FLOATING INTO VERTICAL RECOVERY

  • This video shows a few different ways to sight while swimming in the open water.
    "Alligator eyes" require the least amount of head lift
    "Up-Side-Down" involves lifting the head to sight, then turning it to the side to inhale and then pushing it back down in the water to get your hips back up.
    "Side-Up-Down" is similar but in reverse. You turn your head to inhale, then lift it to sight and then put it back down to get your hips back up.

    I found this video 2 days ago and yesterday I tried these in the pool - it helped me very much, thank you. That was the missing thing - how to regain feet. I asked many people - they just did not know to answer! I begin to trust water and to feel confident. (At age 33 :))
    IT IS EXCELLENTLY DONE AND EXPLAINED SIMPLY!!! THX

    Good tips on the back to vertical position. This is where I still struggle. I can recover from the face down position since day one but having a hard time with my back. I am 50 and finally taking classes to learn how to swim. I see a lot of adults here doing the same. Good luck everyone!

      I struggle with this too. I can come to standing from on my back easily, but I don't know what it is about my front.

    Great. Found what i'm looking for!....one reason i panic is that even though i can float, when i run out of breath, i sink and in fact drowning isn't an exaggeration! This is in only water up to my chest, but if i can't recover and experience the panic every time, i'm less likely to ever learn how to swim

      I have the same problem too. Heck, my younger sisters are more excited to dip in a much deeper water level that I prefer. Yesterday we went to a swimming pool and there were 2 pools, a round one the water reached my abdominal area, and the bigger one which the water reached up to my upper chest area where I could still stand but I have this great fear of drowning. By the time I was jealous of my sisters having fun at the deep pool swimming around and I don't know how to swim, I decided to join them. I knew there was a swimming technique where you could keep your head up while swimming but I didn't really know the strokes so I decided to invent a stroke of my own that will suit my swimming style. After five minutes I learned how to swim with my head up, I thought i was a genius xD but when we went home I decided to look it up and lol I nailed the strokes xD

    Thank you very much. Your tutorial is exactly what my teacher told me to do. In the lesson, I was so scared and could not resemble his way. Now I watch yr tutorial, it is so easy to understand and visulize above and underwater. Amazing tutorial i ever seen. Thanks a lot :x

    Starting to learn swimming once AGAIN this year. 45 yrs old. I have always struggled with recovering from float positions. NONE of the instructors were able to solve this puzzle for me. Hopefully, I will try this tomorrow at the pool. Finally seems like I can be confident in water.

      Naveen Bedi If you feel your body going out of balance let it. Just concéntrate on the movement of recovery and relax while doing so. The balance will come later as you practice this more.

    Thanks for the video Im 35 & just learning how to swim. My instructor is very nice & patient but could not seem to explain to me how to recover fro floating on my back. She would just say act like you sitting in a chair but I couldn't get it. I think the missing piece is using my arms to scoop the water under me. Ill try this today at the pool, thanks a lot!

    • @jogmas12
      @jogmas12 7 лет назад +2

      Chi2Indy its all about relaxing. You need to first relax and feel comfortable in the Water before you can advance. Part of the recovery process from either a back or front float is relaxation. If you are relaxed enough to front float You need to be relaxed enough to perform the recovery. Its not about balance, balance will come later as you do this more. Listen one of the reason you fail to recover is you feel your body going out of balance when you start to recover then you start to panic and this leads to failure. Relax during the whole motion of floating on back or front and going to recovery.

      Pam Tooke try sculling the water with your hands as one does when they are treading Water at the same time bend at the hip and bring your knees toward your chest, at this point you should be in a vertical position and just bring your feet down to touch the bottom of the pool.

    It's been a month of me taking swimming lessons and I still can't overcome my fear of drowning. I am still using kick board to float. I have this extreme fear of losing body balance if I bend my arms under water. This is why I still haven't learned how to stand in water. I can stand alright when I have a kick board with me, my arms keep straight, I bend my knees and lift my head and I stand up. I can't get rid of the kick board because I have fear of losing balance if I bend my arms. Any tips for me? :(

      One suggestion is that, say to yourself, everytime before you try, that you are in chest deep water and there is no way that you will drown!

    Yes...goggles do make a huge difference....once the stinging and disorientation is gone it makes it so much easier to concentrate on other things.....the first ever time i managed to get my head under water was with goggles (and finger pinched nose)...once you realise that you can be underwater and not panic it frees you to experiment. Do get some goggles..and good luck with the swimming ;)

      Anu, is your concern learning to float? You might focus less on this recovery technique, and more just on floating. Easiest to begin on your back if you are anxious in the water at all. Then you can proceed to the survival float (face down, limbs like the legs of a table, butt in the air) and HOLD a breath til ready for the next breath. At that point, SLOWLY exhale underwater through nose, move arms in sweeping motion and legs in scissor motion, and raise head for a breath, then go back to the face down floating position. I'm making this sound much harder than it is. I can't speak for the video producer, but I believe this is more of a focus on quickly getting back on your feet rather than a true survival lesson. There are a ton of good videos to learn to swim on RUclips. One series is stress free swimming. You should start just by trying to put your face in the water. Don't even worry about technique. Just get comfortable....but of course only do this in the presence of someone who is qualified to teach/rescue. Good for you for taking this on!

    • @jogmas12
      @jogmas12 7 лет назад +1

      Summer4life2 you cant float on your back because you are not relaxed, you do not feel comfortable nor do you Trust the Water to hold you up like it does on the front float. You need to dimiss all these beliefs and Trust the Water and dont fight the water.

      @@jogmas12 I can float both ways but I cant recover from back float coz everytime I try the water goes into my nose. Even though I hold my breath as soon as the water goes abouve my nose I gulp and that somehow makes the water go inside my nose...
