    Amazing video. I flew from Florida (commercial) into Boise May years ago. Rented a car headed to Mcall where I chartered a small plane to drop me off deep in the backcountry of Frank Church 10 day Elk/blackbear hunt all by myself. Didn’t realize how cold it got. My equipment was not warm enough, left after two days. Looking to get my sport pilot certification and buy a sport plane that can land in the backcountry and take my son out there one day. Absolutely beautiful

      It's a GoPro Max360 camera on a 3ft long boom out the back of the tail wheel mount. There are two lenses one on each side of the camera which the technology stitches together and the camera's built in technology hides the boom from view.

    • @MrTennis88
      @MrTennis88 Год назад

      @@rickhiebert7352 Thank you! I'm a bit surprised I'm the only one who asked! Its an amazing effect. I have seen a few other images from other angles as well with the same effect, it appears as though you are being filmed from outside the plane. I guess the same answer, go pro stitches together such that the boom disappears and you are left with this fantastic illusion.
      Many years (er, decades) ago I got a glider solo certification, but did not continue, life happened. Watching these back country bush pilot videos in wild places fills me with envy, what a life! I don't guess my wife would go in for a drastic life shift at our age so I guess I can only enjoy the videos and envy you guys. Maybe in a next lifetime I'll remember I wanted to have this life.

    • @rickhiebert7352
      @rickhiebert7352  2 месяца назад +1

      We use GoPro Max360 cameras on a 3ft long boom for those away from the plane look. One is out the back from the tail wheel mount and the other out front from where the strut meets the wing. These cameras have two lenses one on each side of the camera which the technology stitches together and the camera's built in technology hides the boom from view. You can choose the angle, zoom in or out, or rotate the view during post using GoPro's editing software. Pretty cool technology but it still has improvements to make.

    Nicely done! I’ve been fortunate enough to fly into and camp at a number of the places you visited; only 6 months to go again!

    Thanks for sharing your trip quite the adventure. I’m surprised you didn’t make it to the flying B. I haven’t done that type of flying in a number of years. Love the paint scheme on your cub.

    Good job Rick and Curtis!
    I love his lifestyle and flying those wonderful places.
    Very good story and the warmth with which they make all their videos!!
    I am from Argentina and I would like similar places to fly in these latitudes...
    I hope they try lol
    A big hug and keep flying

      I should have added that Curtis and I were in Utah a few years back and there's a video on my channel featuring it too, although that was one of my first videos. That adventure was shorter than we'd hoped for and do need to return.

    Curtis and Rick, your filming and flying in this outback terrain has reached a new level. Do all tailwheels spin in flight? That aft camera is a new addition! Fantastic!

    Fantastic video..how did the bearhawk patrol perform? What engine are you running? Christmas greetings from Iceland

      The Patrol gave us a good blend between speed and load capacity cross country with back country and high altitude slow speed handling. I have a 360 Lycoming clone (ECI) with 185 hp and a constant speed MT prop.

    Love the content! I’m a retired bush pilot from Alaska but never flown in Idaho I think that this video has inspired me. I’m also Canadian to boot eh. Don’t know if your a professional videographer but thanks for the amazing and informative information.

      Thanks very much and glad you enjoyed our trip and perhaps even inspired you to visit that beautiful state. I may be a pro photographer but only an amateur videographer. Retired Alaskan bush pilot? This is interesting as Alaska is our next adventure, hoping to arrive middle of June? Perhaps you've got some tips?

    Outstanding! If you return to Idaho, I recommend Chamberlain (heart of the Frank Church Wilderness, trails in all directions), Bruce Meadows (views of Bear Valley meadows and the Sawtooths), Flying B (historic Salmon Middle Fork ranch), and Mckay Bar (ranch at Salmon/S Fk confluence). BTW, when I flew out of Lower Loon as a passenger some years ago, I think one source described it as "for emergency use under ideal conditions only"! There's a nice hot spring a short hike up Loon Creek there also.

    Very nice video! Do you have ADSB for being able to fly down there?

    • @rickhiebert7352
      @rickhiebert7352  Год назад

      Yes, aircraft has ADSB in and out that dramatically improves safety with traffic and weather info, but not legally required in the uncontrolled airspace we travelled through on this trip.
