There was yet another change to legendary fish pond output in update 1.6.15! For the most recent video update, head over here: ruclips.net/video/Kz_AlAngeEs/видео.html
Are they still worth it? Yes. They are a passive income source that requires little to no investment and minimal time to collect. You catch the fish, build a pond and collect. No maintenance, produces every season. No quests to fill the pond. Aging 2 Roe completely pays off the Fish Pond. If you want a Fish Pond on your farm, you should get them set up immediately. If you catch the Crimsonfish early enough (or the Legend if you want to exploit it), it's a massive rate of return for 5000g.
@@riklaunim I find farming Spicy Eel from a Fish Pond to be less optimal than just farming drops from Serpents with the buffs to Monster drops, honestly. With the book giving you a permanent chance to receive double drops and stacking it with the Burglar Ring, you're likely to get Spicy Eel every time you head into the Skull Caverns.
@@adiksaff I did exactly that and the very next day it dropped me 9 Roe. Needless to say, I got a *ton* of upgrades done. I'm actually hitting a resource crunch, I have more money than I can spend.
thanks for your diligent work! Much love to the science team! Definitely building full suite of ponds for every legendary fish. Definitely fits them better than sitting in a tank in the house in my opinion. Well done concernedApe! :)
A bunch of updates ago I would fish like crazy up until strawberry purchase, and buy materials for quality sprinklers with the sales. That was back when mining was the meta, way before even smokers. I'll have to check back in on that path.
Well, still worth it for sure, but the nerf is very strong, considering all the bonuses applies to the Roe produced by the 2 most valuable Legendary Fish Pond produces now barely half the amount of gold per day. Huge, but still worth your time and money because overall it's beneficial.
Even with the nerf, I was still gonna do this once I get my advanced iridium rod to try for 3 legends or whatever. I’m on the river lands farm, you gotta have fish ponds there haha
I can definitely understand the nerf. You can get a Legend fish pond up and running in Spring Year 1, and it was a pretty insane source a passive income, that doesn't even require doing quests or building up 10 fish. I kinda think they should make it so legendary fish ponds still have quests, challenging quests at that, but start with an even lower output, and each subsequent quest increases the output. As it is now, it's so incredibly hands-off that it seems kinda contradictory to Stardew's usual idea of "more time and effort = more profit" ie. Chickens and Cows make more than Ducks and Goats, but take twice the time/effort. It seems out of place that legendary fish ponds take the least time and effort to set up, and provide the most profit of all fish ponds.
Focusing on catching and ponding Legend ASAP is still the best way to start runs in 1.6, even if you're not doing a pond- or fishing-focused run. It's just so much free, effortless money early on. And sometimes, you'll get 8+ roe at once within a few days of ponding it, which gets you the greenhouse four days later, and that's it, the run is solved.
I'm still planning to do a pond for every legendary fish. Yesterday, I accidentally turned my "Legend" into fertilizer, and I had to restart the day. Didn't have the morale to go back and win the fishing battle a second time, even though it won't be difficult, I probably won't be as lucky as I was, catching the Legend on my first cast of the day.
It's a relief to know that most of the legendary fish haven't taken a major value hit from the update, if any hit at all. Great data, and great work scientists! The way I'm looking at the change now is how some players *might* have to ask themselves if they're willing to take the short-term consistency gamble on the Legend and Legend II ponds while waiting for its per diem to average out, as opposed to the lower average paying, but much faster to hit average, Crimsonfish pond. With other legendary fish ponds, you're likely to see about 22 payouts over the course of a full in-game year, so you'll notice any low-roe quantity payouts getting balanced out by high-rolls that much sooner. (And high-rolls balanced by low rolls in turn!) Meanwhile, the two Legend ponds are only likely to see about 10 payouts over the course of a year, barely more than once every two in-game weeks. While the roe quantities of these slower payouts could just as easily swing above the expected average in your early days, early low-rolls on the quantities could leave you under that average for an extended period of time. If you're going to keep the pond active for several years, none of this will likely even matter... but once you reach the Walnut Room and are catching Legend II's, it might not even be two years before Perfection is reached. So the question becomes: Do you take the lower expected per diem, but get to reach that expected per diem rate faster if things go poorly? Or do you take a slight dice roll, risking a longer recovery period from a bad start-up but hold onto the guaranteed of a higher per diem long-term? Decisions, decisions...
I would love to see a video by you and your scientists to see comparisons between all the money makers in the game, you have been one of the only people i have seen that actually uses a lot of datas like for example getting into fruittrees like cherrys and stuff no one else i know so far has done that and its amazing, havin a big indepth video on all money makers in game and havin a comparison would be nice especially since you tend to see more then just money/day but also other values like gift, how easy it is to optain, when you can get it running etc. I know that would prb be a really big and long video but i would 100% watch that and with enough science behind it we might actually have a proper amswer to quenstions like are cranberrys or pumpkins better etc.
That's a good idea. We've definitely considered it. All of the variables that you mention make it difficult to compare some things and we would probably need multiple metrics to rank everything. I'd love to do it if we can figure out a good way. Maybe someday 😜 Thanks for watching!
@@Kitadollx yeah sure, not all of them need to be considered, there have just been examples of what could be important, what i would say the most important factor is, money per tile since obviously a fishpond with Legend makes good money per day but also take 5x5 Tiles away that you could for example use for farming and what i think lots of people dont realise as well is seasons, i think if you compare crops with stuff it needs to be included how much you might get per year or season since if you take starfruit you obviously get tons of money with wine but you can only get them in summer except obviously on ginger island and the greenhouse, maybe its even worth building sheds with flowerpods and delux retaining soil for a constant harvest on your farm, i could imagine starfruit with delux retaining soil or just ancient fruit in a shed might be rather valuable, so yeah i get what you mean theres so much data and nuance you can have with all these different things, but im sure some stuff isnt as important as others, if you do make a tierlist out of it then i guess you might need to take more data since some crops like hops might not be the best for money making but would be amazing for early leveling to get farming to lvl 10 in your first summer so yeah im really interested on your approach on such a huge topic, makes me even more excited on your future videos, so far you have shown that you know how to look into data and what is considered really good alternatives, with maybe the exceptions on cherry trees being the best fruit trees but then you might prb just consider them better then bananas since bananas are somewhat hard to come by unless you go for treasure totems and golden coconut grind but yeah keep up with that work im excited to see what new content will be released in future
Hmmm, One could do a playthrough just earning money from fishponds and crab cages, that would probably be fun. Kinda need the crabcages to afford the first Fishpond unless you accept bribes from Lewis and Pierre, and even then, getting 5000 could take a long time that way. With a base rule that anything you put in the bin or sell to a trader would have to have originated in a fishpond or crabcage (smoking and aging would be fine. I just might do that when I am done with my pigfarm. Anyways, thanks Kita & Scientists. :)
If you're not getting any roe, it could just be bad luck. The low probability, especially for legend, can lead to a long string of days without roe. For context, while testing 10 legend II ponds, one of the ponds didn't produce anything for the first 40 days...
It makes sense it was going to get nerfed Still interesting that its still worth it though. Because now if you just fish in your first Spring, you can get more income then farming by far and all it takes is getting a legend in the first spring and just farming tons of roe off of it. A legend fish pond was better then farming 200 melons in your first summer. It needed nerfs really haha because if you then combined both methods you could become super rich really really early. And then go the Joja route and get the greenhouse before the end of the first Spring.
All of the legendary fish outcompete it in terms of money. It's still cool to have a lava eel pond for a few reasons like some of the items they can give you, but it isn't top of the line for aged roe price anymore.
Someone had a similar question in the pre-nerf video and this was my response: It's a little hard to get exact numbers, cause something like a lava eel has a bunch of different produce that may have more value to you than the sell price alone, and it may depend on professions too. To be competitive, it will require smoking an eel from the pond every 5 days. Assuming all the right professions and free coal, I think you can get around 1700g/day, which would be enough to beat the anglers. Golden animal crackers don't increase value from harvested fish though, so that only brings lava eels up to about 2800g/day, which means any legendary pond with a golden animal cracker will beat out any standard pond. Hopefully that helps :)
I mean, it might take a few days, it'll still give a helluva lotta money lol. If you have the energy to actually do that year 1, it's certainly a good way to stop being poor early.

Lava Eel somewhat better as it will give spicy eel. For smaller farms 5x5 fish ponds can be tricky to run on a scale.

Called this after your first video, but this still makes early game fishpond useful if you catch legend year 1 spring
How can you even do that? Don't you need level 10 fishing for legend to even appear?
This doesn't really apply to most people because only speedrunners will go for Legend year 1
