It's heartbreaking to see how selfishness overshadowed the needs of a child. Every child deserves love and security, something painfully missing here. It's a somber reminder of how precious yet fragile family bonds can be.
tbh, i think at some point op's mom started punishing herself by staying. there was no point to it otherwise if she was too sick to be cured. if she was that much of a golddigger and they hated each other so much, she'd have found someone else to leech off. not that it excuses her in any way, and what she did was incredibly shitty but perhaps she had regrets. still, even if she did, she should have left for op's sake if not her own
Love that op is on the up and up. For a family worried about her mom being a gold digger, there was a surprising lack of a paternity test being mentioned.
Because in some states when somebody is diagnosed with a terminal illness it is illegal for the spouse to divorce that person under any circumstances because that would make the person at the disease or illness a ward of the state.
The cynical corner of my brain is concerned that the grandparents are going to hold their continued financial support over OP's head if they make any life choices that they don't agree with.
Oh lordy I hear you too! Poor girl's already been through those much, too! I hope her soul heals and she is blessed with both happiness and TRUE love only ❤️❤️❤️
Probably, but in the short-term, at least her needs are being taken care of while she's transitioning into adulthood and starting to fend for herself. I hope she doesn't get too comfortable to not have a survival plan if they turn on her, though.
This story touched home .My dad used to cheat on my mom gaslight her, poke his nose on her family fights(for eg:if my mom and grandpa were having a fight he would have taken grandpas side and talking 💩 about her infront of him), talked 💩 w her, spoke swear words since i was 7,drank everytime he came home and came home once a week .He was more of a dad to my cousins
Seems like OP is just being punished just for the irresponsible actions of every adult around her. And if the dad really held that much of a grudge over his wife hitting on his brother for so long, then oh well. Sucks to be him. No one made him stay with her.
My best advice for anyone who like op is dealing with someone they cut off making alternate accounts to contact you when you don't want to be contacted is to simply tell them if they don't stop you'll be filling harassment charges against them and the next time they contact you trying to call your bluff go through with the harassment case as that type of behavior is nothing short of harassment
I would have definitely aired that guy's dirty laundry at his wedding "I was forced to come here just so everyone here thinks this is okay. His bride is half his age, and he was cheating on his wife for the last two years of her life. Why do any of you even like this thing?"
So many problems would've been avoided only if dad was honest and came clean about the pregnancy. But well, he is a pos with particular taste on gold diggers.
This story makes no sense. The people in this story have the depth of cartoon characters. People don’t act like this. The grandparents hated the mother (from one interaction), but love the granddaughter? This is what either a bad human writer, or an AI “writer,” thinks about how people act.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought this story made no sense. I know fact can be stranger than fiction, but there’s strange and then there’s “and then they all clapped in the end”.
Her reason not getting a divorce because she was little bit greedy she was hoping to get money from her in-laws inheritance she didn't know she was going to die before them cause her to stay married to him and pretty much let her child be raise in toxic environment instead of healther and decent environment cause her to die unhappily while let her child be miserable when she was alive. sorry this is long.
With a bit more context, it's definitely sounding like they were both pretty terrible. Mom likely stayed because dad probably constantly mentioned that if she left him, she was indeed the gold-digger his parents accused her of being & there was no way oop was his kid. Dad probably stayed to ensure neither she nor oop went looking for his family & exposed him. Honestly, Oop is the only one who got screwed they really shouldn't have accepted the grandparents' financial assistance. Because given how they operated with their own son, the same could apply to oop.
This story is hard to get through the first 2 minutes for me. My dad is a master manipulator, he grew up in an abusive world, raised by his grandpa, his older brother, and eventually his adoptive mom. He met my mom when they were in high school, hooked up with her when she was fresh out of a relationship, got her to drop college aspirations, and leached off my grandparents when they had money. All the while he apparently hated every second of being with my mom, however it didn’t stop him from having my older brothers and me. Growing up after he finally found some balls he left, started an early as hell midlife crisis when he was in his late 30s, started hooking up with an admittedly beautiful woman, started telling me that her kids were going to be my new siblings, and started talking like a thug. When my great grandma who had always seen the good in him died when I was in 6th grade, I made the mistake of calling and telling him she died. He immediately started demanding to be included in her funeral plans, and threw a massive meltdown tantrum when my mom and grandparents refused to let him come to her funeral. After that he started telling me on my weekend visits with him how much he hated my mom, called her fat, disgusting, called my grandpa a lowlife, tore into my older brothers, and even started calling me a parasite when I was legitimately becoming afraid of this guy. 14 years later and I don’t have a great relationship with him, honestly he’s gotten worse over the years but I still try to be there for him even when my brothers, and his wife, and her kids (different people) can’t stand him at times.
I know OP has already decided to ignore her dad, but if she ever gets tired of it I would write back, "Every time you email me, the less guilty I feel. Thank you."
I can’t believe her mother stayed with him, therefore; forcing her to remain with an abusive, vile, selfish person. OP should have been disgusted by her mother’s behavior & choices as well.
My dad was like this too. When I was 16 he married a 21 year old woman and she only cared about money. We stared a 3 year long affair and when i moved out i send him the sex tape as payback
Both parents were selfish in all this. The dad though is a real piece of work and abusive. All he cares about is money and frankly deserves all that he gets. He can cry and deal with the consequences somewhere else.
To be honest I think the father really screwed himself over. to be honest I would be more disappointed in him if I was his parent that he lied to me for 17 years and treated his daughter like trash then anything else. he definitely deserves losing the inheritance he's been wanting for so long. actions have consequences and now he has to deal with them. and the problem of people like him is they don't realize that a simple sincere apology could solve all of their problems because they only think of themselves. I mean it was pretty clear he was only thinking about himself when he threatened his own Child by taking away the college fund and just using it for himself. also that he really think it was a good idea to marry somebody younger than him a mere week after his previous wife's death? I mean no child will be able to move on so easily. his daughter may have exposed him but he was one who destroyed his own life by lying to everyone. it's only sad that the mother didn't have to face the consequences of our actions but at least she's out of the child's life. because at the end of the day every single human being deserves to be loved and protected by their parents. and karma will always come back and back you in your caboose when you least expected. I hope one day the father realizes what he has done wrong and realized it was too late to even begin apologizing.
This one is definitely AI. You're telling me two weeks after the mom's death OP is allowing previously unheard of relatives to call her a gold digger? JFC someone give these bots a book on humans or something.
It's not your fault it's your dad's fault because his wife just died and he just pretended like it didn't happen and his son was forced to Go to the wedding and that's not right and he should pay for his actions and go to hell for what he has done to him if you guys can't see that then you guys are delusional and he doesn't deserve anything.

I just think it's weird that they stayed together for so long and that it was never brought up. Plus, if he didn't care for OP or her mom, rather than just cut ties, he kept them around as his personal and emotional punching bags. That is a level of scum that I absolutely despise.
