrape the threads off the top of the coils and they would all come off at once. Say you have to take 10" off a zipper you expect someone to cut off every single coil. Good video but the method is slow

You Americans are focused far too much on project completion and you rush rush rush to get there. Where is the joy in that? Just like your lives, rushing to get somewhere, do something, achieve some goal, log some result. And this is why your lives feel empty because end results are just measurements, markers. the byproduct of effort, of our lives and as a result the best part, the living part just slides right out from underneath you like an automaton....input here/output there, disembodied from a conscious mind focused on the future, convinced that is where happiness resides.
The joy is in the doing, in the living of it, the experience of experiencing.

I'm confused as to why you are doing this at the top of the zipper, when doing it to the end stop would mean only having to move one stop, and means none of the zipper teeth have to be removed? After watching this video I moved the end stop and it's much less work.

I was looking at this clip before shortening a pair of trousers with zippers at the bottom. So for me this is exactly what I was looking for.

the material around the end stop might be reinforced, and so you might want to keep it for durability.

Why take the slider off? Why reattach the stops at different heights? Why cut the fabric so short at the top since that’s needed for sewing the zipper in? There is nothing PRO a about this video.

This doesn't seem like a very good tutorial. It was fast forwarded through the very thing for which I'm struggling, removing the top stop without destroying it. Then on the other side of the zipper you skipped the removal all together. Also, it was not necessary to remove the zipper slider. This video is frustrating.

Cannot see the point of cutting out all those teeth ? Why not just remove a few either side of the zip in the area you want the zip to finish and then cut it ? Also you replaced the stops out of alignment with each other - they did not line up when you closed the zipp. Pretty poor video in my opinion - you could have saved a lot of time doing it other ways.
