James, you are genius! I was just trying to figure a way to help my momma wean her babies but is still producing gobs of milk! What a genius idea to use a syringe! And I have had personal experience with losing a baby to aspiration pneumonia bc I was time feeding and separating mum! Mum was miserable and her milk was overflowing and puppies were overly hungry! This litter, I bought your heating system and installed pig rails and left mum with her babies! She was so happy, calm and a wonderful mum! Her babies never had another instance of milk nose! I'm going through this problem currently . my pups are 3 days old. they have short muzzles so I stand them up straight and don't let them feed side ways and also make sure mom's skin doesn't smother there noses . I set a stopwatch and watch them feed and look at feel there bellies for a stopping point. it seems to help so far .
This was SO informative and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome information. We ended up with a stray dog that had 10 puppies!! One puppy had the crackling sound. We were able to help her!
Very good advice James! Have dealt with this situation and saved one of my puppies by tube feeding and zythromax after clavamox failed to treat the aspiration pneumonia!
My girl is due her first litter in two days and this is my first time breeding. We're expecting definite 7 seen on Xray, very likely 8. Got the timing right with the progesterone testing. I did not know much about milk aspiration until watching your video. I'll try to get the tools that I don't have from my friend who is a vet tomorrow. Your video may have saved her pups. Thanks so much
Mine just had 8 and the other 12! Lost one pup from each litter (one massive hernia the other mom had puppies a week early and I discovered them the next morning. She did great but I suspect the littlest pup didn't get a chance to nurse soon enough and went downhill within 6 hrs despite incubatoring and nursing on mom and bottle. Down to 18 and its been a week both moms are feeding great, even mom with 11 pups 😄. So no fear. But a bottle and formula on hand is always a good idea!
Thank you so much for all your educational videos. I love watching you guys! I have my first litters coming soon and I’m constantly watching your videos and learning! God bless you all!
Another good tip I dont hear people talk about much is to use a 50 watt infrared heat lamp about 2 ft over the pups. My temp gun says it is 88 degrees. It keeps their environment nice and dry and helps with drying out fluids on the lungs. I lost all 5 of my pups in two weeks on my last litter due to pneumonia 6 months ago. But my new litter is doing awesome.
Unfortunately some of the videos that I have seen regarding aspiration is that many don’t give a good prognosis. One of my puppies is currently on antibiotics and other videos basically say your dog is going to die.😧 I wish there were more videos on how the process of getting them better.
My 3 newborn poms that were born lastnight has 1 that sounds aspirated and is making a cracking/bubbling sound. I want to catch it quick but I'm not sire the suction thing will work but I'll try. Prob best to just go to vet and let the see what they think.
Quick question about the crate for your whelping box kit. Do you think a 36 inch crate would be large enough, or should I get a 42 inch? I already have a 36 and would have to buy a 42 is why I ask. Thanks in advance!
Im so sorry but Im having hard time getting the meds can anyone comment the antibiotics needed if they developed aspiration pneumonia, and is it possible to use these meds on a newborn Puppy? Like a week old? Any help would be much appreciated, we tried to go to vet but they can't do nothing the say they're too small
I'm so happy iv seen this today, iv 4 pug puppys and mum has mastitis also have had pup with milk coming from nose, I no flat nose pups are worse for this but have been in such a panic over it. I'm going to try this on mum to see if I can get some of milk out teet, she is on pain meds and antibiotics so hopefully I can help her. My dogs are my life, iv got dad to but not sure when I should have him near pups so have them separated at the moment.
How you doing I have a puppy that had aspiration at 8 weeks old I still have him and he is 5 months old now and he still has episodes some times when he drinks water to fast he starts acting like he is gasping for hair what could be wrong
I have tried the "breast pump" but find that it is far more effective and comfortable for mom to just hand express each teat into a cup. I then draw the milk into 3ml syringes and freeze them for future use... Liquid Gold! In fact, any time I have a mom over producing I take this opportunity to bolster up my storage of frozen breast milk. It has never gone to waste. I also purchased a used oxygen concentrator from local online classified ad and place any pup that has crackles in lungs, high respiratory rate (over 40 breaths per minute) or increased work of breathing' into James' incubator care unit and run oxygen tube into it. I attached a bubble bottle to concentrator to humidify the air. If puppy is severe I place a clear bowl over puppy in the unit and place the tubing under the bowl to create a more concentrated oxygen chamber. Purchasing these items are far less expensive than 1 puppy ER visit and less that the price of one pup. I bought both items a year before I ever needed to use them and was grateful to have on hand in the critical moments.

@@claudianoemizzz3536 Yes! I did continue to use my mouth and they are all healthy 6 month old puppies now! I watched every single feeding and the moment I saw milk aspiration, I would remove them from the mom and suck the milk with my mouth immediately and then lay them on their tummies and pat them. Give them a short break before letting them feed again. As they got older, they definitely aspirated less. I think at three weeks, I didn't have to do that anymore. My pup is 3 days old. It has cracking sound and when I use the aspirator it's turning to mucus thicker then the milk and even drying up it covered one nostril I had to peel it off.
Now I'm dealing with a dry mouth. Tough I sticking to the top and making a sou d when she gets it down. We began tube feeding using albuetrol w saline and silver collidal
This helped me hopefully im doing right we had a dog due to our lack of being prepared for her to have her puppys reject her litter in the beginning and a super lengthy labor, we are having to bottle feed the 8 pups they where not even able to get beginning milk so im stressed out trying to keep everything clean as can be so afraid if sick puppy. Been feeding them every 3 to 4 hours 2 hours for the first 3 days they are 6 days old now, every time we feed them they get ahead of themselves from time to time it dosn't happen every single time we feed but they end up eating to fast and get milk down the wrong tube, we immediately stop feeding hold it slighty downwards and rock it slighty and pat its back with a finger. So far i dont see any runny noses or labored breathing trying to keep milk warm all throughout feeding they have strong suckers and are gaining weight, dont have a scale capable of weighing that low but they are about twice the size they where when first born.....seems to be going good but man oh man am i scared and stressed about sickness and aspiration.
The dog rejected the baby’s 4 died so I took her away I think she has the parasite that makes the poop smell metallic Coccidia she has diarrhea and Now she sounds crackly from bottle feeding she is going to the vet in the morning I’m trying my best here IDK anymore if she will make it. She is 8 days old but she was a premie and her Mother is way too young at 10 months her owners let her get pregnant by mistake I will make sure she gets amoxicillin and a smear test to check for coccidia I’m almost 100% positive she has it I asked the owners if the 3 big dogs have bloody poop and he actually said “that’s not normal” Im dealing with people who are not the brightest here and I feel like they essentially let the other puppies die so Im glad I took her I just don’t like it one bit her being away from her Mother now all there dogs probably have to be treated and Im worried about my dog My Yorkie I have been keeping him far away from the baby especially the poop. He hates her anyways he won’t even look at her and he is so jealous he has been hiding under the couch crying upset that Im giving somthing else attention. Should I have my Dog treated Just in case?

So far i dont see any runny noses or labored breathing trying to keep milk warm all throughout feeding they have strong suckers and are gaining weight, dont have a scale capable of weighing that low but they are about twice the size they where when first born.....seems to be going good but man oh man am i scared and stressed about sickness and aspiration.
How are the pups now?
Any updates with pupps
