As this shows here, it has transformed into a habitable town. Let’s hope tourists don’t destroy this but the nature and the time take their tolls ❤
Truth to be told, Socotra is not for Yemen, its kind of disputed between Somalia and Yemen and since the two countries share almost everything such as people, culture, religion, trade and so on, they decided not to kill or lose their brotherhood over it and opted to negotiate but wait for suitable time since Somalia was in conflict with Ethiopia and Kenya over boundaries and Yemen was divided and struggling to re-unit. but time never came because of the civil wars and other hardships.
ur wrong socatra has been part of yemen for thousands of year before somalia even existed socatra people dont speak somali they speak sogatry language which is a derivative of ancient yemen hemiary language which is still spoken in parts of main land yemen so socatra has no history or linguistic nor cultural ties with somalia

@@AlexanderMason1 Thank you Alexander. The island of Socotra is part of Yemen and so Yemen for many decades ensured not to modernize the island and only add basic necessities so as to prevent damage to the flora and fauna of the island. In Yemen, we are very sad that our island is being illegally occupied by these bedouins with oil money.
@Justin Y. really? since all residents are Yemenis, how does it belong to Somalia? Either or, UAE had no rights to be there..it belongs to the neighboring countries
UNSTOPPABLE-AR You can't have it both ways. It has not been corrupted...it is NOW thriving and the people are benefiting. There is only corruption when the people do not benefit. I was on Socotra in 1983. At that time (from 1977 to 1987), I periodically, on visits, worked in a joint Soviet-Yemeni-Swedish company that was engaged in the extraction and export of fish products from the PDRY. So, we sent shrimp and lobster to Europe: Italy, Spain, Sweden, etc.; and cuttlefish to Singapore and Japan. Fish, as by-catch, we handed over in Aden to the domestic market. I got to Socotra as an English speaker. I had to accompany our guy to the Soviet doctor who worked on the island, who received a minor injury at work at sea.. There I remember meeting a shepherd: he was herding goats on the coast. His goats actually ate wooden planks thrown out of the ocean. And they were knee-high to me. I have never seen such small goats eating wooden boxes before. I didn't even know they existed. But I liked the Arab: he was so kind to me that he was ready to give me his only wealth, a tin can thrown ashore by the sea, from which he drank green tea. The tea was without sugar, which is not worth talking about. Did he live right on the shore in a hut made of the same planks that were thrown out of the ocean by a wave. I see that life on the island has not changed much in forty years.

Constructive criticism - you open this video with a statement that it's one of the most beautiful islands in the world. The initial few seconds are remarkably unremarkable, and then you cut to some scenes that ARE remarkable. Start with the remarkable scenes. The canyon, the insane looking Joshua tree look alikes...
28:10 "The war is far away and that is what matters most" - as the camera captures an oil tanker off in the distant shore. EXCELLENT visuals captured there! Lovely island and people, I do hope this gentleman is right.
UAE is involved in every conflict and in every country's affairs. UAE has got so much money and small population and they don't have inter problem to focus. So what they do they spend their money and make another people's land like a playground to keep themselves busy. That is what they doing in Socotra.

The UAE are exploiting the tragedy of Yemen 🇾🇪. They are insincere in their attentions.Oil and money 💰 has made Yemen’s neighbours arrogant. It is a shameful disgrace that Yemen is in this situation in a location and area of immense natural wealth. The Gulf countries with the immense wealth could have sincerely helped financially and economically to make Yemen stable. They refused to allow Yemen to become a gulf council member when you consider that Yemen is located in one of the most important and strategic areas on earth 🌍.

Yemred I understand what you are saying but while they may be insincere in their intentions, it has to start somewhere! the UAE will lift Socotra out of poverty. Somalia is already a country split into multiple sides like Yemen, but unlike the STC in Yemen they do not have rivh allies to invest in the country and its debatable over what part of Somalia would claim it

The UAE is really taking over, sadly. They're not paying for things out of kindness.
UAE has no place here they bomb in Yemen with out merci as a Somali that is not acceptable
Why Somalia take it since Yemen is friends with Somalia they won’t mind it’s better under Somalia than uae and Israel
@@daviroza4700 yes but somalia is friendly with yemen if they take it they hurt the yemeni people hearts. Many yemeni refugees in mogadishu (somalia)
Nothing is free .
Instead of going to war with Ethiopia siad barre should taken this island but when Somalia collapsed 1990 socotra became part of Yemen 🇾🇪 so sad
ur wrong
socatra has been part of yemen for thousands of year before somalia even existed
socatra people dont speak somali they speak sogatry language which is a derivative of ancient yemen hemiary language which is still spoken in parts of main land yemen
so socatra has no history or linguistic nor cultural ties with somalia

@@AlexanderMason1 Thank you Alexander. The island of Socotra is part of Yemen and so Yemen for many decades ensured not to modernize the island and only add basic necessities so as to prevent damage to the flora and fauna of the island.

Yemred, so true man.
For years since 1967 after the British left Aden, Socotra went down hill due to lack of investment from the South Yemeni government. Then, the unification of the two Yemens (North and South) came about in 1990 and unfortunately the decline of Socotra Island continued downwards.
That's what happens when the people of the Island realise their own government don't seem to care, so naturally they will be inclined to support foreign countries like Saudi and UAE who come to the Island uninvited and shower the poor locals with money. Perfectly normal human response.
What a crying Shame.
Feel bad Yemen is still suffering. Hello from Northern Maine, America.
Yemred I understand what you are saying but while they may be insincere in their intentions, it has to start somewhere! For this particular island, boats, gasoline, good healthcare and electricity are necessities that will allow the people to thrive and survive. Hopefully, the activists will keep an eye on those intentions. It is all we can hope for.
hate it to break for you but you can only join the GCC if you are an riparian state to the arab/persian gulf, which is Yemen NOT. So Yemen cant join them.
Socotra Island belongs to Somalia and cannot be claimed by UAE. It had been at the centre of territorial dispute between Somalia and Yemen for many years.
War beenta daaya. Oo Allah ka cabsada.
the UAE will lift Socotra out of poverty. Somalia is already a country split into multiple sides like Yemen, but unlike the STC in Yemen they do not have rivh allies to invest in the country and its debatable over what part of Somalia would claim it
