Rev. Fr. Jersey Prepose’s Thanksgiving Mass

    Published January 9, 2019
    Translation -
    Fr. Jersey:
Each time my vocation weakens, every time I no longer want to continue and give up my priestly vocation, I would always go to him. I would always go to Dagupan City to talk to him. The last time I spoke with him was during my 4th year in Theology. I told myself, whatever Fr. Soc would tell me, I know it is God’s message to me. And Fr. Soc told me to continue. So now, here I am before you.
    Bishop Soc:
Is there a seminarian who, during his studies inside the seminary, didn’t went through doubts and loneliness? Is there a seminarian who never became tired of praying or a seminarian who would not ask, “Is what I’m doing right?” Is there a seminarian who is so kind and while inside the seminary, a perfect seminarian? The answer is - None. And Fr. Jersey was one of those seminarians.
Is there a priest who never get tired of praying? Is there a priest who didn’t had lustful thoughts? Is there a priest who was never tempted of a comfortable life? Is there a priest who didn’t doubt his vocation? Still, the answer is - None. Fr. Jersey and me, both of us are among those priests. We are called “inadequate, lacking”. Every priest is inadequate. As St. Francis of Assisi would say, “useless, worthless sinner”. Fr. Jersey and I, we were those priests, but we were forgiven, forgiven despite our inadequacy and insufficiency, forgiven by God. And by the mercy of God, this morning, Jersey became a priest. Not a temporary priest, but a priest forever. Until the return of the Lord, until the end of time, Jersey will still be priest. Forgiven by God though lacking, forgiven by God even if lazy, forgiven by God although lustful, forgiven by God albeit indecent, cleansed by God. And no priest who offers sacrifice at the altar could say that “I am worthy.” Because before he eats the Body of Christ, before he drinks the Blood of Christ, everyday the priest would say, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive You, but why me?”. And forever the priest would always ask, “Why me?”, and forever that question, that “Why me?”, would remain unanswered. But he was not only forgiven. Now, he is also trusted. He has been trusted with the power that is not given even to the angels. Had you ever thought about it? - that you could not make a confession to angels because angels could not pardon and absolve your sins. Fr. Jersey could. He was trusted despite of everything. Not only in his insufficiency, not only because he is forgiven, he also became the overseer of the secrets of God’s Kingdom. Time will come when you will feel that you are not only lacking, but had also fallen in the dust.
You know, Fr. Jersey, God knows that after your ordination, you will still betray Him. God knows that after your ordination, you will still stumble. But even though God knows these, He still called you and He promised “Albeit, if those might happen, I will lift him up, I will raise him up because my call will never ever change. And hopefully, the Voice that you heard calling you, “Jersey, leave JRI (school), leave Letran (university), leave Orani (town). Jersey, My faithful steward, you are no longer lacking, you lived by My grace and mercy. Welcome back to the House, to the Kingdom of God.”
