Awesome brother! That attitude the wolverine has is crazy cool! As always you put the smack down on em! I learn a ton every video! Thanks for taking us along! God bless yall!
I know right that wolverine wasn’t going to be bullied. I was hoping that I added enough tips in this video. I’m just about to head out on the line today, checking a day early, because of the game tomorrow. Thanks for watching bro. God bless you and yours as well!
Hello young man. I am an older Alaskan Trapper who spent over twenty years living in Bettles/Evansville at the edge of the Brooks Range. I have been to Venetie a few years ago and know that you have some beautiful country there. I bumped into your channel and appreciated your sharing your trapping culture. God bless you and keep you safe as you travel through the beauty He has made. Dave S
Wow! Small world, welcome to the channel. So cool I’ve never been to Bettles. What did you trap over there? God bless you as well. His creation is definitely beautiful. Take care
Dang your right that sucker was huge very cool it's wild to see the size difference between male n female kinda like with bears I've seen huge boars but not really huge sows great video thanks and keep it up
Yeah. I think males live longer that’s another reason they grow bigger. A few old males I’ve caught had scars all over their legs and bellies. So I’m guessing they have just lived through more
Heck yeah brother that’s an awesome check! I would love to be cruising a line like that! I’m going to make it to AK one day!
Yeah one awesome day out there. It’s great out there. Never know what the future holds maybe you’ll make it up here one day. We’ll see what happens and go from there. Your definitely welcome in my country bro👍
Love seeing your efforts come to fruition!! Don't let up, stay on them.
Les from Eastern Oregon.
Thank you sir! Will do 🫡. Thanks for watching
You do an awesome job of narrating your trip with explanations of why you do things the way you do!!!
Thanks! I worry a bit if I talk to much. I have been told that I can take a bit to much. Lol
Minnesota Rancher. Totally agree with Scott. Your voice has a pleasant quality, makes for easy listening. You obviously know your stuff. Great work.
Agree 100%. I’m learning more from listening to you explaining. Commentary is fantastic and you definitely don’t talk too much. Lots of your videos are in the dark so it’s hard to see sometimes so when you explain it’s awesome!
@@deadpinecollective thanks. I just got back from checking traps and most of the GoPro footage is in the daylight this time. Not as much fur but still great check
Glad you're gaining some traction bud. I look forward to seeing what you've got going on. That's a good idea dragging a Caribou leg
Thank you sir. I’m about to go check traps and film the next video. Yeah A leg works great but most of the time I’m using a 1/4 piece of a caribou skin. Have a good one👍
Great job on that video. I love your enthusiasm. Thanks.
Thanks! Gotta love it out here. Have a good one
I thought it was a good idea when I trolled for wolves along my trail, I think more back country trappers could benefit from that practice to attract critters.
Yeah that along with a lot of bait tossed out along the line has done me well. Thanks for watching
I guess i was thrown off by the prelude and the daylight , lol , i started wondering why you were trapping in the dark , lol , because it is dark in the prime trapping months .
Keep up with the dream , when young folks get a shout out you know you're doing it right ....
Haha yeah I’m usually busy in the mornings and by the time I make it home it has been dark for 5-6 hours. Super bright headlamp helps out a bunch. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a good one
good channel u got going! i like that you don’t swear at all kids can watch with me! keep making more
Thanks! Yeah no reason for me to cuss out there, and I want everybody to be able to watch. Today I filmed another Trapline check and caught a couple smaller fur bearers. Thanks for watching
If you don’t mind me asking, what would a haul like that on average earn you? I assume Wolverine are your big buck furs!
The price wildly varies. The market I sell to is created by the furbuyer so it’s what he needs is what pays the best. But wolverine are the most stable at between 200-400$ a piece. Wolves can be anywhere 0-500$ depending on color and length. Thanks for asking
Congrats on the FUR!! Enjoy the videos!! Stay safe!
Thanks! Made another catch today. Will do
Congratulations on a great catch. You have such a great attitude toward your trapping , I really enjoy that.
When you throw out your bait , is it in an area where your sets are located ? I live in Montana , and trap some Wolf and Coyote.
Thanks gotta have a good attitude, makes life much more enjoyable. Some of the bait is thrown into set locations but most is thrown into areas with no traps. I do that so animals get used to eating the bait with no traps around so when they walk up to a real set they don’t think anything about it. Cool! I worked with a bunch of Missoula smoke jumpers a few years ago. Montana sure sounded nice. Thanks for watching have a good one
love your videos! I started trapping wolves here in Southeast Alaska 4 years ago. Learning a little more every year. Would love to start a youtube Channel. 2 the first year, 3 the 2nd, 6 last year and 4 so far this year. Hoping for atleast 8!
Thanks. Wow! That’s a good number of wolves, good job. Oh yeah start filming and uploading. I did that for almost a year before it started to take off. I hope you get 10+. have a good one
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 picked up #5 on Saturday
@@NickYliniemi awesome! Yeah you need to start filming your Trapline. Even if it’s on a iPhone. Keep up the hard work
..Another awesome day on the line. How come you don't like to use fish as bait in some areas? I would have thought that fish would be the best where ever you trap. ..
Yeah great day out there. I only use fish near the river anywhere else it’s like they know that it should not be there. Same way with duck meat sometimes animals won’t go near it. Very smart animals
On ur woof snares if you put just a bit of a kink in cable with loop opening around 18 inches. It will keep snares from closing when wind or a lynk bumps them. Right in front of the lock. Old guy's trick that can save missing the vermin. Woofs are big and generally really moveun. Dont keep snares from closeun just keeps them ready 4 action
I remember doing that when I first started wolf trapping so I could have a perfect circle on my snares. But yeah I got a couple spots where lynx are always bumping into my snares and I have to pick up or move I’ll do that. I screenshot this tip to add to the Ken Tips album
I just stumbled across your channel. Great job with the editing and you have some awesome catches. I subscribed to your channel and have got some catching up to do. Later and all the best.
Awesome welcome to the channel! Trapping is still a couple months away but I’ve put out a couple caribou hunts and a moose hunt to come. Have a good one👍
Fantastic episode! Really enjoy your enthusiasm and appreciate your respect for the animals you catch. What is your favorite animal to trap?
Hello, I'm looking to purchase a wolverine to have a full mount done. Could I possibly get one from you?
So how much did that bad ass Wolverine weigh? I love your channel and the way you talk to us with your kind voice. We need more people like you in this world!!
Ah man my scale was acting up. But I’ll make sure to weigh it before I skin it. Thanks for the encouragement! Gotta be strong but kind. Thanks for watching!
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Can u eat wolverine meat?
@@chairlesnicol672 I have not, but they will eat carrion so I don’t know anybody that will eat it. During times of starvation predators are eaten. Lord willing we won’t have to see that in our lifetime
Love watching your videos. I live in Pennsylvania, and it's been a lifelong dream of mine to get a wolverine. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in your shoes, and have the ability to run a trapline in such a beautiful place that God has created. Be safe, and God Bless
I learned this is the best trapping video on you tube
Thank you sir! It’s much appreciated. Have a good one
Hi I live in Northern Ontario and really enjoy your videos. I would like to also start trapping and because of your videos I've started looking into getting a line. thanks
Very fun video. Action packed. Easy to follow. Very enjoyable. Do you have contact info, like an email?
Thanks I’m glad you liked it. I’ll hit you up later with an email. I’m headed out on my Trapline right now.
Thanks buddy. New to your channel. Enjoyed.
I enjoy watching this young man and his trapping adventures. He has great positive energy. I wish him continued success in his trapping activities. It is good to see him living a productive life and following the ways of his ancestors, he should be proud of himself.
I know many young AK native men that have no outdoor skills and spend their time with alcohol, drugs and merely playing video games and watching movies endlessly.
Thank you sir. My dad taught me to live a life outdoors, and I’m teaching my kid the same. It’s true how many young people have fallen away from our culture. But I’ll fight to keep this way of life alive for as long as I’m around. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a good one
Excellent, good on your Father and you both. You are a Gwichen Nation person or Athabascan Person of sorts. I presume you live near the Yukon. I have traveled on the Yukon from Whitehorse YT to Russian Mission as well as on the Kuskokwim River. These lands are vast, rugged and brutal, yet beautiful, filled with game and great adventure. God bless you and keep you safe young Man.
@@johndemara529 thanks. I’m a mix of a few different bands of Gwich’in. I live north of the highest point of the Yukon on the Chandalar River in Venetie Alaska. We’re about 60 miles north of the Arctic circle on the northern edge of the Yukon flats. Yeah beautiful country up here we sure love it. God bless you as well and will do.
WOW!! Now that's a dream check for sure! Your vids are top notch whether your sleigh is full or not. Congrats!
Thanks! I appreciate the support
Great job!!! Love the drag technique!! What was the weight on the wolverines?? It’s beautiful up there!!!! I still don’t know how you guys don’t get freaking lost at night!!! Lol. I guess you just know the trail systems..
Thanks! Yeah draggin has definitely helped. On the mountains while it’s snowing is the hard one.. powerful headlight help alot
Hello great catch you got. That's money in ya pocket. 👍
Good night on the line for you my man. What did the wolverine end up weighing. Make sure u tell us at the beginning of your next video. Ty for ur hard work putting the video together so we can come along on the ride with you.
Thanks. Yeah my scale didn’t want to cooperate. I think I can get ahold of a bagage scale and I’ll make sure to add it to the next video. I filmed my next trap check today and I have the first part of my fall moose hunt video almost ready to upload. Thanks for watching👍
Love your channel, because you have strength of character that I am not used to seeing on RUclips. Blessings.
Just found your channel. Love it and your positive attitude. I wanna come up and run the line with just to see the land.
Keep it up.
Awesome, welcome to the channel. Gotta have a positive attitude in such an angry world. Oh man it’s a lot of fun. Especially if you like cold weather. Have a good one👍. I just subbed your channel and will be checking it out
Been enjoying your trap line. All quiet again on my line, wolves been gone now 12 days which takes some of the fun out of it but they will be back. I have some friends up in Ambler, AK. We got to share some adventures up there. Wish we had wolverines to go after down here. They got some awesome fur. Take care out there.
Ah man it’s hard waiting for wolves especially because you know they’ll come back just not when they will. Just gotta have the steel out there waiting. Ambler that’s cool, yeah an adventure sounds great. Yeah I live in a blessed place with some tough critters. Have a good one dude
Awesome stuff brother, just found your channel and subbed 👍👍, I’m in central Alberta and I don’t have marten or wolverine around, we get wolves every once in awhile so I love watching other guys trapping them! Good luck this season
Hi Frank! Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard. Trapping will start in December so I hope you enjoy the last 2 years of trapping on my channel. Thanks and have a great day!
Nice ! How long is your line and how often do you run it ! Thanks !
About 25 miles. Once or twice a week. This it the shortest line I’ve run in 5 years. But I’ve gone after wolves a lot harder and it’s been paying off so far
good job, love your vidios keep them coming , hi from new hampshire.
Thanks! Welcome to the channel. A lot more videos to come
Nice, enjoy watching your videos. Cool that you can use handgun over there, must be nice and light for carrying around with you.
Thanks glad to hear about the video. Yeah I’ve found that a 22lr out of a rifle does a bit more damage to the fur so I go with the handgun
@enigmaticgwichin1630 true, 17hmr polymer tip is good from a distance too only 1 bullet hole no exit hole as long as you're not too close
@@andrewandersen2013 I’ve kept an eye out of a 17hmr for a while. I saw a revolver in 17hmr it looked pretty good
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 yes be worth it, easier on fur than 22. Killed couple wolves with them too. Take care, good luck with your season
Love how you do your wolverine sets. Learning lots watching you.
Glad you like the sets. I’ve found these spruce boughs cubbies get almost no refusals. I’ve tried all types of 330 sets using buckets, building a small cabin like box. But the set shown hasn’t had a refusal in 3 seasons. I think it’s because there is almost no visible human components. Thanks for watching👍
That is one heck of a check!! That wolverine has some shoulders on him.
Oh yeah. I real brawler. I bet there was not much that would bother him out in the woods. Definitely one of the best checks ever for me. Gunna be hard to beat
Moon Shadow, great song by Cat Stevens. Have you thought about putting pans on a few of your coni bear traps that you have set for martins? They can sometimes make a big difference. Less chance of something slipping between the triggers. Keep the videos coming, I'm having a great time watching.
Yeah I think I’ll order some of those pans and try it out. But the conibears in the video are a little to big for marten. But next time out I’ll take the smaller conibears
Really good video. You could put a plyboard box cubby or make one out of logs where they're stealing out the back.
Thanks. I caught 2 marten today that were stealing from me. I used to use other sets but I would get refusals quite often till I changed them to the setup in the video now. I’ve heard of a few people south of me have good luck with sets made of logs or poles. Thanks for the input👍
Great catch on a beautiful moonlit night, I have never seen trolling for wolves 😂 dragging meat behind.
Haha never thought about it as trolling but I guess that’s exactly what I’m doing. Yeah that moonlight was amazing. Thanks for watching👍
REALLY enjoy your trapping videos!
Cool I’m glad they have been turning out so well! I just filmed another trap check👍
Hearing USA is contemplating placing wolverine on endangered list ! Please refrain from posting this as I really enjoy these videos BUT the antes are hard at work after you boys unfortunately! A concerned Canadian trapper !
Yeah, thanks for looking out. The wolverine is on the endangered species list for the lower 48 as of now. We are ok in Alaska but the anti trappers are going to use this to shut down all trapping in the lower 48 so they can “save the wolverine”. Wolverine just don’t like to be around people and that is the #1 reason there are so few down there.
I just pray that they do their Research and see that fur is a sustainable resource.
Thanks again and good bless
thanks for sharing another great day on your line
Oh yeah no problem. One of the best Trapline checks for sure. Just about beats 7-8 lynx in one run. Have a good one
Really enjoyed your video. Great plan to catch that wolverine. Very clever. God bless.
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah gotta get smart sometimes they are sneaky. God bless you as well👍
Great video good trappings.😊
Thanks, it was a great day!
Another great video. The only thing better than catching the first wolverine, is catching the second and even bigger. You couldn’t draw up a better catch than the first one. Lights out! Love your videos!!
Thanks! That was one crazy good Trapline check definitely one of the best checks. Yeah that first wolverine didn’t even extend its rear legs it died so quick. Thanks for commenting have a good one👍
great video, great catches! What a night! That wolverine is one of the biggest I've ever seen taken and the first wolverine, talk about taking an instant nap! Keep up the good work...we gotta get you to 2K subscribers
Yeah one awesome check! Glad I got it on video to share. Thanks for the support! It’s much appreciated. A lot more videos to come. My wife just finished editing the first part of my moose hunt from this fall. Great footage but I wasn’t practiced up on the commentary side. Hopefully drop the video in a couple days
Like you videos bro. Lot of information. I'm from way down river. Im going to put out a trap line this year hoping to get some action too. I plan on making some videos also.
Awesome! Get ahold of any traps or snares you can find and put them out. Getting them out there is a big part of trapping, then figure out how to catch them. Thanks for watching, if you have any questions let me know. I’ll be doing a lot more instructional videos this coming season.
Thanks for watching and good luck
@enigmaticgwichin1630 who do you get the sled from? That's one thing I'm missing I need to get one with higher walls or longer one. I have a wood sled thinking about getting a big otter
@@JesseJo907 this sled is from northern sled works it’s in Fairbanks or north pole. I’ve had a couple of those otter sleds but this sled is at a whole different level of quality. The UHMW plastic is almost unbreakable, they cost at least a thousand dollars but will outlast 3-4 otter sleds
Another great video!
Thanks I got another filmed today. Have a good one👍
Congratulations what a gorgeous night with the moon up making shadows and of course two Wolverine and the wolf. God is good to you. Stay safe. 🇨🇦✌️

Thanks for watching. Oh yeah sleep hard the nights after being out there. Have a good one
New subscriber here,do you have any videos of putting up the fur?
Would like to see how you skin out the feet and the like
Hi thanks for subscribing. I don’t have much, I’ve been a bit worried to put to much of that out there. RUclips doesn’t like blood. So this upcoming season I’ll start another channel where I can post skinning and butchering. Sorry about that, I have had a lot of questions asked about the skinning process so I’ll be sure to put together at least a video on each types of animal I trap. Thanks for watching. Have a great day
Great video. Very informative and enjoyable to watch.
Thanks it’s been a great trapping season. Hope you like the videos that are coming.
Looking good, thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks no problem, I have a moose hunting video from last fall coming up soon
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Do you hunt bears?
@@BowhuntingRoad yeah there are always black bear around. There is a short on the channel from last august of a good size bear I stretched and boarded rug style. I’ll get a few calls every summer that there is a bear around the village and I’ll jump on my ATV and try to track it down or push it out of town. Back in 2019 I shot a bear a hundred yards behind my house. There was a handful of us pushing the bear out and I was able to get a perfect heart shot with me AR
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 My youtube channel is a lot about bear hunting. Always wanted to hunt bears in Alaska, thought maybe you would want to do something with me to help your channel grow. I have 30,000 subscribers. Maybe a collaboration of some sort.

Enjoy your videos we only have a few wolverine in are area down here in southeast Alaska im going to try for them next season
👍Glad you liked the video! Get some 330 conibears and watch some videos. Also find out what they are eating in your area and use that for bait
Ty im not sure what they eat we have very few not sure if they eat deer, Ptarmigan ,Grouse or whatever they can catch im sure
@@shaneseaford4824 yeah most likely those animals. I tried different baits and lures but the best for me is plain red meat, moose/caribou/lynx. The bigger the chunk of meat the lower the refusal rate has been for my sets. Up to a point though, I wouldn’t use a chunk bigger than half of a 2 litter soda bottle or it might go to waste
I love the education you give and I really appreciate your videos! Thank you!

I checked my traps today and caught two culprits but it looks like there is still at least one more. But yeah I added a few more. Thanks for watching👍
Good stuff
Jeff from PA here, Does anyone else trap in your area??
There are a couple but they have their spots. By that I mean they don’t really run a line but they’ll have a couple set locations that pay off so year after year they keep them up. But when I was a kid in the 90s is felt like every trail leading away from the village had a different guy trapping it. I’m related to most of the guys that trapped here so when I started trapping again I was able to absorb a good amount of area
You’re knowledge of animal behavior and how to condition your trapping / snaring zones accordingly, is outstandingly. Very interesting to listen to you strategizing on the line.
Thanks. Observing missed catches and being outsmarted by animals also seeing what works has helped put together a guideline in my thought process that has worked well for me. I would never say I understand everything because any time you think you know what an animal is thinking you’ll bump into one that follows none of the rules and leaves you puzzled. Thanks for commenting it’s much appreciated. I’m happy to share what I know.
Congrats on the catches. Stay safe and keep catching.
Thanks. Will do. I’m heading back out on the line today so we’ll see what else we caught. Have a good one
What do you trap them for ? Their fur ?
Yeah for the fur but mostly to carry on my peoples culture and tradition that has been alive for tens of thousands of years. There really is not much if any money in it anymore which is a shame because it is more of a renewable product than anything made from petroleum products like polyester and nylon. Thanks for asking
How heavy was ur wolverine?
This one was right around d 30lbs. It was a large wolverine but wasn’t a hugely heavy one. Thanks for watching
