32:01 So this means that Reimu and Marisa got their asses kicked while the gremlin goat was going EASY on them. Man, these two really aren't the go-to problem solvers, anymore.
4:06 reminder that between the two of them, Kanako's the nice one Also an interesting look as to how Yuuma operates in the ending there. Anyone she can't beat in a straight up battle, she'll try to strike a deal with them, and usually manages to walk away with a deal that's at least partially in her favour; because of this she's never actually lost a fight (hence "undefeated matriarch of the Goyoku Alliance)
from what I remember(think from omake/character profile) she tends to try to strike a deal before fighting. if Diplomacy doesn't work, she tries running. if running doesn't work, only then she fights... unless the situation calls for a fight and is too important, it seems.
This game made me appreciate Kanako as a character a LOT more...which is funny because she's easily the least interesting character to play as in this game IMO, at least as far as mechanics go. Your (lack of) strategy guides is a testament to how little variation there is in what you have to do to be successful from stage to stage, spell to spell. I'll admit it's fun to fling those onbashira around willy-nilly, though. Up next is my favorite character to use in this game (and one of my favorite character in the series as a whole)...and probably the most difficult to pilot, depending on who you ask. Can't wait to see how you make playing her look easy next week.
This game is actually what made me like and appreciate Kanako. I honestly didn't care for her when she appeared in MoF, but I love seeing how she acts like an amateur scientist in this game. Plus, without her, my favorite character Okuu wouldn't exist.
I liked her for the longest time but her acting like a legit Karen in Lotus Eaters turned me off for about a year. But then this game restored my faith in her completely. She didn't try to make money off the oil, she's actually the one character who's most outspoken against it. He didn't mention it in the ending summary, but she also tells Suwako that Toutetsu's oil-lust "reminded her painfully of the outside world."
Ahhh, Kanako. She’s easily my least favorite due to how reliant she is on her onbashira- leading to intense spam, and how utterly lackluster her water attack is- unable to break barriers, has pretty underwhelming damage, and kind of just feels like it’s there to keep her free movement absorb in check. Fun fact you should mention next episode! Earlier versions of 17.5 lacked tutorials for Kanako and onwards, meaning you had to learn on the GO in those first fights… which just so happens to be an utter pain in the butt for the last two characters (before the extra character…)
Yeesh.. you'd think after perfect possession joon and shion would learn, but they don't. Don't bathe the oil, it'll only make you two stink way, WAY worse than before
With probably the easiest character out of the way, time for one of the hardest, if not the hardest character to play as Time for Murasa Massive damage, but whoo boy, her mobility sucks Extremely noticeable for Yuuma's phase 2, and ESPECIALLY that last spell I had to look up a video to check if that s*** was even remotely possible with her, and it was It just requires some major jank
Ah, so even this version removed the grabby hands. Thought maybe it was just a Switch thing. If I had to guess they removed it for 2 reasons: -Performance. It's why I thought it was a Switch "exclusive", it's by far the busiest background with a fight that has one of the busiest spell cards. -Visual clarity. It is hard enough to see what's going on when there's blood, blood bullets and blood bubbles on a red background, more moving red bloody pieces. Just outright removing them in response to feedback makes sense to me.
33:57 i think the reason why the grabby hands from the blood pools were removed is because it probably gave off creepy vibes, like if the hell of blood pools was actually a person. But i don't know.
Mmmnngh.... I feel like, with how negative emotion seems to act with a mind of its own in Japanese myth... I feel like it looking like the Blood Pools were alive was intentional. They were brought to life by Toutetsu's avarice, and the hatred that continued to "pool" so badly that even the Oni refused to manage it.
@@youdonotcare true true. Nintendo is all about family friendly games. If a child saw those grabby hands appear from the blood pools, they're gonna be having nightmares for weeks. Months even.
Here we have Kanako! Probably the easiest character to play casually, and definitely the safest. The speedruns with her get a bit tougher, because you do have to use the whole 'blowing the Onabashira around' thing, and she can be lacking in DPS at times, causing certain phases to go on longer than you'd like. Not really much else to add, though. Even in the speedrun, the strategies with Kanako tend to be very similar across the game, just a bit more complex than they are for casual play. Even boat isn't too awful for her, lol. First look at Yuuma's second phase, but again, Kanako kinda ignores most of it. Her second spell card in this phase is kinda just a big slugfest for almost everyone. There's so much stuff going on, it's hard to tell when it's safe to try and regain stamina or such, and when it's not. Next time, the speedrun queen herself, Murasa! Absolutely brutal to play for people who haven't spent way too much time with the game, but dear lord she plows through the game like nobody's business for people who have.
Kanako doesn't even take a braincell to play, it's ridiculous. I will still make the argument that you still need to dodge some things here and there on Hard, but she's still just as broken there. The only bad thing about her is her spell, which is atrocious. Ugh. Remember when I said in my first video that, just like in Kirby, it's mostly pattern learning, but there's at least one boss or pattern that's just entirely random? Yeah, Yuuma's 2nd spell in the Blood Pools sucks. And it's not because of the bullets themselves, but rather the platforms being able to go in awkward spots and making your life more difficult, considering you can't touch the floor. I disagree about her 3rd spell being the hardest in the game, because it's entirely routable. On this note, I also forgot another thing about the differences between Normal and Hard. On some spells, the spell circle will be red for less time on Hard. Yuuma's 2nd blood spell being a perfect example of this. Anyway. Chicken :)
Difficulty of Usage: 2 Stars - um, really? Seems more like half a star to me. Only noticed last night too, that Yuuma has a spork, a bloody spork!! ZUN and his crazy character designs. (^w^;)
Kanako should've sold some oil. then she would've been a snake oil salesman... also I like the fact that Jo'on and Shion's theme in the game sounds rather... Arabic? I think it's kinda fitting.
Where are the grabby hands? Those were the best part of the final boss, it gave the "cursed hell" theme to the, now, rather generic "red flaming hell". Can't really tell the difference between the Hell of Blazing Fires and the Hell of Blood Pools like this. 0/10, won't spend my eternity there.
Not really much to say about Kanako. Her basic attack is awful and her spellcard is mediocre. But then she has an extremely overpowered pillar throwing attack that completely invalidates the entire game. And if that wasn't enough unlike other characters her invincibility move is not a dash that needs to be timed but instead you just hold down a button to fly. Not really sure what the thought process behind her was ^^' You know in hindsight, making Kanako the first character to fight both Yorigamis and Yuuma's second phase might not have been the best idea on the developer's part... It really makes both fights kind of anticlimactic. Not to mention since you can play Kanako right after Reimu, that technically applies to the rest of the characters too. I'm guessing the reason Kanako's scenario is almost the same as Marisa's is because Marisa's is non canon? Kind of a weird way to handle it but oh well.
By playing as Kanako in this game, you get to experience what is like playing a literal god, both literally and figuratively. Very fitting imo.
Contrast to Suwako in Hisoutensoku
Which... just
No

Did she even lose the fight though? I thought yuuma ended up beating everyone she fought besides flan
from what I remember(think from omake/character profile) she tends to try to strike a deal before fighting. if Diplomacy doesn't work, she tries running. if running doesn't work, only then she fights... unless the situation calls for a fight and is too important, it seems.
The ironic part? Kanako probably only uses the pillars because she finds it beneath her to use physical force.
hehe, 'beneath'
Interesting how Kanako's whirlwinds actually interact with the physics and suck in the water (and "water"). It's a nice touch.
So simple, even the editor can play!
Don't
29:27 Besides, this is less "beat up the goat" and more "try to beat up the goat and lose badly instead", like AoCF.
Kanako "Press z + down to win" Yasaka.

Not at this point in the story. It gets so much worse during Flandere's route, and that's when it shows up in the background.
