I had encounters with pairs in Louisiana and Florida in 2006 and 2007, and I am confident that the very capable team in Arkansas had sightings. It seems highly unlikely that a bird, which had survived in barely detectable numbers for 100 years, would suddenly go extinct not long after being observed in three locations.
