I have the inflator, and it has exceeded my expectations. It's super compact, lightweight, and pumps up my tires fast. Can't go wrong.
The m18 inflator is my go to carry around with me unit. I keep a m12 inflator in my wife's car. Both very easy to use units.
I agree. It's much faster than I expected, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cordless inflator. Test after test, and the other brands really aren't even in the same league.
I have the m18 compressor, and I was going to buy a m18 inflator from Home Depot to do a comparison to see which one is faster, as I’m laying on couch waiting for my wife putting on make up I found this video so, no more home depot run. 😂. Thank you sir.

New Subscriber, Pete Ross. Your video clarifies the inflator to be carried in the truck and the compressor for home/roof use for you. The outstanding feature about the inflator is that you can set the desired psi and walk away.

I have the compressor and use it to blow off debris on what ever I am working on. Works great for nailers also. I use my M12 inflator for the tires.
I use my inflator and compressor a lot. No issues with either.Different applications call for different tools.

I've seen the Inflator fill almost 25 tyres of various sizes & types on one 18Ah battery. It's a fantastic compact mobile tool. For that application it's perfect.
I was also surprised with how much it can do.

I have the m12 inflator. It is awesome for its intended purpose but if you need something for more than just inflating tires, the choice is clear. But I bought the inflator because I was tired of charging my compressor, untangling the air hose and playing with pressure gauge just to inflate a tire.
That's a great point. I have and use both at work. Depends on the job at hand and which one you happen to have with you. I keepnthe m12 in my wife's vehicle and the m18 stuff at work.
Same here. Plus I wanted a small form factor so I could keep it in my car. If it takes another minute to inflate, that's fine with me. It's not like I'm inflating my tires every day.

Love the video I definitely know the compressor would be more handy the little m12 does great but if your regular filling tires it's just time consuming the m12 does great on lawn mowers fourwheelers and small trailer tires but its 10 minute deal filling a 31 to 33 inch tire
Even the m18 inflator would be nicer but the option to have compressed air on the go is better in most situations
The m12 is great for adding air to a tire but if it's a bigger tire or more than one, then I prefer the m18. I feel the m12 gets over worked.

1 must mention: when using m18 inflator you should account for small air reduction when unhooking hose. Definitely a plus when needing to expel excess or deflate (simply half unscrew chuck)
Good point. Doesn't matter how fast you are you will loose some air.
I got a 5 USD quick release adaptar and works like a charm
I just got the inflator, i added a 1.5gal portable air tank. It kind of works like a compressor and is awesome at cleaning up the tools at the end of the day
Good idea, is the inflator able to keep up? What other tools can you run now? I might build one too.
One thing not mentioned is duty cycle. The compressor can be run as long as you have batteries. The inflator can go for 20 minutes and then needs a 40 minute rest. That's not bad, considering you'll probably get all 4 tires on a car done in 20 minutes. For comparison, the Ryobi P747 does 5 on and 5 off.

You should be done less than 10 minutes according to this testing with an 8.0 battery. Should still be at 3/4 charge after 4 tires. The only reason to get a compressor is for multiple tasks other than tires.

I have run a framing gun with mine a number of times but you just can't do it in Rambo mode. It will also run a coil nailer. I think the real reason it is not recommended is bec
It takes one bar off a 12.0 just to fill it from empty. Batteries get eaten faster than a fat kid loves cake. I wish the compressor came with a 110 optu

How much of a time difference is it starting with a full tank of air VS empty? For example, if you need to air up all 4 tires, all but the first are not really able to benefit from the tank.
1 minute longer per tire but 24 pounds lighter is still a win in my books. Definitely going to be picking one of these up for my rig
Not to mention the compressor started fulland didn't have to fill the tank first.

this larger compressor can be used for amateur painting furniture moldings?
I have never tried it for painting. Some sprayers require a lot of air volume. Should be good for short bursts but I think it might have a hard time keeping up. If you try it let me know how it works.

Definitely a case by case scenario I have the M18 tire inflator and it works great when I'm on a road call. Never had any issues or complaints with it, now with the compressor it's gonna depend on what tools you already own. But if you already own a surplus of Milwaukee tools I don't see much of a point in buying the compressor compared to the inflator.
You have a good point. I like the compressor when I'm dealing with larger tires. That way I don't work my Inflator too hard.
Compressor is faster will last longer and you can use it to clean things ect

@@shanersmechaniclife3164 Great video! I think this comment better answers the question I had. I have the m18 inflator but was considering the compressor if it puts out more volume. I'm using it to top off 18 wheeler and 52" all terrain crane tires to 100psi. If the compressor is able to fill the tire plus the 2 gallon tank from zero faster than the inflator on the tire alone then it must be moving a little more volume. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the review man. My question is, would the air compressor be good as an airbrush? Specifically to spray myself down when I get out of the basement (which doubles as my shop). The wife is tired of me tracking dust, sawdust and misc dirt upstairs.
If you haven’t found a solution to this already, look at the Ryobi inflator. It’s dirt cheap, tiny, and is perfect for blowing off sawdust/similar. It’s high-volume only, don’t get the mini-leaf blower.
That's kind of cheating, already having the 2 gal tank 'pre filled' it's not like it's a good idea to keep it consistantly under pressure...
I appreciate your feedback. I always drain it. My thought process was that you would start filling it as soon as you got it from where it was stored. It would be full by the time you got to the flat. Another viewer mentioned something similar. I timed it from empty and it filled same tire in 2min 20sec.
I can see where you're coming from, but I think it makes sense to test with it already filled. You get more information testing that way than if you had to fill the tank for like a minute beforehand... Just add the tank fill time to the existing one. Shaner's test really shows that having more volume really can impact the speed.
Either way, if you're just pumping tires, the inflator probably is the way to go. It's easy and simple, you don't need to check the pressure yourself and you don't need to hold the chuck on the stem. (Especially if you are weary of those trailer tires that require 80 psi and you don't want to be near them while they are pumping up.)
If you want something more versatile and don't mind the weight and the extra space needed to store/move it. The air compressor is pretty awesome. If you're a carpenter you can use tons of tools from it.
No, it's not cheating. It's a benefit of going with a compressor versus Inflator.
Do you remove the attributes that are seen as a negative for the compressor such as size, weight etc? Of course not. This was a comparison between these two Milwaukee tools.
The tank is designed to hold the air and has a relief valve in the event it became over pressurized. The only inherent problem would be humidity. Quit trying to make a case for a tool by complaining. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. That's life Steve.
@@JST4CYL whilst the tank is designed to hold air, I'm sure the instructions and the OP has mentioned that they do not keep it at pressure. I feel the comparison is flawed because the tank was "pre filled" compared to the M18 tire filler, which started atmospheric pressure. Rather than something around 100PSI...

The M18 inflator is great when you need to add some air to your tires only and if you have a flat tire use a compressor. It's a lot faster.
You're one of few that showed connecting the chuck to the tires. I guess the other people does not want to show that you need to screw the chuck to the valve like those old fashion hand pumps. I wonder why they did not use the quick connect or clip on chuck.
Might be a good idea for Milwaukee to include an adapter in the kit. I try to show as much as possible in a review without having the video run too long. Thanks for your feedback.
I have an M18 inflator which I leave in my truck. It's perfect for walking around my truck or trailer and topping off air when needed as well as making quick and easy pressure adjustments to airbag hitches and helper springs. The battery lasts seemingly forever and with a LockNFlate air chuck, I can set the pressure and quickly attach and detach the air chuck. Exactly what I wanted. The small size makes storing it under the back seat a non-issue.
I would go with the compresor only for the multi purpose
The compressor is my favorite for that reason aswell.
I think I’ll wait for the next gen of this compressor once it takes two batteries and they work out any kinks

I would like if it could use it as a strong duster for computer parts that have lint on them.
You can use it to blow things off. Not a lot of pressure or volume but it will work with the included attachments if you set the pressure higher. Thanks for watching and commenting.
For my truck when I have room the air compressor is a lot better you just have to have Quality Batteries the only thing is the weight of the entire unit the handheld unit or what I'd call a handheld unit if you can't carry something heavy and you're just filling up tires or doing some little dumb stuff it's good that you can just hook and forget about it come back and your toy will be aired up the air compressor you have to babysit it that's the only thing that sucks but it is quiet so when you don't work inside of apartment Wherever not piss off people

You know I really wonder if you double checked the tire pressure in that thing. I have a similar Ryobi inflator and I discovered that the hose actually gets so hot you can't get a good reading on the air pressure.
I haven't noticed any issues with mine. It makes sense that air pressure could vary if the unit heats up. If hot sir is pumped in the pressure will dropbas it cools. Good point.
I would like to see how long it takes to fill the compressor? Then add it to total time. The inflator is ready to go from the start and don't need time to build air. Total time would be a more fair fight.

How long does it take the compressor to fill its tank from 0?
What's up Shanners, I'm gonna ask a couple different pages, but I'm looking for a portable air compressor that will top my tires off from 50 to 55psi on my truck. My tire size is 285/60/R20. Are there any out there? If so, what are your opinions on the best? A video would be amazing.
The smaller m18 one on here I have will hit 80 psi on tire.

It performs well for short bursts. Bigger tanks would help.
So which one of this two tools consumes after 15 mins +/- the most battery juice ? The compressor is of course more useful for many applications have you got to the auto shut down max time out I believe is 20mins or it might depend on temperature too which is a safety feature but that might suck if your working and can use the compressor but also gives time to recharge battery 😅 but I liked you video I was also wonder which one was more convincing at some point thank you .
Thank you for your feedback and comment. The compressor uses batteries more quickly, so if you are planning on running it lots have a couple batteries ready. I found the compressor more convincing because I use it for more than just airing up tires. Like blowing stuff off and light air tools.
@@shanersmechaniclife3164 good to know, I assumed the inflator would be worse, since the compressor is brushless. Its a good thing they made the compressor brushless, or it would be noticeably worse, but I'm betting time differences favor the compressor more at higher pressures, like 80 or 100 psi.
This is a dumb question but just curious because I think I would use the inflator for 99.9% of the tasks around the house. I don't have any air tools and I would use the inflator for car tires, bike tires, air mattresses etc. That being said, there are times where I could use some "compressed" air to clean out/dry off parts/tools etc. Can you set the inflator to some arbitrary PSI value and briefly use it to blow off dust/dirt/debris?
The inflator doesn't work for blowing dust or debris around. It's just little puffs of air from the open end of the hose. You would need the compressor with its stored volume of air for that.
I have seen people put the basketball needle attachment on and set it to 70psi then blow stuff off. Not a huge amount of airflow but it might work.
What brand gauge was you using with the air tank?
Sorry I don't know what brand it is. There's no logo on it. I've had it for a long time.
Did you start filling up the tire when the air compressor was empty or did you let it fill first? Time should have started from the second it started filling the tank

What if i would want to use any of them as a high pressure cleaner driving force, using a spray can, you know a type using for foam spreading or similar? Do i have any chance to succede with any of these?
I don't think they would keep up with a pressure cleaner. Maybe in short bursts.

@@AlexUncut for your application I would go with the compressor. You can regulate the output pressure on the tank so it would be more consistent. My concern is how much air your application calls for. Might be more air than either units can keep up with.

The tank did most of the heavy lifting. I'd be more fair/interesting to start the compressor as you start to fill the tire.

Both will fill a tire, but which air tools do you run on your Compressor? The CFM looks like it will run nailers, but there are M18 nailers so why bother with this when its just one more thing between the battery and the tool ruining its efficiency?
Compressor is good for blow nozzles, vacuum brake bleeders, cooling system fillers, and cylinder leak down testers. Something for the mobile mechanics that don't want to carry a large compressor.
What air fittings does the larger M18 air compressor use?

The M18 is a universal fitting that fits multiple types. The M12 is a schrader valve.
The only difference its the the big compressor take the air tank to inflate the tire first... If you put a tank on the little same result i think.

@@shanersmechaniclife3164 it’s a devilbliss pro lite I do cosmetic repairs around houses like kitchen cabinet doors or a front door things like that. Just a couple coats per item not a whole lot of use

Think the inflator would work well on a Stand Up Paddleboard?

@@shanersmechaniclife3164 Amazon actually has an adapter valve that connects the board to a tire valve stem so it would be no different then a truck tire. Only 14psi but my cheaper cigarette lighter inflator takes at least 10 min to get to 14 psi so I was wondering if this would be faster. Thanks for the reply.
To answer your question, the paddle board has a halsey roberts valve and I’d love to find the fitting needed to use my m18 compressor to fill my paddle board. Then i could answer Mark’s question.
Try inflate small 6” tires with M18 inflator it give me wrong reading don’t know why.

Yes and it filled my portable air tank to 125 psi. With no problem. I am very glad that I have mine.
That would be a good idea PatrickNJ it would give you some benefits of the compressor. Provided you do not exceed the recommended pressure of the tank.
Can i inflate a paddleboard with the inflator?
That I don't know. Seems like a lot of volume but low pressure and a lot of run time. If I get my hands on something like that I will try and let you know.
Why didn't Milwaukee put the 12v plug in and have air mattress attachment like the DeWalt tire inflator did? DeWalt wins on this one in my opinion. Both awesome though.

Inflator does overheat and need to cool off. Compressor doesn't.
True. If your going to be using it often for long periods. Compressor is the way to go.

Still no quick connect on the inflator that's ridiculous , I know so many plumbers complain about that

M18 compressor will not pump up an f250 tire.
What size tire and what pressure? I don't see why it wouldn't. I'll try mine and see. Perhaps yours has an issue? Warranty?
It most definitely will (the m12 will also it just takes a lot longer) ive aired up from 20 to 70 with both on all 4 tires on my f350 and ram 2500 , it takes around 8 minutes to go to 70 with the m18

You're comparing apples to oranges, they're two different tools and each has their benefits depending on what you're getting them for.

The m12 compact inflator is garbage. Truck tire…. No real 8 lug truck tire is rated for 35psi. 80 psi for typical truck tire.
The M12 is more suitable for smaller tires. The right tool for the right job kind of thing.

Dumb. should have put the Gas powered ingersol rand compressor in the comparison.... lol

BS why don't you compare inflator to innflator and air compressor to air compressor
My idea was to show both units and what they could do. That way if someone was debating on buying an inflator or Compressor, then they could choose what suits their needs best. I know it's not really comparing apples to apples, but I don't want people to regret their purchase. Tools are expensive and I want people to get the best bang for their buck.
