Most amazing fictional character ever made.
most overrated character ever
ТурбоТОП What do you mean
ТурбоТОП take that back
ТурбоТОП your Mum is overrated
Alexander D'Arbost agreed
They need to make a show about rust when he was an undercover narco
This is a very great idea
As much as i would love to see it, Rust’s character arc is perfect as is & doesnt require further explanation. Some things are better left unsaid.
@@Raiikooo5 Do we have to see it? cant it be going on in the next room or something? so acidic...cant watch....😢
@@BEATmyguest31 I get what you're saying but I need more true detective season 1 , if they did it right it could be amazing
Yeah! That would be a great True Detective season!
Instead of S2 being trash. S3 being a way to much S1. I would check out the season of Rust, under cover as Narco cop.
This character changed my way of thinking about life.

I don't think they can ever replicate the quality of the first season of True Detective.
The writing, the aura of the story and the quality of the acting was pure class.
Not to mention one of the greatest single shots in tv history

@RolnesC Wow, he got the Oscar for his main role in Dallas Buyers Club and I´m sure EVERYBODY involved supported that decision.

Simply the greatest television programme of all time.

Rust Cohle, is by far...the greatest character EVER in television history. A depressed, intelligent and pessimistic hero. He is US!
Polo22546 love this
In the end he saw the light though.
He is more RUS then US. US is sheriff delassy and the governor ans marty ffs.

@@scholli99 Don Draper > Rust Cohle. Rust doesn't rank in the icon canon, but great character? Indeedly doo.

I have seen breaking bad, game of thrones and more iconic shows but rust is my number 1 character ever...season 01 of true detective is the only season that can compete with last season of breaking bad. Thank you for this tribute video, i cant even count how many times i have seen this.
Last season of Breaking Bad is a disappointment. Too much contrived story, plot inconvenience, character butchery, and kind of a forced ending. It's still good but season 4 was better. And TD season 1 was miles superior. It should have won the Emmy.
You watched The Wire?

I think of the hubris that it takes
To yank a soul out of non-existence
The last scene in which he remembers his dead daughter and father was so heart touching and unexplainable trauma. It shows even the most pessimistic, emotional less human being can broke down in tears while remembering the past.
Absolutely
The beauty is despite the darkness, at the end Rust sees the light.
But his outlook on life remained the same. In fact, death was never his concern. And the first light he found was near death. Which confirms his pessimistic view of life itself.
I think that he sees the light al the time, he sees it... but the light never looks back at him. I think that finally, in the end, the light accepted him... the light saw him.
@@Igor-my6ml He didn't believe in an afterlife. He said that narrative consistently throughout the season. In the end his way of belief changed, he felt that light and warmth.
@@PowerfullMG Huh. Well I guess that is one way of looking at it
@@Igor-my6ml his view didn't remain the same. People focus a lot on the spiritual/religious meaning of the ending in terms of the afterlife. I've always found more interesting how he's acknowledging he sees a meaning in life, while being alive, that it's worth to keep fighting. That challenges the pessimistic nihilistic philosophy he insists he believes in throughout the series, that life has no meaning, that it's not worth it. Another cool way to look at it I think, is that this is not a radical change but that he actually never fully believed his own philosophy, but that at least part of it was a coping mechanism. To convince himself his daughter was better off dead he needed to believe that there's no point in life. But his actions prove that he always cared, despite what he said.
The beauty in this video is your editing. You put together a perfect story.
I've watched this at least 50 times
Very well written character. The part where he explains the fourth dimension using Carl Sagan’s analogy of the Apple to the detectives is very satisfying.
I hate..how it’s bad, to relate to a character like rust, like..if you take the time to understand him and look deep into your self..we’re a little like rust.
This is only. the greatest masterpiese that was created on television by far .
Best tv show ever in my opinion . Also it occurred to me that Rust got barbiturates for sleep - this helped him take all that meth and coke with the bikers . He probably used them to sleep after and go to work the next day ... damn
The greatest show...the greatest character...the bloody greatest actor ever ...and I can fuckkkkiiiinnnnggggg argue against all else's named all else........DAMNNNNNNNN

Agreed. Alfie solomons is a pretty sweet character too in peaky blinders played by Tom Hardy.
Certainly doesn't compare to rust and his lines but he has a really good scene when he fights with Thomas Shelby and killing for an honorable reason

Yeah one of the greatest tv shows ever made.
My question is from 1995 to 2012. Why did he never get any "props". Even the two black cops thank the other cop in the hospital. He never gets thanked for nothing. Yet he did and solved everything. He went in to a ghetto almost getting killed for "Ginger", he saved his partner from going to jail, he solved the whole fkn case and the black cops thank his "partner" for what? Calling them after he did all the work for years! Lost his job as a cop because he knew. Never gave up.
Not one "Thank you".
Thank you for solving the worst child molesting serial killer ring in the south east USA. Active for over 50 years, past on by grand parents to parents and to children.

RUST COHLE=THE GOAT
This show is a master class in all areas of filmmaking. So glad I got to watch this as it aired. Amazing experience. Because that’s what this season is, an experience.
The only bad thing about this season of True Detective is that it had to go up against Breaking Bad season 5 at the Emmy. 2014 was a great year.
might be the best show ever made...
I think it is
It's almost 6 years since the first season aired and yet I can't get it out of my head.
They should probably put a warning before the first episode that says "Warning. This show can and will turn your brain upside down"
MCP/ChronicBuzz exactly. Not saying it fucked me up in my head or something but really gave me some ability to have a clearer perspective over will, cause and effect and time and stuff like that.
Best fucking acting ever.
In my opinion the most legendary fictional character ever made and to me the saddest story as well.
Not sad if you realize his darkness led him to Errol Childress & Carcosa and he got the vindication he wanted after killing Dewall years earlier. He also ends noticing "light is winning."

Honestly, everyone is praising Matthew's acting but I think Woody's character was way harder to portray. Yes Rust was a cooler character and very interesting but Woody's character was harder to act as. Way more expressions needed and I think Woody was more oscar worthy.
Rust Cohle really opened up my eyes to this world around us. It's a fucked up place. People say I'm losing myself, but I say the world lost itself a long time ago. Yeah Rust may not be the best role model, but he committed to something and saw it all the way through. Cheers people, don't ever overlook the truth, even if it's hard to see.
Darius 😂👍
Life is about balance. You get the good and the bad. Keep your eyes open, but don't let your negativity ruin your perception of reality. Without the darkness you would never truly appreciate the light. Most importantly don't dwell in your pit of despair. "Laugh and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone".
He didn't open my eyes. I lived in a fucked up place all my life so I just found a character I could relate to. He saw corruption and shittiness of humanity the same way I do.

One night in long bygone times, man awoke and saw himself.
He saw that he was naked under cosmos, homeless in his own body. All things dissolved before his testing thought, wonder above wonder, horror above horror unfolded in his mind.
Then woman too awoke and said it was time to go and slay. And he fetched his bow and arrow, a fruit of the marriage of spirit and hand, and went outside beneath the stars. But as the beasts arrived at their waterholes where he expected them of habit, he felt no more the tiger’s bound in his blood, but a great psalm about the brotherhood of suffering between everything alive.
That day he did not return with prey, and when they found him by the next new moon, he was sitting dead by the waterhole.

After a year from watching still this character and scenario fascinates me.It's like a real recorded investigation and as if matthew mccoughney is a cop and they recorded until the catch.it's like mathew doesnt play Rust Cohle, he is the character itself.
They should make a show on rust , how he became like this. His beginning..before investigation of that case
Season 1 was genius film making. One of the TV's all time great series. Just a shame that 2 and 3 were so bad....

Rust Cohle is a character I want to hug and protect at all cost.
Excellent editing....I had a army buddy who was exactly like Cohle. He did two tours in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan. He retired, drifted in an out of my life and his family's life. He's like a ghost, drinking himself to death.

Idc what anyone says, he should have won an Emmy for this! 🤦♂️ the list that year was stacked but none of them came close to his performance on here. 👌
The split nod between he & Harrelson bammed him (*but YES, HE WAS THE BEST EMMY DRAMA ACTOR NOT JUST THAT YEAR/SEASON/SHOW Etc. But FUCKING EVER!!!)...
fiction and reality... There's a fine line, all depends on perceptions I guess. I would call Mr Cohle a realist for sure. The obstacles, the trials that we go through in life are sent to test us.. How we deal with those trials, tests are what plays part in defining our outlook. Being a realist can be viewed as being harsh. A realist in my belief is being woke. Life ain't all sugar n sweet. It can be but, to appreciate that, you have to, learn from the sour n salty times that you will go through. Such a great character.. Good ole Rusty Cohle 👍
